Comments (9)My turn!!! 1. In planning 2008, what are you most excited about ? Probably the fact that I'm putting in a new garden that I've been planning for a couple of years. 2. What new items will you be adding to your garden? Nothing new really as far as veggies go -- but, I do plan on adding 5 of the SWC (self-watering containers) to grow 10 of my tomato plants in. I want to give them a try and see how they do. 3. What plants are you not planting this year? Hmmm. I don't think I will be planting any hot peppers (no one eats them in my house). Also I may not be growing eggplant -- I haven't made a final decision on that yet. 4. What plants have you had difficulty with that you are going to pay extra attention to this year? I would say my tomatoes. Last year they all got the wilt! They were beautiful plants loaded with fruit and one by one they started wilting and then dying.... So this year I'm trying the SWC :-) 5. Are you expanding or reducing the size of your garden in 2008? Expanding!!! Yeah!!! 6. Will there be any major changes this year? Yes, I have been gardening in only 2 - 2x8 beds fo rthe last couple of years. My first garden was 2 - 4x8's and 1 - 4x16. Of course that was BEFORE Mel came out with the Mel's Mix. The area that I had the garden in has a very invasive type tall grass. It absolutely took over the garden :-( So I abandoned that area and just put in 2 - 2x8's in a different area to use temporarily until I could get my new garden area going (which will be this year!). I had to fence the new garden area in because of the puppies who love to dig in the fluffy soil. 7. What is your greatest gardening success? Year before last -- I had the BEST tomatoes!!! They were beautiful! 8. Do you have a gardening "AH-HA" moment? Yeah, when I learned a couple of months ago that tomatoes don't like onions.... something on the onion roots that maybe causes wilt for tomatoes. Not really sure about this but I will never plant onions around my tomatoes again (just in case). 9. What is your best piece of advice for a newbie? Gardening is an art and it takes patience. Don't expect everything to go right the first time. It's a learning process. Also, it's the best therapy you can get. There is nothing like eating vegetables out of your garden that YOU grew in your dirt. 2008 will be a successful year for me if.......... my SWCs work like all the pics I've seen online LOL and I can get my new garden finished (meaning the 4x14 raised bed completed) in time to plant my corn :-) If not, that's ok -- I'll still have my 2 - 4x8 beds that I'll be planting other veggies in. Comments (4)I love it too!!! There is a smaller coordinating pendant and the semi flush is nice too. The size seems fine to me for two over a 4' island. I was all set to order from that collection and then they brought the island and I thought the styles clashed too much. I know it's good to mix it up a bit, but i wasn't sure if it would be taking it too far??? Does the style look ok with the island?? Comments (27)We went over our situation with the listing agent again: We said we have to get our own house ready for sale (we told her we'd need about a month), and asked if the owners would consider a contingency offer. She said a few years ago no one would have, but she said given the market today, yes, the sellers might be open to a contingency offer. I also asked her if she was free to tell me how long were they planning to keep it on, and she said they did not want to show through the holidays. This house listed in early August, so I'm guessing they may have signed a three-month contract. The agent also said we could think about "keeping in touch." Good for you! You knew what questions you wanted to ask and did; plus you got honest answers! It sounds like a good situation for both of you. I don't agree that you need to bid high. You also need to have your own agent as I don't know if the sellers agent can help you come to a number. You of course would want lower comps to get a better price while the seller will want higher comps, if either can be found. "I just don't understand why people go shopping for a new home when their home hasn't sold, let alone is not even remotely ready to put on the market. In a sellers market, maybe, but not in these market conditions." Raising hand... No secret that I've been out there looking since February. I looked online until late April / early May then stopped going out when the market stopped. I was still looking online though and did not see anything worth going out for until late July. Hubby & decided after the last outing that for the price we were shopping we should have found something in the chosen area(s) but it wasn't meant to be. We decided to look at new and after pounding the pavement found "the one", now we have to sell. I'm actually surprised you aren't looking in your new area. Do you have any clue what's out there? I doubt you want to rent, hopefully you won't have to. Everyone has their own reason for looking before putting their house for sale or looking before selling. I can say there is a lot of inventory in very inflated markets here. If any house will do, then you don't need to cover your bases, but if you have special needs like we did, it gets harder to find. My house is for sale right now and there is no way on this earth I would accept a contingency to take my house off the market to give you time to sell yours. In most states, the house with the contingency on it must be listed as under contract (don't know the exact term), which would significantly reduce showings for the seller even with a kick out clause. In this tough market, we're just not willing to take that chance, especially since your house is not ready to list. Not sure what the norm is here or what we would do. I know I would not take it off of the market but may consider it if I can still show the house and there was some kind of kick out clause where they would either remove the contingency......See MoreHow long do you wait to try to identify a caterpillar?
Comments (3)Hopefully the book you are using is Wagner's Eastern North America book. The first index is the hostplant index. Using that can help figure out some species. But, like most sources, the pics are of the last instar pillars. I just ripped a nest of those caterpillars out of my neighbor's buttonbush. Just assumed eastern tent caterpillar but now am kicking myself because I know they don't look like that. Did not get all of them so I'll have to investigate further. Not all nests like that are "undesirable" moths. Baltimore checkerspot butterfly caterpillars put a nest together like that....See MoreDenita
