You know what...now I think I have poision ivy

On the same leg as the red spot...

I've had poision ivy many times and this looks just like it and itches just like it...

I still have the red spot but it's not itchy like this other stuff...

Gheesh...whats happening to me...LOL

You know I was going to ask if you'd been around it while you were out! You'd think the Doc would have known what it was though?

Errrr was the second spot on your leg when you saw the Doc Patti?? Now I am confused which is nothing new. LOL

Are you looking for information on killing poison ivy? Right now nothing is growing yet in New England. WeÂve got a few 4-6 inch diameter poison ivy vines in my yard that will have to be cut with a saw at some point. We also have many smaller vines. Anything small enough to cut with garden snippers, I cut the vine at the base of the tree, and then pulled up the roots. If you want to do the removal yourself, I suggest that you wear long plastic bags up your arms, held on with rubber bands. On top of that wear latex gloves over top of gardening gloves. Do not let any of the poison ivy touch your clothing, because the oils will soak through. Have a second person wheel a large trash can around behind you. That person will also be necessary to help you get into the shower afterwards without touching doorknobs or other surfaces around your house. Scrub your skin thoroughly afterward, and donÂt be surprised if you still manage to get a rash. The roots/runners of poison ivy do come up from the ground easily, at least. I suggest that you wait until the Autumn to do your pulling, though, because poison ivy is at its most potent in the Spring. Safer still, wait until it has lost its leaves.

Some how I managed to only get a slight case of poison ivy. It's been two days now and it hasn't got any worse. I can't believe how lucky I am! I went back out there and did a thorough search and found poison ivy EVERYWHERE! Oddly enough, I was ripping it out with my hands, but only got a few blisters on my arms. I was on my knees, and got even less on my legs. I am extremely lucky!

I purchased a persicaria "painter's pallette" from Lazy S, and it will be arriving this spring. The colorful foliage was a draw, but I bought this particular variety because it is rated down to zone 3, so I'm not worried about its ability to tolerate our Vermont sub-zero temperatures. Most of the other varieties were only rated down to zone 5, so they would never survive here.

Sherry, I would love to grow a wild black cherry, but I don't have any more room for trees. The east side of my yard is shaded by a big Oak, a big Cottonwood, and a big Blue Spruce. There is also an established Buckthorn and Mulberry. I would love to cut down the Buckthorn and Mulberry, but my health and budget prevent me from doing that. I do get tired of pulling out their numerous bird sown volunteers. I was planning on keeping my Hackberries more like shrubs by cutting them back every year. I was hoping I could do the same thing to a black cherry to keep it small. Sunlught is at a premium in my yard. The sun doesn't hit my garden until around 11 am. I need as much sunlight as I can get to grow all my milkweeds, and all the other host and pollinator plants. Do you think it's ok to treat a wild black cherry that way? Jay

Connie...the stuff is new...

When I knew I had to go to the doctor I shaved my legs. I think I must have spread it...Now it is just a bunch of dark red itchy blistery things...in clusters.

The red spot is one big spot (about 2 inches wide and 4 inches long) and it is solid red. a different color red.

I know I told Denny I thought I was looking washed out and needed some color...but this isn't what I meant.

It sounds a lot like poison ivy if it is spreading, just be careful. My sis had it and she is highly alergic to it. It was on her ankle area on both legs and when she went to the bathroom and pulled her underwear and shorts up she spread it all the way up her legs and then it went nuts and was an oozing mess. Me I had a 2 inch spot but I had an alergic reaction to the antibodies in poison ivy and my whole body turned red and swelled and itched like crazy. It took 4 treatments of prednisone to get rid of it. I know that there is a powder that you mix with water and soak gauze in and cover the poison ivy area, I can't think what it is but when I am in the pharmacy tomorrow and will post when I figure it out.

This new place is driving me nuts itching...I think mainly because I have to wear those heavy elastic stocking. The itch is undercover....At least I won't dig it raw.

But I'm absolute sure the first thing is not the same...

They don't look anything alike. Don't itch the same. And the red spot is loosing it's redness today with the meds and the salve.

I was more worried about it being a blood clot. I've had one of those and it looked like that...but you could feel the lump inside. This has no lump.

The clot is why I had to start wearing the socks.

make sure the clothes you were wearing (especially the socks) have been washed in the hottest water possible to get rid of the poison ivy oils on them and treat the PI asap to keep it from spreading and getting worse.

My daughter Roxanne always gets bad poison ivy. It never bothers me. I found some in my yard last week and pulled it all out with my bare hands. She is so allergic, she's had it all over her face, hands, arms,legs. A trip to the doctor and several prescriptions needed to get her back to normal.
