Yep, when in doubt that's what I do. Confirmed as far north as Kentucky here, so probably worth asking the locals about it. An option might be to put the "mama" in the ground and take some cuttings when it has grown enough to give back, best of both. Don't be afraid to cut it back heavily if necessary if you decide to bring in the mama. It will just invigorate it, from what I've experienced chopping at my plant. If your "Bush Daisy" is Euryops, just plant the seeds right away. A lot of warmweather plants have seeds that don't need stratification, or cold tratment, and are best when fresh. As for the Japanese maple, those do need a cold treatment. The seeds can be picked from the tree, but they must be ripe or mature. (Around the end of sept./beginning Oct. here, in New York City area) Once you've picked the seeds, plant them right away. Fresh is better - do not let them dry out. As I said, they need a cold stratification. The easiest way I have found to do this, is to plant them, in flats, or pots, outside, right after harvesting. Cover with screening or mesh, to keep the squirrels, and mice, from digging them up and eating them. They will germinate in the spring.

A few years ago we had the same issue with cultural practices advocated from an obscure extension office in Washington state, an assumption was made that they applied to the whole country which of course is absurd. It is the main reason why I never respond to a thread where the OP is from PNW or West Coast, I know nothing about that part of the country. Gas stations and convenience stores will always use cheap, mass-produced garbage like J.B. I am encouraging posters here to increase their palette of shrub selections and move beyond J.B., a noxious, introduced weed.

Hi everyone, I completely forgot to post photos. Im in graduate school full time and working, and about to graduate all while looking for a job, so my brain has been extremely scattered. Here are photos (excuse the messy mulch I had to do some digging I’m thinking of redoing both areas with natural wood chips next spring), this area is about 22-25 feet long (I did measure I just forget which) and 8 feet wide. The lighter green plant in the middle is a hardy hibiscus. The two dark green plants on either side are JFK roses (because of the angle they look close but they’re further away than they look). I also have a lily turf and sedum tucked into opposite corners. With some small variety Snow Fountain shrubs. Another angle of this garden (bare spot potentially for barberry substitute) On this right side it’s also about 8 feet wide and 15-17 feet long (not including the portion wrapping around the corner). It also has the same pattern of JFK roses, hardy hibiscus, sedum and lily turf and Snow Fountain shrubs. Around the corner my peppermint pop hangs out all alone but there’s not room for friends and it’s doing extremely well.
