Ken, over the years, I have tried different mulches because I couldn't find one that I really like the look of. I finally dropped the dime and bought some cocoa hull mulch, because a friend had it and it looked really nice and seemed to decompose nicely. However, I like to add shredded leaves to my beds in fall. The problem is, I don't really like the look of them as a mulch - okay in the back beds or veggie beds, but in the front, more formal, more public beds, I just thought it looked too unfinished. So, for the last two years I would pull back the cocoa hulls, add the shredded leaves, and then re-cover with cocoa hulls.... Well, that didn't last long, lol! Now I'm at the point where I'm more concerned with enriching the soil than how it looks, so I think I will just live with the shredded leaves. If my beds ever get established and full enough, hopefully you won't even see the leaves. Anyway, this long-winded story is just to suggest that you try shredded leaves, lol. Not the nicest-looking mulch IMO (although many would argue with me!) but it will help that good soil of yours stay good, and might help with the frost heave in winter. :) Dee

It's possible there is a problem with water pressure or the water line itself leading to that head, but you're on the right track (starting with the easier to diagnose item first). The springs in those heads are surprisingly strong, but you should be able to pull it up if you can get a good grip on it. Driving over the head can certainly mess it up, or possibly dirt or just bad luck (early failure). Are you getting good spray pressure and distance on the other heads in that zone?

Water pressure? I am not sure. I would have to say really good though, Around 1,300 Gallons per hour from a standard 3/4" hose? I can run 8-10 Pop Up sprinklers on one line with no issues in a 1/2" supply. I tried those Rectangle spray heads, but the shape of my bed will not be compatible with those kinds of spray patterns. Maybe I will post a picture tomorrow? I was hoping there was maybe a head with a very small "cut" where the water is dispersed, most heads I see have a 1/8" [or so] opening, I think something smaller would [mist] the water more.

Thanks lehua. I replaced the sprinkler head with a new one, and still had the same problem. I also checked the plastic filter inside it, and it was clean. When I accidentally removed the sprinkler head with the water on, water gushed out of the empty socket. I didn't have a way of measuring the pressure, but to me it seemed a large amount, like a 4" tall fountain gushing out of the ground. How much pressure is needed to push water out of a sprinkler head? Also, I was able to get the adjustable sprinkler head to spray a 5-10 degree spray of water, but opening it further would turn off the spray. This could confirm the assumption that the sprinkler head needs a minimum amount of pressure to spray effectively, and wasn't receiving it.
