I've always left mine on the charger, and haven't had to replace a single battery - ever.
One that I just replaced(Panasonic) is over 5 years old. Only replaced it a few days ago when we got a multi-line base set with multiple handsets.

When not in use, mine are always in the charger. The batteries can still go bad from use. Had to replace one of ours.

I have a reminder program on my computer. It tells me every 5 days to put a phone on the charger. :)

I got three cordless ones, and I rotate which one is on the charger.

Leave in in the charger, finally had to replace the battery after at least 3 years.

All of ours always go back on their chargers after we use them. I think we have a total of six of them. One in the family room, one in each bedroom, one in the entry, and one in the master bath. We don't have to change the batteries very often, some we have never changed yet.

Wow. I'm learning here! I was always under the impression that you have to discharge the batteries, or they won't hold the charge. It only remembers the amount that is charged, so if it never drains, it will never have a long memory.

As I said, I think the newer phones don't have this memory problem I think. So the phones are on the chargers, and staying there (provided I remember!)

Ours go back on the chargers too. Also, just in case you put it down and can't find it, there is a button on the base (charger) to make it ring.

Just like any other appliance...there are differences in quality in cordless phones..and lifespan of any and all components may be the reason for a lower price.

When we had a landline, we kept the phone off the charger during the day and on it at night, it was next to the bed. Never had to replace a battery on that phone. On my headset phones, cordless, wireless, I was always replacing the battery, at least every year or even more often.

Many of the new ones do not have the memory issue but even way back when it theoretically was an issue I had phones I left on the charger when not in use. Run it down and you can't use it, so then what good is it? I have a set I bought about a year ago. Two phones and answering machine in one set. The one phone essentially died after a month or so, and the other is fine. Always on the charger. I started where I'd leave one on the charger and use the other, then switch when it got low. But that didn't last long.

What do people do with their cell phones? Mine basically gets charged once or twice a week.

My phones aren't holding charges at all. What kinds of phones do you all have? I need to get a new one this weekend.

If mine weren't in their chargers all the time, I wouldn't be able to find them.

I think mine is on the base if I am at home at the most 2 hours a day and usually my batteries last more than a year, sometimes 2 years. My phone has to be at least 10 years old and I used to be able to walk around the block with it and still use it but now I only seem to be able to take it down the street when I visit neighbours.

My friends have newer cordless phones and they run out fast if not left on the base to recharge.

I leave my cordless on the charger unless I am expecting a call, then it is on the table by my chair. I think letting the charge go down is something that hangs on after new/better technology comes out, like needing a screensaver on your PC monitor.
