Don't you just Love it when a Plan comes Together?

Okay, so you know we're buying a new house and moving about 40 miles from where we live now. Of course, there are things in our neighborhood that I'm going to miss.

One of the stupid things I really hate to leave behind is the Christmas Tree Shops (the chain of discount stores owned by Bed Bath and Beyond). They're my absolute favorite discount places these days. My week isn't complete if I'm not in there at least 3-4 times. If you've never been to one, they have the BEST bargains.

Anyway, I was a little bummed that I'd be too far away to get back often (hey, it's not a bargain to drive 70-80 miles to save a few cents.

YES!!! Saw an ad in the newspaper this morning that sounded as if they were opening a new store somewhere in the area. Did a little digging online and looks like they're putting one IN THE TOWN I'M MOVING TO. Which also is a half-sales-price zone--a huge bonus, in my book.

Okay, so little things make me happy some days.

We had fog yesterday morning.....it comes to this valley all times of the year. I love a foggy morning. My garden was a wash this year for a variety of reasons, but I did manage to find some nice peppers and stuffed them for supper tonight. I supplied both sets of kids the plants for their garden, and let it be known I'd welcome surpluses and they've been sharing. But I'm not used to NOT having a bounty come canning time. Thanks for the peach reminder. Mine were not bearing well this year either and I did see some up back ....same story..doubt there is over a dozen peaches on the tree and I usually get at least a bushel off that one. This time they're high enough I may not have deer competition. I'll saunter up there directly and see if I'm too late to pick them. My fall cabbage is planted in one of the new raised beds we put in. I told my husband to just mow over the old bed. It was put into ground what had not been worked for prolly seventy five years and I'm tired of fighting the competition coming up around them. It's next to my raspberry patches and a good place to expand them anyway. I am loving the cooler weather now at night. Been sleeping like a log.

Hi all Yeah I thought the comparison would be interesting. While I am hoping the other seedlings may develop similar characteristics to the little guy above I have my doubts, they look very much like distichantha at this stage. Sdandy-I reckon its going to be a big pink and blue flower...or is that I wish. Kerry: When we bought our house a nice clump of distichantha came with it.....I may have to read Uncle DerekÂs "interpretive nightmare" article and get a pic to show you, I'll do it this weekend and post on Monday. Maybe someone will be able to give us a conclusive answer. I had a quick browse over Uncles D's article and perhaps the mother plant is infact Ae.wittmackiana... Bromadams: Had to do a quick google on polyploid! What would I be looking for to ascertain that is is? When I did the X I was looking for a plant with the distichantha size and hardiness and the colouring of orlandiana. The weedy one was not part of the plan but it had other plans, like colonising the entire pot! Cheers Dennis

Estate sales are big business here, it seems. There are companies that run them much of the time. Yes, they happen here when when people die, and also can happen if an estate is being broken up, but usually is due to death. They open up much of the house, and sell pretty much everything in it. You can walk through the house, yard and garage, shopping for almost anything and everything you need, from kitchenware, and dishes to clothing, tools, collectibles, curtains, and furniture. What doesn't sell, the estate sale people take to their stores. Yes, they even have estate sale stores. I like being nosey, though, and going to estate sales in interesting neighborhoods with the cool houses. To get back to cooking, I've found some interesting cookbooks at estate sales, too. I just remembered about one I picked up that had arabic recipes. It was one of those fund raiser cookbooks that churches and civic groups do. This was done by an Arabic church, and has half Arabic recipes and half American recipes. I have yet to cook anything out of it yet, but found it fun to read through. Sally

Lol. Well there are some nurseries I frequent that I don't care, others I feel like I should at least look half way decent. I had to sort through the packs of allysum, some only had two plants when they were suppose to have three (which is why I ran out in the first place). I casually mentioned it to one of the clerks and he just laughed and said, "Yeah I find that sometimes too". duh. I was kinda hoping he'd give me a break on the price even tho it was only $.99 to begin with. This particular nursery hardly ever has sales and usually has lots of plants, trees, and shrubs left at the end of the season. I don't understand how they make a go of it unless most of their business is to landscapers. Bought a bag of mulch too. Normally I use my shredded leaf mulch but for some reason I thought the bark mulch might keep the moisture in better. It's triple shredded, pretty nice stuff actually. Not many wood slivers. I use it in the edging around my boxwood hedge borders. Which is another job that should be done soon.

I love it when that happens! The "Tree" is one of my most favorite stores. When I go back to MA and NH to visit I have to stop a all of them in the the area while visiting friends and family. Then I stop by one of our suppliers and have them ship all of my treasures home! LOL

I keep writing to the company and asking them to bring the stores to FL.

Perfect! If Target and Hancock's or Joann's would just build in Rogers, AR, I would NEVER have to go to Fayetteville AR again, that would make me really happy.

At least we finally got a BB&B in town. (Town is 25 miles away. Fayetteville is more like 40.)

Oh Oh! All you'll need now is a Roy Rogers and you'll never drive North to our part of South Jersey again!! I didn't know that Bed, B & B owned them. That's interesting. Ok now what other stores will you need? Do you have a Wegman's already?

NOOOOO--no Wegman's yet. But there are a couple of really nice ShopRite's--one only about 2 blocks away. Am keeping my fingers crossed for Wegmans. But--you'll laugh at me--I've already checked, there's a Roys on the GSParkway. Little further than Cherry Hill, but hey, now and again.....

Still, even without my favorite shopping, I'll be so deligted to get away from the congestion, the planes flying low over my house every 45-60 seconds--we're under the approach to PIA (it's impossible to hold a connected conversation outside here in the summer)
