I spent the whole week at our house at the lake, just Grant and I (Brent was there on weekends). Although it was boring at times, it was a relaxing week and Grant had fun.

Here he is having some fun on his new waterslide we got him, and then relaxing on the deck. He LOVED the waterslide, we could not get him off it. Needless to say, he was quite tired by the end of the day.

Bustopher, Yes, I don't understand why 'Fr. Hugo' isn't more popular. I can't wait until it's a few years older and becomes a giant arching shrub. It has a very nice scent as well, soapy, sweet, and spicy. The scent of this rose is one of the few that REALLY wafts across the garden for me. 'Fr. Hugo' and my lilacs were blooming at the same time this year, and the scent of 6 large lilacs can be overpowering at times, but I could actually pick out the scent of 'Fr. Hugo' from among the lilacs. The combination of both scents is heavenly. Thanks for your comments. I googled pictures of Dieramas, it looks lovely, I will have to find out if I will be able to grow it here. Kevin, Yes, 'Fr. Hugo' is the 1st to bloom here, about 2-3 weeks before anything else. He's a once bloomer, has a good scent... fresh and sweet. He starts out as an ugly plant but will be a great bush one day. LOL, All my weeds are in my lawn. I refuse to have a lawn service come and spray around my garden, so that's the price I pay. My planting beds are pristine, but my lawn is legendary for it's Dandelions. I do some spraying for them occasionally in the garden area and consistently in the front yard. oops, never noticed that the pic for the cosmos psyche didn't go through correctly. sorry about that but here is the cosmos psyche Northerner, I surprised that your double click are only about 18 inches tall. It's supposed to grow to 4 feet. I had some last year and they did get that tall. I wasn't impressed with them so traded the seeds from that last fall and didn't grow them this year. Finally figured out what the orange and yellow cosmos is. It's cosmos diablo and I forgot that I had WS those seeds this year. Just have no idea what the orange ones are and the red one. I didnt' have those last year and only sowed seeds that I saved of gazebo lavender sonata fushia psyche white candystripe picotee diablo gloria sonata lavender daydream seashells white seashells pink pied piper versailles red sonata white so where it came from, the red is beyond me. I have no idea what that little white and purple petunia is either. I only know that the seeds came from a very dark purple petunia and or a very pale pink petunia that my neighbor purchased just before a local nursery closed for the month of August. She couldn't say no to the price and she planted them all in one pot. So the seeds where a mix. I have a string around the flower so that I can save seeds from it and not mix them up with the other seeds. Highaltransplanter, my plants are huge, but the toms are still small. Last year some of my cherokee purple did crack on the top but they still tasted wonderful, wouldn't be without them. The extremes in weather temps and water can cause toms to crack, but to me that is part of growing your won tomatoes in the garden and enjoying them. Tiny tim has a sweet but a bit tart flavor to it, and I didn't find the toms that small when ripe, about the size of a sweet 100. My 25 year old daughter likes them better than the sweet 100. I never heard of the mini bush yellow cherry and couldn't find much about it when i did a search. sounds interesting though and one I would like to try as well. I should have plenty of saved seeds from the tiny tim and my other toms for trades in the fall. Angie, thanks for the complement, not sure I would say I am an awesome gardener though. Some of my plants are about as sick looking as you can get and not sure why. Some has to do with the craziest weather I have seen in my life. At the moment the news and weather people are telling me that more rain has fallen in the month of July where I live than has fallen since the 1920's. Gee, didn't need to make me feel worse about the weather and all the rain than I already do. And the severe thunderstorms that have moved through on almost a daily basis for almost 2 weeks has been unreal. But that's the life of a gardener. Some years are better than others and it's either feast or famine when it comes to good weather. A pic of one of the storms that went through about 2 weeks ago, taken from the back door. No, I don't live in the tropics or a tropical rain forest. I live in a suburb northwest of Boston MA.

