Microwave glass plate..mine is broke

We have a microwave that is above the stove. It has had a chip in it since wi moved into this house 8 years ago. The other night my dh asked me how long the plate has been broken. I thought he meant the chip, but now is is broken in half. It is a GE SpaceMaker XL. I looked on-line the other night, but could not find one. Any ideas?

I'd check out Goddwill/charity stores and garage sales. You may find just the plate (without the microwave).

I just put the milk in my coffee mug, microwave that, then pour the coffee into that mug. Repeat as needed. However, if you specifically want a 4 oz. creamer/pitcher, here's a MW-safe one. There's also the classic Apilco cow-shaped creamer. I also think this milk bottle creamer is cute, but it's larger than you want.

At my old house, the MW was located at about eye level for me. It was crazy--I had to use a stepstool to see if things were turning or overcooking. I am 5'2". At my next house I purchased the undercounter Sharp drawer MW which I loved and all the tall people in my family thought was crazy too low. See picture. Our current rental has the MW about neck level and I admit it works great. I use it every day to re-heat my tea/coffee. I actually use it to heat the water too since I can't find my kettle. I used to have a instant hot and got spoiled by that. Here in the rental we use a tempered glass measuring cup and heat 2c of water then use that as a "pot". It kind of takes away from the whole "ceremony" of making tea and enjoying it but we now have simple uses created from necessity. And of course....the old makin' bacon that everyone has mentioned. My son is always making bacon in the MW. I also am a good leftover eater. I love to reheat a serving of spaghetti squash or something from last night's dinner. I don't like cold food, so almost all of my food is heated. I considered putting the MW in the walk-in pantry at the house we are building, but ended up finding a place for it in the island (drawer MW again).

I don't want to heat things in a plastic container, and as the water from condensed steam may drop into the food, I'm not enthusiastic about such covers, either. I want glass or ceramic for covers. Some time ago, I put a large dinner plate over a much smaller bowl. Though I usually use the microwave for reheating, I may have been cooking that time - but the large plate cracked, having been heated under the middle but not under the outside for some period. Granted, removing some of the covers that are scarcely wider than the bowl is something of a pain, even with a glove or potholder. Making those single-use products uses a lot of resources, some more sustainable than others, including the energy for production, and adds to pollution and global warming, which I try to reduce. I don't like producing more garbage than necessary, either: where are we going to store it all? Plus ... I live within a couple of miles of Canada's largest city's recently acquired garbage dump. ole j oyful

I am one that uses the heck out of my microwave. I've cooked many a potato in the mw and have never had it crack my plate! I will be more careful to always use a mw plate under it though! I agree that an oven baked potato is a million times better BUT it's so fast and it's acceptable in the mw. If we are doing baked potatoes for dinner, I will do the oven but if it's just me eating lunch, I will do it in the mw. I remember when the mw first came out, I had a cookbook that gave the method to make pretty much everything in the mw. I tried a bunch of things but some things just don't taste good in the mw, like chicken for example. I've also, never been able to cook rice in the mw no matter what I've tried, it always always boils out all over the place. I finally gave up and just cook it the traditional, stove top method.

Try a large glass cake pan, if you can find one nearly the right size (preferably smaller than the dimension of the oven).

I had an issue with a moving part in my GE microwave. My microwave had a little three leg, plastic part, that allowed the glass plate to rotate. I looked at part stores and this little, tiny plastic piece was going to cost me $37. to replace. I called GE service to complain about the price. At the time, I could have gotten a new microwave for $35. They took down my model # and sent me a new piece, no charge. Give it a try. Or, you could go buy a new microwave.

The Goodwills around here often have a variety of them, so I'd take the measurement, and keep it with me when out and about...or you could maybe even call and inquire if they have one with those dimensions.

Mine broke in my old MW. It didn't have a turntable mechanism, and the center of the bottom was lower than around the edges. My MW popcorn would not pop right being 'down in' the indentation. I took a Corelle plate, and turned it upside down, hoping it would help when popping corn. Well, that plate blew up!...to smitherines...

Yes...post the dimensions...maybe someone will have one, or happen across one.

My tray is about 18.5 by 11.5 in size. I called GE today and the replacement is $113.00. I told her I was going to look around before I buy that one. I'm going to check out all the places you all gave me. thanks

omg! don't know WHAT we would do if our plate in the mircowave broke. Running a B&B, I have often thought "what would happen if the microwave didn't work?"

Do try Goodwill, Habitat or Salvation Army. When my old MW died, I donated the glass tray to Habitat. I've seen them at Goodwill often.

DD broke the turntable in our last microwave. The replacements from the company are as much as a new microwave. It is hard to find a used one that will fit even if it is the right diameter cause all the companies make the center different! I found it easier to just buy a new microwave.

Years ago mine broke and i went to the microwave store to get another.The price at the time was more than i wanted to pay.So i came home searched my cabinets and found a corell plate that someone must have brought something to me on,and i never knew who.So i tried that and it worked,That plate stayed in the microwave for several more years til the micowave died.

Moral of the story,Use a corelle dish.

What size was your plate?...I took one out of an old micro before throwing it away...you can have it if it fits!!

$113 for a rotator plate!!! Yikes! You can buy a 1200 Watt GE Microwave oven from Best Buy for about the same price.

Look in your yellow pages for replacement parts for appliances - You might get lucky. At my neck-of-the-woods, I have found several items at Garron's. Their prices for less popular items are high as dictated by low turnover rate of the stock.

Someone here posted this website several years ago and I absolutely swear by it. We've been able to find several replacement parts we couldn't find elsewhere.

Anyway, this is a square glass tray that is roughly the 18.5 X 11.5 size that dirt mentioned above. If it isn't the right one, try searching the website for more. They have a ton of them...

Like other people said, check your local thrift stores. I see lots of them whenever I am there. How they get separated from the microwave, I don't know. And don't know if they would have one that fit but it would lot cheaper $113.00. Usually only a few dollars.
