Help - Electric Co wants to take my property for a hi power line

Last month we were notified that PPL (Pennsylvania Power and Light) has plotted 3 routes for a planned high power transmission line running from Berwick, PA to Roseland, New Jersey. One of the routes would cut our property in half and be within 700' of our home, they would take a 200' right of way, cut down all the trees, lay a gravel road for maintainence, and offer us some compensation.

We are just sick over the thought of this. We saved for years and did without in order to purchase land in the mountains and build a vacation/retirement home.We even placed a conservation easement on it so that it couldn't be developed.

They told us at the meeting that they would use current market values to determine the amount of compensation. However they only compensate for the 200' wide by 1200' foot long right of way. They don't consider the fact that the entire property is devalued because of the transmission lines and 1 or 2 towers that would be installed.

There are 3 routes and Plan A - the one throught my property is the shortest.

We've been attending meetings, writing letters, hanging signs, calling neighbors, consulting with lawyers, filing protests with the Public Utility Commission, and telling PPL that we will never willinging give them a right of way. We've called all the government authorities we can think of. Unfortunately PPL can always condemn it and take it anyway.

I have been considering a consultation with a witch doctor, making voodoo dolls, muttering evil curses under my breath, calling on all the mutant, horrid creatures of folklore and I'm even wondering if The Ghostbusters might help.

We've searched our land high and low looking for the endangered spotted, polkadotted, tree frog eating

wooly humming spider - but no luck. Haven't found 1 single threatened or endangered species.

Oh - the irony of it all is that PPL isn't even our electric company. We are so close to the Delaware River and New York that we are serviced by Orange & Rockland in NY state.

Does anyone have any other suggestions I might try?
