I didn't want to hijack the Nabisco post, but see that there are adblocks for IE, such as Simple Adblock, which includes Uniblue registry booster. Is this legit or not? Sounds good, but I need to know before I proceed to upload it.

Is there a reason you won't try the Firefox browser? I resisted for a long time. Now that I have switched to Firefox - I love it! It seems to actually run faster than IE. I am on satellite internet, so load time is still an issue. I sometimes switch back over to IE and realize how much longer it takes for pages to load. Not sure if it is just all the ads and crap loading or what.

I was able to easily transfer my favorites and it was not hard at all to adjust to a new browser.

As far as your question about Simple Ad Block with Uniblue registry booster - I would stay far away from that. Anything that advertises it will "clean" your registry usually wants you to pay for the service after finding hundreds of "scary" entries. It is a scare tactic to sell you their software.

I'm sure the folks at the link below can help you with blockers for IE that are safe, that will make surfing GW more pleasurable.

Either your pump is not pushing any water, (probably because it lost its prime) or you have a broken line somewhere. If its a broken line, let it run awhile. You will get a very wet spot. That's where the break is.

No pop ups on top screen. But every time I posted or went to a link, moved to a new page on GW, a mysterious pop up for gambling hidden behind everything. Other than shutting down, the only way they went away was to click the x on them...sometimes as many as 15. The irritating rolling Target ad went away. Yes, I know about stopping all of this, but it seems like we have to continually update our systems. Agree...this is getting irritating and slows down using GW. Wish they would quit messing with the site. I can deal with ads on the side, but have no interest in what feels like video conferencing with their marketeers.

I can't help but see this not as a GW problem, but a problem with whoever designs your hardware's software. I use Firefox with the free Adblock Plus and Adblock Plus Pop-Up add-ons. I have no pop-ups whatsoever on GW: not even if I hover the mouse over the green words. (And no pop-ups anywhere else, either.) Of course, I'm not using an iPad or a smart phone, but a desktop and a laptop. Windows 7 on both (even the brand-new laptop). Not up-to-the-minute; not trendy; doesn't fit in my pocket; not Apple. But no pop-ups!

Do the floors run UNDERNEATH the cabinets? Or are the floors run upto the cabs and then are cut at the face of the cabs? I'm wondering if your old floors were installed underneath the cabs and were nicely anchored by the cabinets. I'm just guessing. Until you show room shots, we won't be able to do anything but guess. Since your subfloors are exposed from underneath, you can use the 'screw from below' option. This is one of the best ways to anchor loose planks. Because your house is older (those planked subfloors indicate a build from the 50's or 60's) I'm wondering about your humidity control and/or the ACCLIMATION of the wood. An easy way to gauge the acclimation period: The time from the DELIVERY of the floor to the time of INSTALLATION...that will give you a rough idea. The other issue: was the wood 'on site' in the living space (like the living room) or was it delivered to a garage/storage shed? Where were you while the renovation was going on?

do not under any circumstance use uniblue or any other registry cleaner type product, we see so many computers that are wrecked due to use of these products. They are not needed on the newer windows systems from xp on up and they can cause serious harm to a pc especially when not used by a registry expert. Even the ones that offer to back it up first, because if it messes up you may not be able to restore it. And yes they often use scare tactics to get you to buy their products.

I personally recommend using firefox browser, you should always have at least 2 browsers on your pc, if IE were to fail you would have no way to get online. So adding firefox as a backup is a very good idea, you will probably end up liking it better too.

you need to tell us which version of IE you are using if you want suggestions for that. Is it IE 7 or 8 or 9?
some work on one but not others.

click on Help then About to find your version on the top tool bar.

for example IE7 PRO is a very good addition to that IE and it does include an ad blocker plus many other neat things

I also highly recommend everyone have spywareblaster installed on their pc, you just install it open once a week hit update and then enable all protection and it sits in the background doing it's thing, very good addition to any pc. Makes no difference what browser since it is for the pc.

Thanks, all....I did have an ominous feeling about it, so I will not install. And I will install Firefox, I promise. I had tried when it was first introduced, and I had lots of problems with it, so have been hesitant to install since. But with so many now using it, I feel that I can do it now. (I currently have IE8)

if you need help please feel free to ask, you will need to add adblock plus and easylist to your firefox but that takes about 3 clicks and a couple of minutes.

When doing the install of firefox it will ask you if you want to import your settings and faves from IE you can say yes and it will set it up just like you have your IE. You do not have to set it as default you can do that at any time.

here is the info on IE7 pro it does work on IE8 also so if you just want to add it to your current Ie you should be able to utilize the blocker in it

Phyllis, remember Firefox is a higher maintenance browser than is Opera or Chrome. For techy people and geeks, Firefox is fine but most people want (or need) to add a number of extensions to it and then those extensions will require frequent updating. My installation of Firefox gets updates at least weekly and often multiple times per week. Some will find that frustrating, especially if you're on dialup. Firefox is not a good dialup browser for the frequent updates and for the larger file size to say nothing of all the add-on downloads. Plus you have a good email client as part of Opera which you don't have in Firefox or Chrome.

Plus if you want a faster browser, Opera is not really matched. It's been copied but not matched. And when you want to copy something, you might as well copy the best. People get impressed with Firefox when they compare only to IE and yeah, it's far better. But for me, it still drags compared to Opera or K-meleon and even Chrome seems a bit faster.

I'd suggest looking at all options and choose the one(s) that you like best and best fit your needs.
