I enjoy frozen yogurt and especially salted caramel from Yogurt Twist.

Some of the Greek yogurt varieties are much more palatable. But I must admit I have not carefully compared the nutritional/calorie information of them next to, say, Yoplait, which I have had before (and still occasionally do -- the blueberry and key lime, especially).

The F-A-G-O (adding the hyphens cuz Garden Web frequently bans the word otherwise because of the first 3 letters) has a variety with honey, and that's really, really good -- doesn't taste like the original yogurts, like Dannon.

Greek-style yogurts are thicker and have less tang (and more protein) because more of the whey/water has been removed. Chobani is a popular brand of Greek yogurt, and lately I've been enjoying several store brands that compare to it. I like Dannon's Greek line, and also Olympia. Or is it Olympus? Probably not, as Olympus is my camera. :-)

Your comment about the tang brought to mind an experience with my father this past winter. He was in the hospital recovering from surgery and still on a bland diet. A nurse asked if he would like some yogurt and he said yes thinking she meant frozen yogurt. The look on his face when he tasted that first spoonful was priceless...LOL.

I don't like yogurt either, although I buy from one to four quarts a day, depending on how many possums I am raising...it is an essential part of their diet here. However, since I am trying to lose weight, I have started eating it for breakfast. One of those little cups of Yoplait or even the store brand...I usually get strawberry...and I mix it with some Grapenuts (don't particularly like those either) and often add a half of banana and a few walnuts. That makes it almost edible to me. I don't like sugar free...and neither do the possums.

I'm a big fan of the Greek yogurts. Fage (pronounced fa-ye) is my favorite. Love the texture, even in the 0% fat variety. If you object to the tanginess, try adding a little bit of honey. It adds calories, but it may calm it down for you. Had a wonderful dessert in Greece...full-fat yogurt, honey and walnuts.

The only yogurt I like is vanilla. I don't like the fruit on the bottom ones. I can only imagine the sugar content though. I'm sure any health benefits are long gone.

I've seen the Greek style. I'd like to find one that's not as pricey.

I like the yoplait including the whips which is not like yogurt so you might try one.
I also have one of the Greek brands I like the flavor is a honey based, I get it at Kroger. I tried one of the name brand Greek ones and thought it was horrible, threw it away.

I'm surprised we don't have more yogurt fans here--or at least they haven't spoken up. At home I hang with big yogurt consumers. We don't consider Yoplait to be yogurt, by the way. LOL

I love full-fat yogurt but eat only fat-free these days. Years ago I made both kinds in an laboratory incubator we used for that purpose.

Now I'm hungry for yogurt, and I ate the last of it yesterday.

Take plain greek yogurt (I also like Fage) slice in some bananas and sprinkle a little bit of table sugar over and mix. Tastes like sour cream instead of yogurt! But much healthier.

The only healthy yogurt is plain non fat Greek yogurt.

All the rest are nothing more than snack foods. You may as well just eat ice cream. I just took DH off of yogurt in his lunches because he only likes the sweet Yoplait variety.

My friend took a nutrition class offered for her health issues and one of the first things the dietician said was to stop eating yogurt unless you like it plain.

Some yogurts can be good for you but there are thousands of other foods a that are good for you too. No reason to eat something you dislike.

My husband brought home Dannon for the possums tonight. I have never fed it before...so never tasted it myself. I really don't like that one...and the possums weren't crazy about it either. It was also kind of sour tasting and light in color compared to what they usually eat. Snack food or not, they eat it every day. I tried to eat yogurt because I don't eat dairy. I don't drink milk and don't eat very much cheese or other dairy products, although I do cook with it.

I only eat plain. I don't like the flavored/sweetened ones. So I'm not much help (um, no help!) to you, salgal.

I eat plain yogurt (Greek), mix in some raw oats (uncooked oatmeal), and usually some fruit - blueberries, cantalope, etc. Oh my - bliss!

Hounds: Thanks for correcting my spelling! I dunno how I typed Fago -- maybe my mind was combining the yogurt spelling with the Faygo soda!

Another yogurt question for you folks: How do you know if it's gone bad in the fridge? I mean, except for noticing that the stamped expiration date has passed! (Cuz I have been told that the expiration dates don't always reflect reality)

I eat a cup of the Fage 0% daily as a mid-morning snack. Love the stuff! I add fresh berries. All natural with no additives, probiotic, full of protein, low carb and low sugar.

I am also a fan of Fage 0 fat type.Usually have it with blueberries, raspberries, sprinkle of Truvia and there you hav a wonderful meal or snack.

The only kind I like is Chobani lowfat, vanilla yogurt. I usually add a little granola or some chopped walnuts.

It takes four times as much milk to produce greek Yogurt as "regular". That's why it's so creamy...

Like others said...no sense in forcing it. I just wanted to like it so I could have an easy healthy snack.

I buy the Wal-mart brand, but the light kind. it has about 14g of sugar. the regular has over 30.

That's what my dr. said to eat, the light, reduced sugar kind. Even though it still has sugar in it, she said the other benefits make it worth it. Highly recommended for people with high cholesterol.

I like Fage 2%. I do like the tang, and I never, ever, sweeten yogurt.

But, really, Salgal, if you don't like tang, then you don't like yogurt. Even sweetened, yogurt has tang. Why try to force it?

I love Vanilla Yogurt, but only that flavor. Probaby my favorite is Trader Joe's. The reason I eat yogurt at all is because of the "tang". Ice Cream is usually too sickening sweet to me, whereas Vanilla Yogurt is both a little sweet & a little tart. Don't really care how healthy or not it is.

I always keep Yoplait non-fat Lemon Cream Pie in my fridge for snacks.
I use non-fat plain Greek yogurt to make smoothies. I add frozen fruit and vanilla silk soy milk. Yummy and so good for you. Dannon Oikos is what I buy.
Finn loves plain Greek yogurt.

Smudge can smell the yogurt container being opened from the other end of the apartment and next thing you know he's at your feet, staring you down. He likes vanilla.

I buy Greek Yogurt because I like the thicker consistency....I do buy the Great Value fat free variety too. I like it with cereal for a snack....

I like to buy the greek and then flavor it myself....

After reading the comments about Fage yogurt, I bought a big container yesterday. I agree--it's delicious! Thanks for the recommendation. I think they could have chosen a more appealing name, though. :-)

PS: Salgal, the honey variety would have been the last kind I'd recommend to you. I don't even like it much myself, although I know it has its fans. If you're tempted to try another Chobani, try one of these: peach, cherry, strawberry, raspberry. I like all of them.

Sometimes I get plain yogurt(a quart of non-fat or low-fat), put it in a strainer lined with a layer of cheesecloth, place the strainer over a bowl, cover the yogurt with plastic wrap and put it in the refrigerator for 2 or 3 hours. The liquid drains out of the yogurt into the bowl and you have regular yogurt that is more like the Greek yogurt - for a lot less money. I do like the Fage, but it is more expensive.

Every day for breakfast I eat non fat plain greek yogurt with fresh fruit mixed into it. It's not very sweet but sometimes I'll mix in a little natural sweetner (stevia) if I'm really craving some sweetness.

Jasdip, Finn is my pretend grandson who is 21 months. Sorry, I should have noted that. One of my cats will eat just about anything, but she has not discovered the Greek yogurt.
