How Hot Is It At Your Place?

It just hit 90 on my thermometer and it is humid too. Not bad at all here in the house though. I just put a pasta bake in the oven. I have baby Alyssa for awhile today. She is very good even though she is teething. Yesterday her Mommy called to tell me Alyssa "giggled" for the first time. Of course she has been making lots of sounds for a long time, but I guess this was the first giggle. I plan to make some iced tea to go with our pasta for lunch. Not sure what else to go with it. How hot is it where you are and what are you doing today?

Above 90 before noon and will hit triple digits in heat index for the next few days.

Climbing to 90 today, but thunderstorms are predicted for this afternoon or at least in a few hours. The weatherman said winds from this line of storms have been clocked at 70pmh! I so scared of wind.

Carol, I knew that if you were home, you'd be watching it. I watched it too. Early on, I thought it would pass to our southwest, but then it became apparent it wouldn't. So, I ran outside and dragged about 15 containers with plants (mostly peppers and tomatoes but also a few flowers and herbs) up underneath the patio cover. There were some I couldn't move because they were too heavy. Then I just made sure the pets all were inside and that the windows on the sunporch were closed. After that, all we could do was wait it out. The brunt of the storm hit about 2 minutes after I went inside. I was watching the radar like a possessed woman. One cell, which at one point had a tornado in it, was moving towards Granbury, and my cousin's family is south of Granbury, so I was watching it. Another severe thunderstorm was moving right straight at my mom's and brother's homes in Tarrant County, so I was watching it. Tim was on the way to work, so I was watching for storm development along his route, and then I was watching the storm that was headed for us. We got 6/10ths of an inch in the gauge, but a lot of the time the wind was blowing the rain sideways, so we may have had more than what made it into the rain gauge. Based on the large puddles, we might have had up to an inch. A storm spotter reported a tornado in the air near Thackerville, but no one else saw it and no one could see it on radar, etc. so most of us discounted the report as erroneous. There were tons of trees, tree limbs and power lines down in and around Thackerville so that community did take a real beating. Some power poles snapped in half. I'm inclined to think it was straight-line wind damage, and not the supposed tornado. After the main storm had passed, and all the cops and firefighters were out dealing with the damage, and the electric co-op guys were working to restore power, we started getting very, very strong outflow boundary type winds blowing back at us. Those winds did additional damage, especially in Marietta, which wasn't hit as hard by the earlier winds as the Thackerville area was. I think we sustained less damage than either of them since we're right in the middle. We only lost power because of trees in the Thackerville area that came down on poles/power lines. In our neighborhood, overall there was little damage. Even the pecan tree limbs that came down were dead wood with no foliage. The garden looks lovely after the rain storm. I think the moisture helped a lot since we'd gotten so very dry. I bet we have killer humidity today though. It seems like a good day to stay inside during the heat of the day. I am really concerned about how hot it will get, in terms of what the heat will do to the cool-season plants. Oh, and you know how sugar snap peas are in their growth habit--more leaners than twiners, so a lot of them were lying flat on the ground this morning when I went out to check the garden at daybreak. I picked up the vines off the ground and loosely zip-tied them to the trellis. For as strong as the winds were, I expected the corn to lodge and for at least some tomato plants/cages to be on the ground, but neither thing happened, so we were really lucky.

bed bath and beyond has 2 packs of a heat resistant funnel that I use the smaller one from. works great with a normal 5oz woozy bottle (standard hot sauce bottle), as long as the sauce isn't ridiculously thick. and since I boil my funnel with the bottles in preparation for filling, being heat resistant is a plus.

Such a hot dry summer here in Austin. I live on a creek that has dried up for the first time since we moved here 10 years ago. It's not so much my beautiful St. Augustine and annuals I'm worried about, but my trees are looking very bad. I've already lost a couple of young pecan trees. We have a huge elm tree that is shedding a lot of leaves now. I just don't know if I can water enough to keep them alive. Evidently I made some good choices in perennials because they are doing fairly good. The bed is heavily mulched and every well established. I have hardy hibiscus that are really showing off this summer. I have put off any kind of summer pruning or thinning. Anything to give them a little more shade. We havenÂt mowed in 3 weeks, IÂm kinda afraid to, it might cut all the green off the top and leave us with hay. I have noticed that people who mow their yards weekly are having a harder time keeping them green. I really donÂt want to start all over on lawn grass. If I do I will replace it with something more drought resistant. Although I do love that beautiful St. Augustine. I have double potted all of my hanging baskets and still had to set them on the ground in shade to keep from watering them every day, cause frankly folks it's just to dang hot out there for me. I also started bringing plants back in the house to save them. It's just so sad to have to decide on who lives and who dies. They say we are supposed to have a wet fall. If not, I think we are going to lose a lot of trees around here.

