Banjo my big baby (horse)

He is doing great. Way too fat, but since he is still growing, I am not muzzling him. Wait until next year though!

This is him in his harness. Still haven't hitched him to the cart since hubster rolled a mower on top of it (really)

For you that don't know, Banjo was orphaned at 5 weeks old two years ago. He gave me a scare when he wouldn't eat any liquid substitutes for his mamma's milk. He ended up thriving on a pellet made to replace mare's milk in older foals (and a zillion dollars worth of vitamins).

Thanks for asking. He is the love of my life for sure.

First of all, you will get used to the noise. I'd visit Mom in FL whose house was a half mile away from the train tracks and the first day, I'd hear every train, but after that, hardly ever. Second, I think you need to get to know your neighbors...sounds like they are friendly types which is a good thing. I grew up in the country surrounded by lots and lots of land and few children because there were few houses. When I married and moved to an acre lot, it was terrible for awhile....all the traffic, the kids, the dogs, the mowers... Then I got to know my neighbors. And trust me, the chain saw isn't so loud when it's good neighbor Tim doing the sawing and you don't mind asking John if he could not mow on Saturday as you're planning on a memorial service for your Dad with lots of people coming.... And neighbors can be a great help, like when your snow blower breaks or when you need someone to feed the cat. I know our neighbor was glad for us when the house next to her's caught fire and the firemen wouldn't let her go home that night, so she spent the night with us. Every lifestyle has it's plusses and minuses. Change your perspective, seek the good, and then see where you're at. You may be surprised. BTW, we are now back home on 11 acres, but the area is so much more built up than when I was a kid. Even on our 11 acres though, I know when Bill is sawing or Jimmy is running his back hoe or when Norma is out mowing, or when Jessica's kids are playing with their dog. It's comforting.

Lonesome (and his great granddaughter standing behind him) were foaled dark colored and have gotten progressively lighter every year, and now he has little brown dots that are called "flea bitten" but when he was young, he was a dark iron grey with black mane and tail and legs. People would stop to admire him. I will never sell my old horses. They would end up at the slaughter house...so they will be here until they die. If something happened and I could no longer keep them, I would have them put down. They will never leave this place. I have another horse that is 22 and one that is near 30 and one that is 9. They all look good. The secret is to never let them get run down. It can be difficult to put weight on an old horse but not too hard to keep them in good shape, once you get them there.

I thought for sure I commented on this from my cell, but I don't see it now. Maybe I hit the arrow up (seen only on my phone) and thought I'd sent it. I did that a couple other times, but caught myself. Anyway, your brother deserves your bragging, he did an amazing job. Your home was lovely without things hung, but gosh it's amazing now. It doesn't appear as if you've recently moved in.

Fantastic photos, Bob! I especially like the one where they are standing side by side next to the fence. He is a mini-me of his mother right down to the blaze on his face. Even at this young age, one can see the horse he is going to be in a few years. What a little beauty he is. He must be providing lots of entertainment at the farm. Everything is new to him and he has the energy to check it all out. I'll bet he is full of mischief!

Right now I just have a simple metal 2 wheel cart. Hubby was loading a big riding mower and tipped it on top of the cart! We just got it back to normal. We'll see how he does driving (I think he will be wonderful, but he might suprise me) and then splurge on a proper buggy.
