Great idea!

That is a great idea. My husband takes several prescriptions and while I remember the name, I don't always remember the dose. So I had the pharmacy give me a print out showing everything and I keep that with me. But this might be easier. Now all I have to do is dig out the owner's manual and figure out the recording function -- or better yet wait until my son or daughter shows up and have them show me.

yrs ago we got a meds & vitals card for our wallets from our internist. i also have the info on my work blackberry, since i'm on call 24/7 i always have that w/ me :-/ my DH, who is a full time college student (MS degree) was treated recently at the university health center for a back problem (ruptured disk in his back) and they pulled up all of his medical info electronically from FL hospital, everything he's ever been treated for w/ x-rays, scans & tests included. nice to know that's possible ~ liz

I have meds records in my cell phone, but I also used this website to print out a free card that I laminated and keep in the same slot as my health insurance card

Wonderful tip=any time I go to a new doctor, they ask what meds I take. There are ten of them, no way I could remember everything, so I wrote them on an index card and keep it in my purse.

Everytime I go to the doctor's office they have you bring in all of your medications, they don't want a list. I don't agree with it as it is a hassle.

My husband had a stroke two years ago and ended up taking seven different meds. He can't remember them other than describing "color". He keeps the pharmacy print-out in his wallet. I've added to it the frequency as some are twice a day or two pills at once. Also the info can be obtained by accessing the medical alert bracelet he wears. Having said that - I've worked for five years in an emergency and never once did we call them. It could have been because it was a pediatric setting and the parents were present.

When you go for tests or even to dentists, mention all medications but also other things you take.
Lots take health food items that can react to certain medications. That is very important to mention that.

I even add vitamins too.

Lots of good ideas in this thread. Although most may know this by now, it bears repeating........Put ICE in your listings in your phone. It may come in handy for someone to call your SO if you are unconscious. 'Ya never know. Or even as a number for someone to call if they find your lost cell phone. Whoever you choose as ICE will know how to get ahold of you for the return.

Good information. I printed out a list of the meds from our Express Scripts mail order supplier. It shows the dosage as well as name of meds. I carry it with me as well as keep it displayed on a bulletin board above my computer. I know from experience that if you have an emergency and the life squad comes, they will not give you any meds until they have a list of what you are taking. I learned this the hard way. I also give a copy of this info to the doctors office when filling out medical info and usually they will copy it and use it instead of writing it all down. Saves alot of trouble.

My cellphone already had a option to put in 3 ICE numbers (and I've done that). When my husband was going through Chemo/Radiation and was on so many different kinds of meds. I made list with his name/address/birthdate at the top and the names of the meds and the dosages and printed off several copies which we both kept in out wallets. That way they were always handy if needed. I saved the list on my computer and could update and print when his meds changed.

Good hint.......about 4 times a year, I revise and print out a med list with not only the meds I/ hubby take, doses and how often taken but with the name of the Dr, clinic, hospital, and family contacts, along with the phone # & addresses. We each carry the list in our wallets and there are also lists on our frige in a magnetized folder marked, Emergency Info, for each of us. Dottie

Here is a wonderful site called Vial of Life with free forms and a sticker to print out and fill out for each person in your family. Make copies to keep in a ziplock bag in each of your vehicles,one in your purse and one on your fridge. Add a picture too of the person. If you have a living trust will, keep a copy of that in the envelope too, as hospitals will ask for it.

I have a copy of my medical history and my prescriptions in my file cabinet with my health insurance papers. Whenever I have a medical appointment I take a copy with me- otherwise I'd never remember when I had knee surgery or the date of my last chest XRay etc.

mcmann, you are most welcome. The cell phone storage is a great idea, unless the batteries go dead. Paper copies are better. And people of all ages should have this medical info in their purses, wallets, glove compartment or visor of vehicles, and on the fridge, because if they become unconscious or otherwise unable to speak, the paramedics will have all the info they need.

I keep a record of DH and my histories, meds (name, mgs and number per day), and other info printed on separate neon colored sheets of paper on the fridge. The one time paramedics were called, I just said "its on the fridge" - he couldn't miss it! He and several doctors have commented on the "great idea". We keep one in the car and a miniaturized copy in our wallets.

Date, Name, address, phone; dr's. name and phone; spouse's name; DOB; Insurance and Allergies. Then, in 2 columns are History and Medications.

I update them as needed and run off a copy for each dr. visit. Also took a copy for hospital file when DH was in and out several times last year.

That ICE card is a good idea, but if I had to RETYPE all his meds just for one change, I'd go nuts!! Looks like Vial of Life stores the info. so you can update without retyping everything. That said, it's all on my computer and works for me. Only have 1 Tracfone and no PDA or related gizmos.

I take our copies to doctors with us and let "them" make a copy. You don't need to make copies yourself. They all have copy machines.

Seriously, the object of the neon colored paper is so that it doesn't get lost in the file with all the white paper. Tho, the trend is to paperless files (computerized), so that won't be a problem soon.