I replaced the heater that came with the house when it was about 25 years old, and last summer I just replaced the replacement one. I was a bit annoyed that it only lasted about 10 years or so. I remember the folks had heaters last 20+ years. But yes, that was years ago. Plus my "replacement" one was covered by the recall on the diptube and all seemed well. He showed me about flushing it and I did it quite a bit, slacked off and started noticing more rust in the water. I was a bit concerned but wrote it off as lowered maintenance. Well last summer it started leaking. The one cat came screaming at me and wouldn't leave me alone. I started following him thinking the food dish was empty and he promptly went down the basement. I stopped and when he got to the bottom of the steps, he turned and screamed at me again. I followed him down thinking he was mad about the litter box but he walked past them and into the laundry room. I hesitated, he screamed and I followed. He walked around the furnace, screamed and I finally came around and he looked at me then walked over to the trail of water heading to the floor drain. He stopped, looked at me rather proud of himself, I swore, swore again, swore louder, then he walked over and took a lick of the rusty water! But this time I decided to have it done rather than do it myself. I asked the plumber about how long they should last and he said that getting 10+ years I did real well. He said in this area 5-7 years is pretty common and I groaned. I had a 30 gallon natural gas when I moved in, replaced it with a 40 gallon (gas) and this time replaced it with a low profile 40 gallon gas unit. I only wanted to get a 30 gal to save gas cost but it was more expensive so I figured nope. Wouldn't be prudent. But the new one is supposed to be self cleaning. No idea how that works and the plumber didn't know either! I had looked into the tankless units but after doing some research and thinking about it, they don't save the megabucks that they'd like you to believe. Essentially you'll save the heat loss from the tank which isn't that much. However they should last longer than the tank units so there's a potential savings there. But you have to size it properly. So do a lot of research and get a variety of unbiased opinions on it. Don't forget hidden costs.

Right now it is 95ÃÂ° and tomorrow is predicted to be 101ÃÂ°. Also thunder showers everyday until Thursday.

I like WARM weather, but this is HOT!

Not sure what I'll be doing today other than staying in and keeping cool.

HOT and very humid here in WV. 90 right now. Too hot to do anything outside, at least the a/c keeps it co ol in here

supposed to get to 91, but we've had a couple of storms go thru...how fickled it is? dh had buckets at the office, we had just enough to wet the ground....

will do a cold dinner...tuna salad sounds good, lol...

My, that is hot! A giggling baby sounds like so much fun. :)

It's 61 degrees here. I have the day off, but I didn't have time to plan anything for it, so I just have a free day.

Shoot, I just posted our weather on Glenda's post from yesterday. In a word: rainy.

I have a peach cobbler in the oven. Ususally Harry makes it but he's too busy with his Kindle these days (grrrr). We need to run to the grocery later for milk. Haven't done much else today. Managed to get the bed made and shower, though. Not much else except the daily pick up and put away.

We must be having a cool wave it is now down to 86 and cloudy!

Our two girls joined us for lunch and I sent the rest of the baked pasta home with Amber for their supper. My giggling baby also went home. I did not hear her giggle as she slept most of the time while here. She was quite happy when awake though.

It's hot again, another day over 100 (well, only at 100 at the moment). I think, this is the 14th day in a row.

Got some plywood to finally put my mattress up on a platform. Should be easier to get up in the morning. :)

Mel came over with his pickup, and helped. Then we moved the big TV, and he fixed my brakes on my bike.

As a Thank You I took him out to lunch.

Just got back, but will head out again, to get groceries. Really tired of this heat...

Too hot and humid. My thermometer says 89 now but it will get hotter later in the afternoon. We are having thunderstorms every night. I just love them. I am staying indoors where it is cool. I have Finn here for 3 hours today. Tomorrow after water aerobics, I am going to stay around and enjoy the pool.

Just joined a couple of weeks ago...I'm soooo glad.

It was 112 on Saturday. Today is 104. If this keeps up, everything will be dead, gardens, flowers, everything.

It's been stifling the last few days, well into the 90s with dewpoints in the 70s. Storms came through last night and dropped the temps until today when it was back up there. But at least tonight it's dropped into the 70s with dewpoints in the low 60s. Not bad out there right now and tomorrow should be mild but back into the steamy stuff after that. October, where are you when we need you?

Hot and Humid here. With the humidex it feels like 102Ã¯Â¿Â½ We may get some thunder storms and rain this evening. I hope so. We need the rain so badly now. Hard to believe after the record breaking rains in June. My lawn is like straw now.

Hot and very humid here too! Forecast high of 97 with a heat index of 110 today. You know it's hot when you get out of your vehicle to go into work and your glasses fog up immediately.
