my contact list has been hijacked

I sent my problem to computer forum too.....but you

people are so PRACTICAL. So here goes....people are

getting messages I never sent. When I hit the letter

"m" to send message....contacts come up that I don't

know and are not part of my contact list.

Don't know how to clean it up.

BET SOMEONE HERE CAN HELP......THANKS SO MUCH.

That happened to me. I found out when I started getting messages returned that could not be delivered. Over two days I got 5000 returned messages. I called our cable company with whom we have email too. Never learned how they hijacked my email. And during that time I could not use my email either. I had to hand delete all the undelivered messages.

Gorgeous! They're so adorable when they're little babies like that. I want them all! I am desperately in need of more conifers in my yard. All I have is a mini thuja arborvitae and a second one that is supposed to be a mini but, since buying and moving into this house spring/summer of 2012, has grown by leaps and bounds. It was only slightly larger than its brother, but now is four times the size or so. I definitely am jealous of your "conifer addiction". You should label the pictures with the plant names for people like myself, who, despite hailing from northern Minnesota (the land of conifers) have no idea when it comes to these beautiful plants.

some options to try, I have not used yahoo in years, but these are some things I might try. How to Export Your Yahoo! Mail Address Book Try to do an export of the address book to see if possibly they are there and will export, just save it to your desktop or pc somewhere. another thing to do is in your sent files look there in some of the emails you sent for your addresses in the To field of the emails. Especially any that you might have sent to a large number of your contacts. Contact Yahoo! Mail Support talk to support they may be able to restore it. same directions but with pictures How do I export my Yahoo Mail address book? also you might try searching your pc for an existing "yahoo.csv" file, if you have one open it and look at it that could be one you had saved.

I had that happen to me about a year ago, but there was a way of recovering it. I just don't remember HOW I did it, but look around their mail site. Maybe even ask Google. I was so relieved to get it back. I think someone had hijacked my account because right around the same time all of my contacts got an email from me that I didn't send. Also watch out if you have an Ebay or Paypal account. I had a problem with that at the same time and it took several weeks to get my money back from Paypal.

You picked up a virus somewhere. It copies your address book and then pretends to use that address to send out another ton of spam mail.

So you have a pretty serious virus there somewhere. You might need professional help to clean up your computer. And maybe get a new address.

More likely this is a trojan or something rather than a virus. Not typical virus activity. I assume you're using Microsoft programs for email? You might want to reconsider them if you do since they're such easy pickings for malware.

Do you have a GOOD firewall?
Do you have an antivirus program UPDATED REGULARLY?
Do you run Windows Updates regularly?
Do you have SpywareBlaster installed and UPDATED REGULARLY?
Do you have 2 or 3 programs like Advanced SystemCare, Spybot, SuperAntiSpyare, Malwarebytes, etc, run regularly and UPDATED regularly?
Are you on a wireless network? If so, do you secure it?
Do you let others use your computer?
Do you use an online method of saving your contacts?

Those are places to start.
