I love this plant, what you got is typical. Believe it or not, all of that was probably one fan when the thing was propagated last year. Given the date of your first post, you probably already have it planted, but, if not, don't wash it, don't split it, just put it in the ground as it is, and every fan will root where it hits the ground. Here's mine (straight species) from last year. Spreads into a nice clump pretty quickly, and the foliage persists beautifully all season. In your zone, you can probably plant it in pretty full sun, as opposed to what was noted for zone 8, where it would probably burn up over the summer. In my zone 7 garden, it gets full sun from when the sun comes up until about 3 PM. Whenever you want more, cut off a fan and pin it down to the surface of some soil with an opened paper clip, and it will root in a couple of weeks. - Steve

Cooper and Bailey have slacked off the eating non- edibles. We now have a metal trashcan for the back yard with a chain and lock on it. racoons had been knocking over the cans and dragging stuff out and the guys would find a smorgasbord for breakfast. We got the can in September- after both had eaten lobster shells(yep the one time we cooked lobster. ever.) Back when Bailey was 1 and 1/2 and Cooper was 6 months- one or both got into a bottle of advil- in the middle of the night- we were lucky- DS came home and woke us up when he came home and found the chewed up bottle on the floor in his room. They both spent the weekend on IVs in the emergency vets. very lucky pups.and expensive too. and then there was the time when one or both ate two corn cobs- which can be deadly- and we were outside until 3 am waiting for them to through up the emetic the vet said to give. that resulted in a kitchen trashcan they cant open. soon after one or both of them ate a pumice stone.Sensing a theme here? Partners in Crime! The vet did xrays and came out and said it was Bailey- but brought me a bag of little rocks she had eaten. So we never did find out who ate the pumice stone- it had crumbled into tiny pieces.( and the vet sent an assistant to buy one to see if it would show up on xray.) so we not only just about qualified for a diners club card at the vet- Cooper and Bailey had done their bit to advance veterinary research. so we keep them out of the really bad stuff by dog proofing - but heck they are golden retrievers- so we have piles of sticks in the yard in various stages of chewiness, and they try to bring them in. Bailey steals bits of sandpaper out of the workshop while I am working.And she loves to eat paper- napkins, envelopes, money,as well as pens. Cooper prefers my socks. oh and as puppies, add anything they could get in their mouths and chew!

thanks for the replies so far. Here is my range wall if that helps you form any opinions on how deep it should be. The one things is I certainly won't plan on really using that counter space but I can see how it would be nice to stack dinner plates in front of it out of the dishwasher and then lift them into the hutch. [img][/img] This is a first pass design with the hutch. I am adding a drawer and probably will go with glass. In adding the hutch we needed to shift the range over.....so I lost one drawer bank but increased the sizes of the others (before I had 2 25" wide drawer banks and two 18" wide drawer banks, and now I have one 32" wide and 2 27" wide). Also I am looking at extending the cabinetry out a little towards the slider (seen to the right of the plan) and dividing those inches to each side of the range, making even wider drawer banks, but not adding drawer banks. After getting this refrigerator we discovered that the water filter assembly has to be AWAY from the fridge in a place where you can reach the filter every 6 months. They suggest a cabinet next to the fridge ! Of course I had NO idea of this or would never have purchased this appliance . My contractor said the hose could be run down directly below the fridge into the basement and thus be reachable. I can't find anywhere on youtube etc that shows how the assembly is supposed to be done. My dealer hasn't been able to find anyone to come and do the install. We are just using the fridge with no ice. To compound the problem there isn't any " faucet connection fitting" in the bag of assembly parts. If anyone can give me some guidance as to how you have managed this I sure would be thankful. c
