We're back from wonderful, sunny FL, got home to a dead computer, the hard drive conked out the night before we got home. Had to wait thru the long weekend to get her fixed, but I'm back and at it again. I hope you all behaved, I think I'll ask Lydia for a report card on all of ya's!

We had a great time, a sea turtle had dug a nest about 50 feet away from the location of the nest 2 years ago, that was exciting to find once we got there, babies should hatch around July 17th! We ate great food, made fabulous dinners, drank wine and margaritas and just generally goofed off. LOTS of walks on the beach, we found .28Â¢ (pirate booty, right?), 88 prehistoric sharks teeth, lots of cool little shells, etc. Oh, and a new swim mask, worth over $45. And a net. A set of house keys and some sunglasses. Saw lots of neat wildlife, dolphins, birds, herons, crabs, fish, puffer fish, etc. We watched the sunset every night over the gulf and we saw 4 consecutive green flashes!It was a nice change of pace, but we're home now and back to normal. The house seemed huge at first after the little beach house!

Life is good. All the pets are fine, that's so important, we feel lots of guilt when we leave them alone with the sitter. But they survive and we have much needed away time.

No catching up or post pointers. I just want to tell you welcome home. I really missed you and wondered what you were up to in Florida

Have you thought about writing a book? I love stories that revolve around little beach houses!

Mark, Thats a tough one. There are many insects that provide pollination for our home gardens. I think the 30% reference is because of migratory beekeepers providing pollination for hundreds of acres of single crop production. In other words the California almond production would not be possible on a large scale without bringing in bees. As far as my home garden, I always see honeybees in the blooms along with other native bees. I have 5 hives in my backyard, but I would assume on a small scale, with or without the honeybees, my garden would do well. I think as the scale of your food production increases, the honey bees play a more important role in supplementing the native pollinators.

Hi HDD, I'll bet you ran into a lot of wind and rain on your trip. That same system that went thru the South worked its way up the East coast,and is now working its way out of the Northeast,after much rain,wind and snow.Many folks stranded at airports this past week. Not much fun. Glad to be back home,I'll bet. Looking forward to those photos...no hurry tho...tomorrow morning will be fine ;^) Bob

Well, thank you all for the comments. I don't think I really made myself clear, though. Probably because (as Asolo so smartly pointed out) I was kind of wallowing in self pity last evening. I do that. Wish I didn't. But I do. I was not actually asking for a solution. I made promises when I married and I take those very seriously. And I've done the math here for quite a few years. Yes, it's lonesome. No, it's not what I had in mind. It isn't even what I had reason to expect when I married this time. It wasn't like this in the beginning. But I have no intention of leaving. I have a lot invested here - literally. When we married I was the one who had a house and that went a long way toward buying the place we have now. If we split up, so does this place and it's all I have. Half of it isn't enough to keep either of us in rent. I went through one horrific divorce and came out with something (not much but something). But that was southern CA and that's a community property state. This isn't and what we have isn't worth nearly that much. So, for practical reasons alone, I won't leave. My ex is now a millionaire and I will have to work until I drop. (sigh) But I do have a home. It's not fancy or worth a lot of money but it's rural and private and pleasant and I like it. Besides that, I don't hate my husband. Far from it, in fact. I am just very disappointed. And I get very lonely and sad. I guess what I wanted from this post was a bit of encouragement. I read so many posts by women who seem to be in similar situations...I just thought that there might be a bit of comfort. Well...just goes to show, doesn't it? If I knew how to get what I want I wouldn't be in this mess. A few of you seem to have gotten the impression that I am happier alone than when my husband is home. That is not exactly right. I do enjoy the time I spend by myself because I get busy and work in my garden or do some chores around my house. I enjoy that. But not the way I would enjoy an affectionate spouse. I would much prefer to have his company IF I felt that he really wanted to be with me. That is the part that troubles me. He spends so much time elsewhere that it seems to me that he would rather be someplace else than with me during the short times I am home from work. If he doesn't WANT to be with me...well...I don't want to inflict myself on anyone. I only meant that I don't just sit and cry when he isn't around. Or, for that matter, when he is. I make a HUGE effort - usually successful, I think - to be upbeat and positive. I don't complain or pick fights. I try very hard not to give him reasons to want to be elsewhere. And for the short times he is with me he doesn't really seem miserable. He just doesn't treat me like a wife but rather like a roommate or a casual friend. I can only assume that it's enough for him because he is definitely setting the pace here. But it sure leaves me feeling rejected. I do value the (somewhat unexpected) advice you all have given, though. Thank you all for your concern and suggestions. "From what you've written, it seems to me you're living in wishes. This is your life. You've only got one of them. Act. If you don't, you'll be 58 next year and nothing will have changed." Asolo, you are always wise. Not always tactful - go ahead and laugh - but you do cut through the brush. You are quite right. I am living in wishes. And you are right that it's pointless. What I need to do is figure out some way to more fully enjoy the life I have. I don't really expect much change from the outside but maybe I can change what I am wishing for. Still, I think that the desire for a kind word -a hug now and then, I friendly glance, a compliment - is a real human need. If you are fortunate to have those things you probably don't even give them a thought. But imagine for a moment if you didn't have any of them. If the "thank you" at the fast food window was the friendliest thing you would hear all day...might you not even write a pitiful, whiny post online at night hoping for something more? Pathetic? Yes. But understandable, I think.

