I color my own hair every four weeks but my hair grows pretty fast (much to my dismay).

Mine is dark and I color it myself every 5 weeks or so.

That sounds like my hair, dark brunette. I started getting rampantly gray (>50%) about 5 years ago. I also get highlights, so was having to undergo a two step process. I had to go every 6 weeks to keep roots away, highlights were retouched every other visit (12 weeks). But everyone's hair grows at a different rate.

About 6 months ago, decided to quit this because it is expensive and a big swath of my free time on weekends. So the gray is coming in now, and I must say, I am rather happy with it.

Hubby colours mine. I don't have a lot of gray. It's dark brown but I like making the colour more of a reddish/auburn hue. My hair grows fast too. I keep it short and every 6-8 weeks it's too long for me and drives me crazy.

I was coloring my hair every three weeks for a while. My roots were nearly white, so they were very evident.

I stopped coloring about three years ago, and I actually like my naturally silver hair now.

I go every 7 weeks, color and cut - hair is short and colored ash blonde, so the white roots don't show up much.

I think my hair grows faster in summer. I seem to go for color and cut every five weeks. In winter, I can stretch it to every six weeks.

My original color was very dark brown, a nice contrast with fair skin when I was young, but now auburn is more flattering. I only wish my grey was a nice silvery shade, but it is *grey* -- and I have a swath of the original dark brown right in front that has never lost its color.

My hair is mostly white now and I stopped colouring it years ago. I noticed that when I coloured it, I didn't get seniors discounts but when I leave it natural I get discounts even though I haven't actually reached 65 yet. It is just assumed that I am a senior. ;-) Mind you many days I feel like a senior!

I used to color mine a blonde/ash but the kids kept saying let it grow out. I did and now it is quite attractive (if I do say so myself) Funny thing tho, when I look into my (magic) mirror when doing my hair...it looks more blonde than anything..... In photo's it looks just like everyone else...pretty white. Nanny

Mine isn't colored anymore

My natural color was a light brown ugly color. I used the cap to add blonde highlights for years, then the grey came. Now I have it done. She colors the grey roots light brown and foils the ends with blonde color all at the same time. I have it done once a month. Never, never will I go grey. My opinion is that people with olive skin and dark hair look great with grey hair, others not so much.

My natural hair color used to be the most beautiful shade of auburn. I loved it. Never wanted to do a thing to it. I still think of my self as a redhead. Always will I imagine, but it's really dark brown now. Guess it's because in the last four years my hubby took over mowing so without the sun it's darkened. It's a beautiful brunette, but not me. For my age, 54, I really don't have much gray/white hair, but enough that I'd probably have to dye it too often so I've never done so. I'm just too much of a naturalist to dye it. I tried a henna product in auburn, but I think with as dark as my hair is now I need to use a redder version in order to get my once natural shade of auburn.
Sorry, that seems more like rambling than answering the OPs question. Guess what I was trying to say was I'd rather not dye my hair at all if I had to do it so often to keep the roots at bay.

I used to be a blonde. Retouching involved double-process every 8 weeks. I really stretched it. Showed roots after 4 weeks. I hated siting in the colorist chair. The chemicals burned my scalp. Gave it up, let my natural brown grow in and I'm much happier. I now get highlights every 3 months because I have some gray and they help blend it all in.

I go every 5 weeks. I use Nice and Easy Root touch-up mid way. My hair is long and center parted so the roots show up more quickly than if it was short and layered.

Its medium/golden to light brown with lots of highlights. The color of the highlights changes according to whim.
