Actually its 14 Zucchini plants. The reason I planted so many is that with my terrible clay soil on a hillside I usually am lucky to get even one Zucchini from a plant. But now that I can water them without the water all running downhill they can finally grow properly. You don't know what a pleasure it would be to have even 200 square feet of flat ground to work with. I have no level areas on my property. I also dug the planting holes much bigger this year, about a foot and a half square and about 9 inches deep and mixed in a lot of steer manure and shredded wood with the clay to break it up. I have given up trying to amend the whole garden. Over the course of the last 10 years I must have put in over a thousand dollars worth of compost, mulch, steer manure, and gypsum into the 40 by 50 foot garden area, and a year later it all disappears and goes right back to pure clay. So now I only amend the exact spot I am going to plant something in. Well with the zucchinis growing so well this year maybe I will rip half of them out and plant something else in their place. I also planted 29 tomato plants this year. Usually I have to plant about 31 to barely get enough tomatoes to eat because they produce so poorly or get diseased. Another factor may be this year I already pulled over 11,000 weeds (I counted) from around the plants instead of letting them take over. My soil is infested with weed seeds from the supposedly weed free compost and mulch I put on it. Don't believe them when they say weed free.

Murky, I will briefly respond to some of your questions, "If Colt is so terrible, why is it still being propagated? Is the toleration of wet/heavy soils really its only redeeming quality? " I don't why certain commercial producers still use it. One of my commercial suppliers stopped growing Colt rootstock altogether due to the suceptibilty of crown gall. In my area, that is about the only redeeming quality. It does produce sooner than Mazzard, but then the fruit isn't as good. " I didn't quite follow what you were saying about its supposedly being "semi-dwarf" but even then showing unreliable. Are you saying that it doesn't dwarf reliably? Or that it doesn't provide some other characteristic associated with dwarfing like precocity or regularity in producing a crop or something? " Yes, Colt has been tested extensively in Calfornia and tests have shown Colt sometimes does not dwarf at all and can grow as large as a Mazzard tree. I apologize if my questions come accross as dense. I'm pretty inexperienced and often don't fully grasp the terminology used in describing fruit raising. "For instance, when you say "poor quality fruit" is that a general term that takes into account all desirable characteristics of fruit such as flavor, sugar content, size, coloration, texture, firmness, flesh/pit ratio, insect/disease damage, etc? Or is that term "fruit quality" specific to certain attributes? " What I have found in Colt trees I have is that Colt can produce light crops. I also see undersized fruit. In commercial farming undersized fruit fetches a much lower price. I have acquaintances who grow large acreages of cherries in Central California who use both Colt and Mahaleb. The Mahaleb trees produce good fruit and perform well and the Colt trees have underperformed. My cherry orchard is planted in Mazzard. I have experimented with a few rootstocks. I planted Bings on Mahaleb, Colt, Gisela 5, & Gisela 6. Out of those, Colt has been the worst performer.

Ah thank you ^u^ There are several plants in one big bowl, with plenty of stones in the bottom for drainage. I did wonder if the soil might be causing a issue, Ill need too look into that, all i know is it's cactus soil and it was doing ok before but I think its causing a issue with all of them actually s: i will defiantly look into that, thank you. Light i think was the problem for where I got it, as it was on a middle shelf behind several other plants, but has been moved slowly into the light of a window(south facing). I am defiantly going to look into the soil though, and perhaps checks the stone sin the bottom in case they've clumped up in some places s: Thank you ever so much

How many perennials do you want..lol I have 2 daughters and a niece that would love one for christmas (they collect hinged boxes) I could send you a large box full of 3 -5 yr old perennials I have daylilies, tiger lilies, asters(dwarf)poenies, Iris's, tons of hosta,scabiosa,rhudbeckia,rhubarb,gladiola bulbs-mixed colors,hens&chicks,I think some sedums..just ask I may have what your looking for. cynthia