Zeeth yes that is pretty fascinating but not normal. That palm looks 3 to 4 yrs old in the pic. Do you think its possible it stayed in the pot to long and then planted out ? Do you have from seed to present pics ? Would love to see that progression to see that fast growth in pictures. I have pushed palms with fertilizer and they grow fast but sometimes they have problems like trunk splitting later on. Given the way most people grow palms like fertilizing once A year "maybe" I doubt you would get that growth. I think the palm you have is exceptional for that amount of time.

Well...it really looks rough! LOL....we wanted to get that waterslide for the boys! DH was afraid it would ba a pain in the butt becayse he won't leave it up to kill the grass. I agreed, but it sure looks fun! Does it go up like the jump house? If so that'e easy, but a pain to store it! He really is having fun on it! I hope you brought it home with you...he will want to go back real soon if not! Your place looks nice there. Looks so relaxing! I don't blame you for staying the extra week!

Vikki, we will leave the slide at the lake. It's really big and I dont have a space big enough for it at home, and like your DH, Brent didn't want to kill the lawn with it.

It does blow up like the jumpy house. The air stays on while you're using it, and it has tubes that hook to the hose that squirt water onto the slide and fill up the pool.

It is kinda a pain because you need to let it dry before you store it, and water seeps into the inside through the seams so it takes some time to dry.

It's tons of fun though. I did go on it with him but this particular time from these pics, I was taking pics on the sidelines while Brent was playing on it with him.

Wow all that for ONE child? That's the kind of thing they rent out here for birthday parties. LOL! That's a lucky boy! That's a gorgeous lake, where is that?

Well, it's for one child (and more to come!!) and mommy and daddy!! LOL

Actually we debated on which waterslide to get, and thought it might be too big for him but we wanted something that he could get years of use out of and not be bored with in a few years. I didnt think he'd like it much yet but I was wrong. He loved it.

The lake is Clearlake.

Oh no wonder I didn't recognize it. Haven't been there for YEARS. Can't believe the lake looks so quiet. Where is everyone? Do they still do shows at Konocti harbor? (sp?) I think it's been 20 years.

I laughing picturing mom and dad on that thing. It looks like loads of fun! It will be great to see kid(s) on that a couple summers from now.

They really are great pictures. I love the one of him laying in the little pool looking out at the lake.

Thanks Steph....exactly why we didn't get one. We'd have to take it down and put it up too often and none of us wanted to deal with it....it'd be great to leave it up, but not possible if it's like the jump house with the constant motor running. My son is dying to buy it....our youngest one who's still at home with no kids! He spoils his nephews alot...but even he didn't want to take this up and down that many times! I never thought about the drying time....if not it would mildew...yuk! Looks like so much fun though, it shows on Grants little face!

Wow, my poor kids were deprived with just a wading pool! LOL We lived near Clearlake for 2 years before moving to Oregon. It looks like Grant had a great time!

I want a water slide, now. Geez, that looks like fun, Steph! I bet he was tuckered out at night, all that fun and fresh air.... so good for busy little boys!

Man, what a great place to hang out and relax. Next time you go, you should call us. We could keep you from getting the least bit bored! lol Well, when we aren't all napping on those comfy looking chaise lounges!

I bet Brent missed you both during the week!

OHHH HOW FUN!!! Can I be your kid just for a day??!! Grant is sooo sweet and special...he looks like he's just having a ball on that slide...and I love the pic where he's looking out over the lake!! He's just precious!!

Great pictures of your little man Steph. He's one happy child. That slide is almost like it's own water park. I think you certainly picked the right one for him (and other little beans) to grow up with. Looks like soooo much fun. Your lake house has the perfect view. It's so lovely!

I saw that slide in Costco. It looks awesome! We don't have a flat space big enough and I've had absolutely no luck with even smaller inflatable pools. Every one of them has had a hole and DH isn't handy and we end up with an expensive pile of plastic just sitting in the backyard or basement until we finally chuck it. I'm not buying anything else inflatable!

But I wish we could come and use your slide.

I looked at those too, but I was leary about the weight limit. See, I would not be able to resist trying it myself, and it would be quite conspicuous in the side yard. All the neighours would see it deflate and smother me when I tried to use it ;).
