I decided to post a link for this website after doing a search for anti-depressants and gambling addiction (see Bigack's post about her son) and finding out that there seems to be a correlation between Effexor and gambling problems. (The link I posted on her thread is specific to that and not the same as this one.)

I always check ask-a-patient before starting a new medication so I know what to expect OR maybe it will convince me to try a different drug.

I'm glad you posted this site, Lydia. I first discovered it when I was researching Versed, the memory eraser used as anesthesia. I had major concerns about the drug before I read the reports, but reading them sealed it for meÂno more Versed!

I turned this drug down when I had the hand surgery last month. The surgeon and anesthesiologist shook their heads as though I were a kook, but they had to go along with it.

Later the anesthesiologist told me that they had planned to give me Versed to raise my seizure threshhold because the anesthesia they originally planned to use carried a seizure risk. (I don't have a seizure disorder, BTW, but I do have that sensitivity to flashing lights discussed in a thread on the KT. Of course, neither physician asked me any related questions.) Sorry to run on, but I do get frustrated with medical practices!

Alisande, I refused Versed for major surgery a few years ago but was given it anyhow. I was furious. I hate having a doctor cite in great detail a conversation he had with me that I have no recollection whatsoever.

On the drive into work this morning I was just thinking about a procedure I need to have done soon. Last time they used Versed. I reminded myself to tell them not to use Versed this time. We'll see.

gra8fulgal, I don't know how I missed your answer to my original questions. I see that you have changed your Realtor, which is a good thing given the answers you provided. Every agent works differently. Some are much more diligent/detailed/creative than the others. Sounds like you have found a much better fit for your property. To answer your unasked question: Zillow pulls directly from the MLS. So do some of the other services like Realtor.com, trulia and other websites. So if the listing agent has put in the same photos multiple times in the MLS, that is exactly what shows in Zillow and the other websites. That happens to be one of my pet peeves. When bringing out a professional photographer they shoot many, many photos IME. 100 shots is not unusual. We, as Realtors, don't get all the 100 photos but the best 35 to 40 or so that have been edited by the photographer. My personal POV is show the best 35-40 shots or even a few more but don't duplicate photos. Check with your new agent. She should be able to go back to the photographer and get additional photos so the property and house can be showcased effectively without duplicates. That section you refer to in Zillow is physically filled out by the listing agent after it is uploaded to Zillow. I like to have the seller mention their key points in their own words so it looks like the people that live there and love it have added to the listing. This should be done now. Your new agent can do it with your thoughts. One more idea: when there is a property that is tough to price, it is a very good idea to bring in an appraiser that is familiar with your area. The more complex your property, the more important it is to have an appraisal done up front. Complex can mean several things, including lack of recent comparable sales.

Zalco, (re your feeling that the definition of 'partnership' would not hold up for a patient/doctor relationship) you said "Doctors do not bring one set of skills to the table while patients bring another set. Doctors bring medicine, patients bring their health, either it's maintenance or it's remediation to the table. Even when a doctor is a patient outside of her specialty, the set up is similar." I'm in agreement that patients do not bring to the table the skills that their doctors have, with their numerous years of rigorous medical training. But it is now being taught that patients bring valuable knowledge to the table, by having specific information the physician lacks. This is everything pertaining to their symptoms. It is vital information to add to the physician's trained skills, in order to bring about an accurate and expedient diagnosis. I assume that's why they named their objective 'Patients as Partners.' This in no way implies that the patient has equal medical expertise as their physician. It simply means that physicians are now being taught to engage in more communication with their patients. The old adage 'Children should be seen and not heard' was often applied to patients as well. But now this is recognized as detrimental to optimal health care. For those who don't already have a good communicative relationship with their physicians, at least their children probably will, thanks to how the next generation of med students are being trained. Elmer, if you're still reading this thread, thanks for informing me that 'Ivy League' universities are only in the U.S. I was under the (wrong) impression that the few universities ranking highest in the U.S. U.K. and Canada were somehow also referred to that way (maybe because they are all very old, lol) so I'm happy to be corrected on that. Yes, my specialist did pursue the same line of investigation (believing it to be an autoimmune problem) as my GP, so no 'superfluous steps and tests were wasted.' But my most telling symptom did not appear until after I'd been referred to the specialist, who was able to pinpoint the precise condition, because of that specific information.

Jodi, did you check out the reports on Ask a Patient? Some people have had memory problems after being given this drug. It's been a while since I read them, so I don't recall the specifics. But it was alarming. I'm appalled that your doctor gave you the drug despite being told not to.

I was given Versed for the first time for a very painful procedure during which they needed me to be able to change position for them. I had dreams afterward that I was screaming curses. I'm sure that was accurate. On some level we remember the pain we experience, even if we don't remember it.

When the doctor came to see me in my hospital room after the procedure, I asked him why the skin on my shins was scraped to the point of bleeding. He said, "That's from when you tried to get away."

Lydia, thanks so much for posting this web site. I had no idea there was anything like this out there! I just looked up my statin meds and my mouth dropped open and I was shocked to read the reviews saying that people are having the exact same reactions that I'm having. I will talk to my doctor immediately.
