She is as precious as can be. I am so sorry for ((you)). But she is now free of any pain that she was suffering, and you have your good memories of her. I am so glad I got to see her picture as she surely is a beauty.

I had to put my sweet Cosmo to sleep on May 5th. I'm still a mess, I miss him so much. I finally get his ashes tomorrow and I know that will open the flood gates once again.

I know Chica and Cosmo are running happily though the fields, free of pain.

I'm having a hard time dealing with this....I feel like I killed my best friend.It's so hard...did I do the right thng??????????? I don't know,the vet said it was right and deep down I know he's right.She had no "quality" of life left.She was such a proud dog all her life and I saw that pride again on the way to the vets today.She held her head up proud and gave me a kiss on the nose.I told her I loved her and I was so sorry I let her down....she would have gladly given her life to protect me and I couldn't help her anymore.I said I wouldn't give up the fight but I had to....I had to...

I am very sorry you had to go through this, but yes, you did the right thing by not letting her suffer.

Been there, done that...and oh, so know the pain you are feeling.Try to picture little Chica running around in a pretty meadow with other dogs, having a great time.....until one day in the future when, all of a sudden she stops and looks in the distance, and suddenly starts running because she will see you coming and the two of you will be united again when you both go over the Rainbow bridge. So very sorry for your loss.I've been there many times and it is one of the hardest things ever to have to decide to do.But please reamember you did the right thing and she is no longer in pain.

You definitely did the right thing Chubby Rat. Don't feel bad or guilty. We always have to ask ourselves if they are happy or comfortable, when they get so much older and are having health issues. Often we keep them, just because of our own need. Believe me, I'm not coming down on you at all. I've been in your shoes a few times. One cat was 14 and had kidney failure. She was failing and was on intervenous for several days, and wouldn't eat without me being there. Brought her home, and her kidneys started failing again. Much as I hated doing it, I knew it was the right thing to do, she would never get completely better.

Chica had a great life with you, you were a great mom as evidenced by how cute and happy he was. He knows why you did what you did, and he's having a blast with all his new friends, and won't forget you, his mom, of course.

Chubbyrat, I had to make the same decision for my darling Remy. It was heart-breaking for me to be sure but it was the right decision for Remy. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life. My heart goes out to you!

Oh, CR, I'm so sorry for your loss. Please don't be beating yourself up over the decision you made, try to think of the alternative if you had done nothing- Chica would have suffered and you spared her that, sweetie. You did her a favor by not letting that happen.

Maybe it's because I used to work for a vet and I had to deal with this every day for over 5 years, maybe I have a different outlook than most people, but I truly look at it as a favor done to the animal when you know there's no hope for a better quality of life than what they have and when what they have isn't very good at all. It's natural, sweetie- they age and get infirm and sickly and then it's up to us to make the hard decision to spare them the agony that could await them. You did the right thing. Remember that, OK?

I truly do know it was the best for her...it's just hard.That picture is NOT what Chica looked like yesterday.She was down to about 3 and 1/2 lbs and was skin and bones.You could see every single bone in her body. Her backbone stuck up about an inch.It was horrible.They told me that would happen,her body used all the nutrition she took in just to keep her alive.They said she lived much longer than they expected her to.She was a little fighter! She just got to weak to fight much more.She had no muscle in her legs to hold her up any more.I actuallt think she thanked me...she kissed my nose...

I am so very sorry for your loss. I've had to make that decision a few times. It never got any easier, but I wouldn't give up that time I had with my dear pets. You stopped her suffering -- what a kind thing to do.

(((((CR))))) I am so sorry you have had to expereince this part of having a furkid. It is hard but try to do what I do when faced with this kind of thing. I go in with the baby and hold him or her while they are put down. I talk to them and then I picture myself handing this furkid back up to God, where it came from to begin with. And then I try to imagine what it is like to be with God and all perfect again.

I don't know if that kind of imagery will help you, but it really does help me get through these things. I can't begin to tell you how many furkids we have had to put down over the years. It never gets any easier either.