LOL Carol, I do have a bridge at the north end..but it's still a trip...I don't know how my hubby commutes daily so far..but he does it and I'm grateful for the ability to stay on my Island. I have purchased at Costco in the past too, and yep it's Canadian.. (BTW, Costco is exactly 33 miles from their gas station to my front door, over 2 bridges, and 45 minutes on a good day. TJ's is another 40 plus minutes on a non existant traffic day down I5.) I was kinda wanting to see if there was a difference from Canadian and NE syrup. I think I need to call my brother, he's supposed to be heading to the NE this fall or winter. I'll beg him to send me some... :o) Yeah that's it...

Welcome home traveler. Sounds like you saw more wildlife in your two weeks in FL than I saw during my three weeks in Japan, Russia and Alaska and that includes the disco on the ship! LOL

Good to have you back. I've been wanting to post some photos of my travels in the Bering Sea 'specially for you, so keep an eye out for them in the next few days.

Welcome home--did you see any flamingos? You were probably the only one on IRB! Be sure to check out Steph's PG post--and Glenda's grape salad post. Sounds good for 4th of July parties coming up. Way too many interesting posts to tell you about. You'll just have to take a day and catch up!! Glad you got your 'puter back.

It sounds like you could do an episode of "Treasure Hunters"! So did you test out the house keys on some of the cottages? lol Have you thought of getting a metal detector? Woohoo! Bet you'd really find the loot then! You could find me some nice gold jewelry. hehe...

Everybody was pretty well behaved while you were gone ... only one peep was sent to Disney. Oh wait... that was mscsippy and she went on her own free will to Disneyworld!

Well Howdy! Glad to see you back, sounds like you had a loverly time and I bet you aren't sunburnt are ya? I am, sigh I should have remembered that a cloudy day will burn ya faster than a sunny day.....nope didn't remember that at all till it was way way too late ;0)

Nothing to report post wise on my part either, here ya can share my M&M candy while we both listen to the others ;0)

Wow! Four green flashes consecutively! How amazing.
I have only seen two......and I live near the beach and used to live several blocks from the beach with an unobstructed view.
Sounds like you had a great time!
DH and I went to Tokyo to see Jake and his parents....Jake is not a baby anymore. Except for the heat and humidity, I love Tokyo. Oh, I am I gonna be a grandma again in mid Novemeber!!!!

Hi Flamey, welcome back. I was in Florida for a few dyas too. Anna and I went to Orlando, but only for 5 days, but they were long, busy days.

Thanks, everyone, for the welcome home. It's good to be back, but I'm itching already to go back, I was just going thru some of the pics. I'll make a separate post of those, just a few so I don't bore you.

Yes, we're quite tan, not burned because we pre-tanned here to avoid that. We laid out on our deck in the sissy AR sun to gear up for the FL heat. Good thing, too, because the FL sun has a lot more bite in it, especially when you add sand and water. I even went swimming 2 days in a row, even after they caught a huge bull shark not too far away, how's that for brave? lol OK, I didn't stay in long, and the water was really clear, but still!

Jodi, your name kept coming up in our conversations- I made your artichoke pasta for dinner (first time, I might add) and it was a huge hit. We added sauteed shrimp to it and had it for 2 nights, making more sauce, hearts and shrimp the next day, and you're right, it's the best, easiest dinner I've ever taken bows over. Man, we'll be making that again and again. I can't wait to see your photos and if you posted about your trip, what page is it on now? I hope you had a great time!

Kath, I'll go read about your trip right now. I'm glad I'm back, I missed all you nuts!

Oh, my Flamey when did I post my Artichoke Heart Pasta recipe? Must have been a long time ago because I don't remember doing it. Hmmm, or I don't know, it could have been last month. LOL But I agree, it's wonderful.

I'm pretty much still on day 1 of my vacation with a smattering of other days thrown in. With 2,566 photos, it will be a while before I move forward. But I will be posting my Deadliest Catch encounter (day 14) very soon.
