There are some really awful people around, aren't there?! Once someone stole the American flag from our front porch. I work at a school, and people have stolen plants right out of the ground, tomatoes off the bush. Those are for the kids to enjoy!

Dang people. Why can't they leave stuff alone and go buy their own. Low lifes.

We had a yard sale Saturday at my Grandpa's (my mom and I did). OUr goal was to sell enough to pay for gas for our Disney trip in December. Anway, I had to Mickey Mouse charm bracelets that I was selling. One sold to a little girl. The other one I realized missing later that morning, somebody stole it. Pretty bad when you have to steal from a yard sale. Geesh.
We did make $200 though, so that was good anyway.

Here's what some lowlife in my area did a couple weeks ago:
"July 10, 2008 : 6:00 p.m. CST

MARTHASVILLE Â A 27-year-old eastern Missouri man faces stealing charges in the theft of the burial site plaque for frontiersman Daniel Boone.

Authorities say Matthew Burgoyne of Wright City stole the plaque on June 24 and sold it for scrap.

The plaque for years marked the final resting place for Boone and his wife near Marthasville. The Daughters of the American Revolution had the plaque installed into a granite rock to mark the site 100 years after Rebecca Boone died in 1813.

Warren County detectives checked salvage yards, which led them to Burgoyne. But by that time, he had already chopped up the bronze plaque into several pieces and sold them to a scrap yard.

The plaque will cost $10,000 to replace. Authorities say it netted the suspect about $100."

That is so sad. Doesn't say much for people these days, does it? DD was washing her car in the alley behind our complex one day last year & a kid came by on a bike & stole her dirty sponge that she had put down for a minute. I know it was a kid trying to be a wise_ _ _ but still, how stupid.

I am very sorry that happened to you. Please make a police report ASAP, if you haven't already.

We also had plants, and a plant stand, stolen from the front porch. This was a few years ago, but after the neighbors we suspected moved, nothing else has gone missing.

That's just low down. I'm sorry they stole your flowers bunglogrl.

One of my friends took her kids out to eat and then let them order ice cream desserts. My friend said she took her kids to the restroom and came back to three teenagers - a boy and two girls - helping themselve to the desserts. My friend yelled at the teenagers and they took off running.

So sad, so pathetic. Why? I will never understand!

off my front door once. Some people have nothing better to me!!

This happened years ago when our mailmen drove those little vehicles to deliver mail. I had three hanging plants on my front porch. My neice stopped by and we left the house for a short while. When we got back my biggest prettiest plant was gone. It happened during the time of the regular mail delivery. I am sure the mailman took it!

I couldn't prove it of course, but since he worked for the PO, would that have been a federal crime?

Another time someone stole the battery out of my car right in front of the house.

These two things happened in one of the "best" neighborhoods in that town.

And I have had two occasions where my wallet was stolen out of my purse. Now I use a fanny pack!

I have heard on the Gardenweb side of people having all new expensive landscape put in and the next morning it is all gone. How much you want to bet it was someone on the work crew that thought they could make some extra cash on the side. It is really bad down in LA.

Petty crime is really up in this area, in most areas I think. People these days would rather turn to criminal acts rather than do without or make an honest living. Recently in another city in our news area, someone stole the heavy grates that the city puts around trees. I've heard of somewhere out west I think where someone stole one of those metal dome jungle gyms right off of a school playground.

Our local paper has had some letters to the editors about stolen cemetary flowers and someone wrote in that there are people who go around stealing them and then they sell them at flea markets in other areas.

Tampax!?!? Sheesh.

I can't believe someone actually stole a burial plaque or cemetery flowers. I hope Mr. Burgoyne's fellow inmates haze him for being so lame. He probably stole dirty sponges from yard sales as a kid.

This was likely a run-of-the-mill junkie thief, too lazy to dig my plants up out of the ground. But I won't be surprised if it happens. I also won't be surprised if someone walks in to my local nail shop tomorrow to try to sell my own dang plants back to me!

I don't know what I'd do if I returned to my table at a restaurant and saw someone eating my food, that would shock me.

Luckily we've had the same neighbors for 10 years, and we're all friends so I don't suspect them. We share plants all the time so if anyone wanted some they would have asked to dig up a few from the yard. I have dug up Irises from a neighbor. Neighbors have taken Dahlias and Glads from me over the years, after asking first of course. It saves me from having to divide them myself and it's just one of the things I love about this street.

