I was at the Dr. office today and a women walked in and sat down. I heard what I thought was a cell phone but when I looked again it looked like a tiny, very thin TV. It was only about maybe 3" tall an 4" wide. I saw movement like a TV and talking. Is this a new item I don't know anything about? I sure would like to have one. But how would it work and get a signal?

Mobile tv is offered by most cell phone providers these days. Most cell phones with video capabilities are compatible. You pay for the service through your cell phone provider.

Maybe she had an iPhone or an iPod touch. With the phone, she could have been watching TV, with the Touch she could have been watching a video that had been previously downloaded.

I have a touch and could download movies to watch later. It can use headphones, but also plays outload without them. I LOVE it! It does a lot of other stuff, too. Calendar, address book. I can connect to the internet only when I'm in a WiFi network. So besides music, I can download books in text or audio, movies, lots of games and lots of useful applications. It keeps me busy when I have to wait, and I share it with my kids when they have to wait. Like today in the DMV it kept my 7 y/o busy with games and some preview clips of the movie "Up."

This would be why you 'water' your foundations - pretty much all of Texas has clay soils, high temperatures, and random but alternating periods which vary in length, of drought then more rain than it can handle. Placement of the soaker hose that other posters have mentioned, seems to be a key factor in the success of your foundation watering process. OP, that skinny planter under the overhang and behind the larger one might be something that the builder did to keep roots from whatever is in the bed in front of it from growing and making their way into your crawl space. I can't be entirely sure because I'm not there to look at it in person. :P My parents had a bed planter along both sides of the garage which was on slab only, while the rest of the house had a raised foundation (this was in SoCal) and planters along that in front where the master bed/bath was as well as in the back where the other two bedrooms were. When they decided to extend the master bedroom about 6 feet and reducing the sqft of lawn from where the front of the house ended to the sidewalk, they had to add some additional supports that went down into the ground deeper than the ones that were there before and put in some kind of root barrier to keep plants with extensive root systems from eventually causing all of the supports underneath the entire extension from shifting and potential collapse in an earthquake or in the event of significant soil settlement. The neighborhood nearby had houses that sank and some that heaved upwards because the entire area used to be dairy farms. That one was all slab foundations, but whether the house was on a raised foundation or a slab, the possibility of sink or upheaval was a concern because the prior land use was dairy farming. Add to that, earthquake risks and frequent periods of drought, alternating with el nino weather events? We probably could have used some foundation watering ourselves. :P For the particular concerns about the clay soils where you are and the type of foundation you've got, I'd consider using containers, partial sun/partial shade plants, and hand watering with a hose for the narrow planter area underneath the overhang. The wider one in front of it, something with deeper roots but ones that don't grow like crazy in every direction and more of a ground-cover that is low growing/spreads horizontally more than vertically. I'd suggest going to a plant nursery (if you can find one locally that isn't at a big box chain store like Home Depot, Lowes, etc...that would be ideal) and asking them what they'd suggest, and show them photos taken of the areas you intend to plant in on your phone (since most people have cell phones and those tend to have cameras built into them) for reference.

Your new June sure is loving it's new home! Heart and Soul looks good, too. I wonder if your teaspoons will have more elongated leaves being in more sun than the rounder ones I think happen in more shade? I'm not surprised to see the whites burning on High Society. It will be interesting to see what acclimates to more sun next year. I have one in sun that burns every year, and it just dawned on me to move it, lol. Ironically, it's Sun Power. It looks great in spring, which I suppose is why I've left it there, but it can't take the harsh sun we have by summer.

Wood doors/drawer fronts -- most Americans like wood, but it's not necessarily the "best". Research it and see how it applies to your situation. Paint, door/drawer front construction, etc., will impact what's "best". Plywood construction -- similar to wood doors/drawer fronts. Research it and see how it applies to your situation. Soft-close hinges -- nice to have but not a "must have". In fact, it's far cheaper to make cabinet doors soft-close after the fact. In our case, they wanted $50/hinge for soft-close; we did it (DIY) for $3/door and it was a quick 5-minute (or less) easy job per door. Full-extension drawers -- I agree! Full-extension drawers allow you to see and access the entire drawer contents without scraping your knuckles! 😄 Soft-close drawers -- a "nice to have" but not a "must have". However, it's not as easy to make drawers soft-close after the fact as soft-close hinges, so if it's important to you, take that into consideration. Note that IKEA has soft-close drawers as standard. Drawer box construction -- dove-tail joinery is often said to be superior to other forms of joins, but I don't know whether that's true in all cases. I second the IKEA comment -- why not consider them? (Unless there aren't any within an hour or two of where you live.)

