Yard sale finds this week

This week we found quite a bit but everything was pricey. I don't really bargain. If I really want something I compare the price to retail. This week's prices were good compared to retail but high for yard sales I thought.

First stop, the boys each got a free plush animal at a church sale. I got 2 paperback cookbooks for 10 cents each (I gave them a quarter). Next stop I got a vintage tiered cake pan set for $3. Then I got 5 cookbooks for $5. They were brand new but they weren't big books but still not bad. Dan got a Fisher Price barn pop-up toy for $2 and Nick got a little motorcycle for $1. It had head and tail lights so I said okay but that is kind of high for a small used toy. Cheaper than he'd pay in Wal-Mart though.

The boys got a couple more plushes for 75 cents each and we got a brand new snow cone maker for $5.

We grabbed breakfast at McDs halfway through for us so all in all it was a pricey yard sale morning for what we got but we had fun and it was a heck of a lot cheaper than a trip to Wal-Mart.

It got really hot so we didn't hit every sale.

Hey, its cheap entertainment for you and the kids! We went to an estate sale yesterday. I got a new 'vacation' themed photo album $1.50 scissors $1.50, DD got a clock (found out last night the second hand seems to be stuck) $1, and DS got a Campbells soup truck, bank $6. Heading to water fitness now-maybe I will stop at a couple of sales on the way home!

Amber and I went yesterday and today. Yesterday I bought a Nora Roberts book for $.25 and four brand new rolls of the rubber shelf liner for $.25 each. Today I bought some books, one was a Homer Laughlin dinnerware book for $.50 and a book on trees for $.25. I also bought four new bras for total of $.75. I also bought a made in Japan Siamese cat that hangs on the wall for $.50. I plan on giving that to my granddaughter sometime. Not many sales and it is almost too hot to have a sale.

Some of the best exterior glues I have found are E-6000, and GE Exterior Adhesive for Windows and Doors. I especially love the E-6000 which is available everywhere. I get it at Wal-Mart in the Crafts section. Also copper- The home stores like Menard's and Home Depot have those vinyl tiles for ceiling and kitchen, that look like copper. You could get some of those and make roofing tiles with them. Just cut to the desired size and shape with shears. You'll find lots of ideas in the vinyl tile section. -Sprout

HAHA Luvs. We had to get a dumpster, the transfer station here won't take any wood, and you have to gift wrap most other stuff to get rid of it. Everything has to be placed in special bags that are 3.00 a bag! So when you have a lot of stuff, you have to get a dumpster. And yes, I am sure I am throwing out things that people would buy at a yard sale, but I don't like having yard sales. They are a lot of work! I guess we will be picking up speed now that Labor Day is over. Still a beau beach day today and the rest of the week too. Hard to think about fall, still feels like summer!

DH and I were yard-saling today and found a sale with two shoeboxes full of shot glasses ... perfect size for (Garden Junk) plate-flower centers I think! (this is a craft that girlfriends and I are planning for next spring). They were selling for 25-cents each and I was counting out 12 of them so we'd each have four. DH was talking to one of the ladies hosting the sale and she mentioned they were raising $$ for medical expenses for their friend fighting lymphoma. I heard that and asked whether it was the result of breast cancer and yes ... it was. I'm a BC survivor, so I went over to talk to the girl and that's just what she was ... maybe 27 or 28 years old MAXIMUM. She's in the middle of her chemo treatments and doing well, the prognosis is good. DH bought all the shot glasses, I think there's 30 of them ... and gave them $40 to go toward her treatments. She cried, they all hugged him, he got so embarassed. It was a good day.

Not a yard sale fanatic, but I occasionally pick up people's trash. My best find was a white plastic outdoor bench with two attached planters. I also rescued a large fake potted tree and brought it to my doctors waiting room. Just last week I dragged home a wooden headboard from a child's bed. Not sure what I'll do with it. I was thinking of making a sign for my flower garden.

Well I see that cake pan set I bought is $20-$30 online so $3 wasn't so bad. I'm not sure it was ever used. And the snowcone machine was never used and was originally $29.99

Also Dan picked out this Mr. Magoo Santa for 75 cents and it's listed on ebay as vintage for $9.99. It doesn't look vintage to me though. Both the one in the picture and the one I bought today look brand new and I'm sure the aren't vintage. It took a while to register with me that it was Mr. Magoo.

I bought 3 star boxes (paper mache) nestled in each other.
I will use them for gift boxes, and repaint them.

a leaded crystal Butter Dish... for $3.00

I just found one on line to show you.

it was in the box and you can tell it's never been used.
didn't even look like the box was opened! lol

yea! we now have a covered butter dish!

Funny thing is that I checked this post this morning and read it and decided to hit a town's city wide sales. Normally I garage sale every weekend but this year haven't gone to any yet. I usually try and buy all the kids clothes for the next year at garage sales during the summer. Well got to the town and there were only 15 sales, but I hit the mother lode. I went to one that had tons of clothes for my oldest, filled 4 walmart sacks full for under 20 bucks and for my oldest son filled 5 bags for him. I got shoes, jammies, shirts, slacks, jeans, sweaters, sweats and everything they need for the year. The other 2 get their hand me downs so for 50 bucks outfitted the family for the next year:)

Oh Paula - that Santa Magoo is just adorable. I'm not good at bargaining either. My Mom used to say that was half the fun. You mentioned in Alisande's post about the hot weather that you're about 2 hours south of Scranton. I'm wondering if you're near me - I'm just outside Philly.

I used to buy my kids summer clothes at thrift stores. Sometimes they'll have a sale-all you can struff in a bag for $2. Better than even garage sales.

I'm just north of Harrisburg now but I used to live right in Philly. I guess I should have said I was southwest of Alisande.

I found out that Santa Magoo is from the late 1980s. Please tell me that is not vintage because if it is, I'm an ancient artifact.