This is a town with murders and drug dealers galore, the police can't be bothered to come and take a report for something like this. I'd go down and file a police report for a car or house break-in if I needed to file an insurance claim. I guess I'm not ticked off enough to spend the morning downtown over my missing plants! I will post a plant thief warning on our neighborhood message board and I'll mention it to the local foot patrol officer the next time I see him, if he's not busy. His job is more to stop armed robberies at the bank and grocery store.

Last year someone came by and swiped one of my big hanging baskets. ARGH!!!! It was so beautiful too!

We bought this house 20 years ago, because it was a 'nice' area...taking our time moving in because we were selling our old house in town...Dh stayed nights there because we had 2 dogs...A blonde Cocker Spaniel and a small Beagle...a door to the basement was always open for the pets and we had a big fenced in backyard for them... and were waiting to get a fence up before bringing them here...
I stayed here alot, putting up curtains, etcs.,...During this time, DH told me that a store had what I had always wanted...a white antique wrought iron sette with 2 matching chairs and a table...We bought it one day, and set it on the front porch...The next day I left to go buy paint and check on the dogs...I was gone 3-4 hours...I pulled into the driveway here and saw an empty porch...Being naive, I thought maybe DH got out of work early, and for one reason or another, moved the furniture into the house...Nope. ...When he got here later that day, a neighbor across the road told DH that he had seen 3 men drive up, jump out of a station wagon and took the furniture... A Station Wagon?!?!...DH called the police...(A waste of time)... They told him that the thieves had probably already sold it a flea market.
A few days later, DH came over to tell me that someone had stolen our beloved dogs and had left the gate wide open.

This post just makes me ill...I will never get over our house being robbed when we first married,,,they stole my jewelry box...things that could never be replaced...And my little Lane Cedar box that I got for a high school graduation present...it sat on our coffee table and held fingernail files, clippers, needle and thread...just dumb stuff...

I just know the people who steal will be very hot someday....

This morning on the news they had a video of a young man throwing a brick through a window, video taped by his accomplice. They stole a few items from the house but left their own video camera. LOL Now they have them on tape. They also left blood cutting themselves on the window.

So sorry that someone stole your plants. I really enjoy the look of my pots full of impatients on my back deck and would feel awful if someone took them.

In larger cities around here, people steal the flowers off graves to "repackage". They are the junkie-types you see selling flowers at street corners off the highways. Don't buy from those people...they have most likely stolen those flowers!

We had a garage sale a few years ago. Some low-life stole a box of 1960's 33 RPM record albums my husband was selling. And my friend Rosemnary, who used to live in Queens, had someone DIG UP some bushes in her front yard. People will steal anything that isn't nailed down!

OK..I agree they will steal ANYTHING! However, every now and then it will bite them in the rear.
We were rushing home from a picnic,had a sick kiddo in the car; heavy traffic what can I do? I told his brother to hand him the small cooler! I said "just close it up and don't worry we'll be home as fast as I can."
We got home and of course all I cared about was getting DS into house and cleaned up . Left gross cooler in front yard to take care of "later"..

You probably already heard of these dumb jerks who posted a guy's house on Craigslist as 'moving-everything must go-free'.

We built a shoulder high wrought iron fence with 2 gates, around our front yard and put a very large dog house in plain view. Most people won't take the chance to open the gate. Anyone welcome in our yard knows there's no dog, just a 'watch dog house', lol. It's probably not fool proof, but keeps many strangers off my porch. Linda

I've seen news stories about how hanging plants get stolen A LOT around Mother's Day. How nice to honor your mother with some stolen flowers!!!

Someone once stole my aluminum garbage can, right out of my driveway! I thought maybe the garbagemen took it by mistake, cause it was very badly dented, but no, somebody just took it.

It never ceases to amaze me how low people will stoop. They would probably steal your underwear if you left them hanging on the line!

I put a very nice large pot of double impatients on my Sister grave this Memorial Day weekend. It was gone when I went to pick it up. I later found out that there had been hundreds of plants stolen from graves that Friday night. I am even more ticked off because there was nothing on her grave for Memorial Day. I heard there had been one of those "tent sales" in a vacant parking lot on the other side of town that Saturday. Guess what they were selling!

dd1 has a planter practially next to the front door...now mind you, she's no gardener and the plants taken were so ordinary...day lillies for goodness sake!

we figured it had to be kids...

Wow, I've been lucky so far! I know someone who had some potted plants stolen from her house in a very small town that has virtually no crime.
