R.I.P. 'Big Man'

Clarence Clemons, saxophone player extraordinaire, died last night. He played in the E Street Band with Bruce Springsteen for many years, had a number of solo albums, and recently did a song with Lady Gaga.

I was a huge fan of Bruce and the guys, and always loved the byplay between Clarence and Bruce, especially the wildly extravagant introductions Bruce used to give Clarence. I've been listening to "Jungleland" and "Backstreets" and "Born to Run" today to remember how good Clarence was and how much fun it was to watch him.

Any other fans here?

he was one fabulous sax player and Bruce wouldn't have been near the band he was without Clarence...so young he was...

My favorite local radio station has been playing so many Springsteen songs today in Clarence's honor, including the numbers you mentioned.

One of their deejays, Mimi Chen, actually knew the guy -- she is very sad.

Too soon, Big Man, too soon.

I love the bright pink color, it would make the centerpiece for any garden. That's my favorite color for clothes as well.

Another South Philly star gone. Almost every neighborhood had a singer or comedian who made it big. South Philly gave the entertainment industry soooo many singers and comedians for years. He was one of the best.

I've been listening to that show for years because my husband is a car person. I would even listen to it when I wasn't with him because they were so funny. Both were very sharp witted and quick with the comeback. So sorry to hear of Tom's passing. I feel so bad for Ray, I'm guessing they were very close. Although with Alzheimer's, perhaps their relationship had changed. So sad.

Glad you are both safe. Several years ago we had hail that big that did a lot of damage. We had to have a new roof put on our house and other things repaired. We had never seen hail that large before. I thought every window in the house was going to break, but thankfully they didn't.

Oh, yes, quite the fan. Saw BS and the E street band last year in Minneapolis. Just won't be the same without CC. His legacy will live on forever. RIP.
