Leslie, your in looking in my field here. In home living assistant agencies charge $13.00 - $25.00 per hour but pay the employees ( not skilled NR or LPN) between $8.00 to $10.00 per hour. If she already has private pay clients she should charge the average agency rate in her area. Just call a few agencies in town to see what they are charging. Most States require you to be med certified if you are going to set up meds. She will also need to look into what is required in her state as to what kind of insurance she would need to carry to be a private provider. Have her check into the local Medicaid office and see what they are paying (then she would not need insurance). She could pick up 1 or 2 regular clients that she could work around her schedule.

I did that course Leslie. It was tough! 25 1/2 credit hours the first quarter. All I did was study. I'll give some thought to ideas for some income. Home health is a nice area, not so stressful, yet it can be consuming depending on the client. As an LPN my last job in personal care was about $25 per hour. I knew the lady already (took care of her sweet dh years earlier) and almost felt bad her family was paying so well for someone I loved. A great job.
A good reason for your dd to complete this corse is the great need for nurses in all areas. Great pay for lousy hours, Good pay for regular hours. Lots of jobs to pick from in your area too.

If she is not certified as a CNA or CMA ,I'm not sure what she should charge but it should relfect her duties. Showers, home upkeep, shopping, personal cares there are so many things she might be doing. She might check into a local homecare office to see if they can use her services.
They will take care of all the paperwork and taxes.
I'm sure there are easier ways to take in a salary but the legal aspects make me nervous, especially when taking care of someone who's family is um, sue happy. She would REALLY have to know what she is getting into.

Would she be able to do some dog/cat sitting? or Garden watering for people on vacation? I'm thinking!

She is a certified CNA and CMA. She can pass meds. She was the top student in her class while she was going. She'll be starting over on the quarter she was on in August sometime.
Toni, I know what your saying about people being sue happy. That's what makes me nervous too.

Any more suggestions now that the weekends over and there's more traffic here?

My MIL did this type of work for years. She really loved it and was employed as much, or as little, as she wished. She had some "clients" she stayed with 2-3 times a week for two or more years.

If you DD is in school for nursing, and loves helping people, I'd say go for it.

I think my MIL was getting $15 an hour; I'm not sure. She did only light care. She sometimes helped with bathing and personal care, fixed meals and helped them eat, fetched and carried, read to and visit with the people, and basically gave their family caregivers a "break".

Sometimes she simply "sat" with patients at night while they were in the hospital. That ensured they had help if they needed it, someone to summons medical staff, and extra cleaning in the room.

The state of the last hospital room I saw was horrible. No wonder folks get infections and die. The room was filthy.

If she is afraid of getting sued, she could work for an agency. I worked for one about 25 years ago as a CNA. I did live-in work for awhile and then did just weekends and/or nights. They can find something that will fit her needs. At that time the agency charged the patients $20. an hour and I got half of that... I'm sure it is more now.

Leslie, I agree with Lydia, joining an agency is the best way to go. Your daughter has the skills and they will be glad to have her.