Those look like aphids, possibly dead going by their tan coloration. When well fed aphids die, they remain right where they attached themselves to leaves or stems for a while before falling off......a macabre scene. Conventional insecticides labeled to kill aphids are very effective. Organic means are a bit trickier, especially oily sprays like insecticidal soap and Neem oil. Foliage damage with the organics can occur if sprayed when its too hot, and/or when its sunny. Success can be had when large gatherings of aphids occur, primarily at growing tip sites, by just directing a spray of plain, garden hose water at them. More than one time may be needed this way....again the next day(s), until the aphids have bee flushed off. They can return, but not always......certainly not likely the ones you just washed off, which were destroyed, others from elsewhere can reinfest. That's why I like using a conventional spray listed for aphids the best. Moses.

Someone may have sent her an email (which you heard the blip or beep or whatever sound when she received it) and it had a video attached. Or ... many phones have the ability to access the internet so an email may have had a link to a U-tube or some other site.

This was definitely video or TV, there may have been a phone with it, I don't know. How much do these things cost? Do you need some sort of service to have one?

Stephanie, I want an Ipod touch so bad!! but I'm trying to talk myself out of it because of the price. They look like so much fun!!

It looks like the iPod touch starts a little over $200 and goes up to $250-ish depending on how much memory it has. The iPhone is around $300.

Mine was a gift. I didn't know I wanted one until it was given to me! DH made a good choice. It is the lower memory, 8GB, and I'm not anywhere close to filling that with what I've done so far. If I were to put a movie on it, that would probably fill up a lot more memory. My mom got one for my dad for the purpose of watching movies while traveling, so she bought the one with more memory. Dad is not a tech savy guy, never uses the computer and just generally isn't interested in high tech stuff. But he loves his, too, and plays a lot of games on it. It's funny, really. He gets restless on trips, can't stand to be bored, so it was just the thing. ;o)

For the phone, yes you'd need phone service, I guess the contract, etc. I don't know. For the touch, no, but you do pay for what you download. There is a lot available to download free, too. Most games are a couple dollars. I have not tried to download a movie. I have downloaded books in text, older classics are usually free. I can also keep pictures on it, like a digital photo album, and video clips I might make of the kids doing stuff. It does not take pictures/video- I can take them from my computer and put them on the iPod.

I can use the internet, email, and text message (needed a free application download) if I'm in WiFi range. No other service needed for that, and lots of places have free WiFi. So I check wherever I go, just for grins. At a gym meet a couple hours away I was able to connect, search for local restaurants and get directions to the one we chose. It has GPS, I just can't use it on the move b/c of no WiFi conx.

I bought a small device for $30 that allows my iPod to play over my car stereo, it transmits an FM band the stereo receives. I am thinking I will download an audio book to play in the van on our upcoming long road trip.

My favorite time killer, though, is to browse iTunes and listen to short samples of every song I wander onto. I search artists, genres, listen to samples and keep wandering. It's like surfing the web, it's amazing the variety of music available, things I've never heard from all over the world! Oh, and You Tube videos. There was a free download to get USA Today news. I have to be in WiFi to update it every day, but then I can read it wherever. We use a wireless modem at home, so I enjoy using it at home.

Sorry to go on and on. I really enjoy this gadget. I asked DH for an iPod Nano, just so I could put my music on it. He "upgraded" me and he was so smart! He is satisfied with himself for chosing a gift I like so much! Best gift ever!

I have an iPod nano ($149) that I can watch videos on. There is no service, you just need to buy the videos off iTunes (1.99) you can probably do tons more, maybe buy TV show episodes? but I am a bit tech-phobic!
