I ran 5.5 mi this morning in the Garden of the Gods park...it's all red rocks....

5.5!! Wow, Nicole. Garden of the Gods, where is that? I just visited Arches National Park, and it looks like your (fantastic) photo.

I walked 1/2 hr. this morning and then came home and did a little gardening.

Fun pics and updates, thanks for sharing them! Good to hear most of us have the same general approach of withdrawing water at this time of year. I really think it helps. Pagan, feel free to use the pic of 'Kimo'. I've seen decent sized specimens at Lowes and Home Depot all summer, so they may still have some left before all of the Christmas Stuff moves in. Let us know if/when/where you find some. euqruob, it really WAS a banner year for plumies, wasn't it? All of mine grew and bloomed a ton. My very favorite is still 'Celandine' for those huge, extremely fragrant, sun resistant blooms. It could possibly be my favorite floral scent of ANY variety of ANY flower. Yes, I love it that much. Anyway, definitely a banner year for them. PhxLynne your Singapore Pink is really nice! Keep us posted on how it does for you. I have 'Divine' which is a true dwarf too and it has done really well, with lots of low branches. Great fun. I love yours and its bed and patio--lookin' good! Will you still water those petunias underneath in winter? wrcaz, I'm sure others have ideas and notions too, but here's my general approach. I use regular potting soil soil for pots (either "Miracle-Gro potting soil" (without any water-retaining crystals) or Pro-mix). I put an inch of pumice or perlite in the bottom of the pot to ensure good drainage. In the ground, I add enough compost to have about a 50% compost/50% native soil mix and I plant away. All of mine in the ground and in pots very very much benefit from afternoon shade in summer; otherwise their leaves scorch in summer. Planting them on the east side of a building or wall or shade-giving plant or structure really helps. Mine get watered three times a week late spring through last week. They'll get no water now until they re-leaf in late spring, and when they DO leaf out, I'll only water them once a week or ten days until it is HOT. I slop water-dissolved tomato fertilizer on them every two weeks and water dissolved bloom boost fertilizer on them once or twice a month. Spring is definitely the best time of year to buy/plant them, but if you can find one now and keep it try for winter it could be worth a try. Keep us posted! Happy gardening all, Grant

Oxygen equipment arrived at 7:15 AM! My tenacity worked! Got it set up very quickly so batteries could charge - takes 3 hrs for small one and 5 hrs for big one. I had my maiden voyage to the hairdresser and then on for a mani/pedi. Getting in and out of the car with this thing and a handbag took some doing but I'm sure I'll eventually figure out a system. I'm a bit of a klutz. Made it through Whole Foods, too. Battery has great life for such a small machine. What was interesting was how I was treated at the nail salon. All the techs are Vietnamese and I've been coming here regularly for about 3 years. My favorite girl left so I'm still trying out others - new one today -a young man. He asked me who drove me to the mall and did they know when to pick me up? Huh? Then, when I moved from pedi chair (I was already in it when he came out from back to help me), he asked if I could walk unassisted! I can drive, I can walk, I can talk, I just don't breathe so well! BTW, I think that some of the companies I spoke with sold my name immediately as I've had multiple phone calls yesterday and today from hearing aid companies and two wanting to sell me walkin bathtubs! First of all, I'm on a no-call list (which now appears to be a "suggestion") and I can still quite easily get in and out if a tub, which I prefer to a shower. I hate so much that those of us who are old are targeted for pitches that promise us our independence and freedom. (And to avoid the dreaded nursing home) if we just give them a ton of money for " health aides". It must work or they wouldn't do it. I'm sure I'll next get a call offering me a lift chair! I'm 73, not 93 and I do resistance training twice a week as well as exercise 3 times a week at rehab! Needless to say, one of my favorite poems is Dylan Thomas' "Do not go gentle into that good night...".

So here's one not involving me but husband and grandson. GS was over this afternoon helping clear show. Tonight husband and I were at our large mega grocery store . I was somewhere else in the store. Kid walks by and husband looks at him and neither says anything. Both thought it was their relative but then husband said he didn't say anything. And grandson said I was sure it was him but he didn't speak so... Both, of course, we're masked up to their eyes. I told my daughter it was dumb and dumber...

I made a beaded mobile today, my second attempt for our backyard. It isn’t my normal style … I like a more organic, earthy style with painted wood beads, warm metals, and such, but they didn’t survive the brutal Texas sun last summer. Hopefully this one will. There's no water class on Tues, Thurs, or Sunday. I did put some stuff in the attic, mop and scrub on my hands and knees, cleaned 2 bathrooms and scrubbed the shower (one more bathroom still to go), and ironed shirts. I did work up a sweat doing all that, but its not the same as going to the gym. I'm going to walk Sparky in a minute or two.

Our instructor didn't show today. Weather was cloudy and cooler and a little rain here and there. Wasn't swimming weather.

socks12345 & glenda_al...thanks! Dh's photo. We live about 2 miles from this HUGE red rock/red dirt park here in Colorado. There are rocks with holes in them, a balanced rock....:0) It's got it all....:0)

Glenda, I was talking with a woman who is about 80 who does water aerobics 3 days a week at the indoor pool in her retirement facility. The class is at 7 a.m. I can't imagine being in the water at that hour. I am not even up at that hour.

I did do water, last Saturday, cause instructor is fabulous, at 8:30. That is early for me, but I love this instructor.

9:30 weekdays is just perfect for me

Nicole, I love going to Garden of the Gods. It's such a beautiful place. Have you ever been to Red Rocks? Is there a lot to see there?

lattefairy.....you mean Red Rocks open space? Kenmuir quarry? I live right next to it. :0) It's gorgeous also!!! It backs section 16 open space and the Paul Inteman memorial trail is behind it. Bach put in man made lakes by his house. Ducks, birds,wildlife and wild flowers abound. If you ever want to go hiking, let me know....:0)

Hi Nicole!
I am not sure if it's Kenmuir Quarry or the Red Rocks amphitheater. Last week, as I was driving south to Conifer, I passed a sign that said 'Red Rocks'. Looked to the right and was able to see some red rock formations similar to Garden of the Gods. But i couldn't see any farther, so I am not sure what I saw there. I didn't even know it was on the way to Conifer either. Is that the sign for the Amphiteater or the quarry? Sounds like a fun place to visit! :)
