sicsusan -- Great to know The Krebs is still dishing it up! Going to Woolworth's for lunch was an early treat for our DS. Our next door neighbors had a 'Summer Girl' two summers. They had one boy and boy and girl twins four years younger who were my DS's age. The girl and four kids would cut through our back yard, go out the gate, cross the churchyard, cross the street, and go into a small shopping plaza to Woolworth's. It was an *adventure*! It was tiring enough so that they all napped afterwards too! jannie -- When you mentioned the menu with photos of all the entrees that reminded me of going to NYC with my mother and eating at the Automat. (Horn & Hardart's?) One side of the dining area was a wall with small brass doors. It looked a lot like a post office but the brass doors had windows. Plates with different choices of food were on the other side of the doors. You'd put a tokan in a slot to unlock a door, then put what you'd chosen on a tray. When you had everything you wanted, you'd take your tray to a table to eat. If you looked through the glass you could see into the kitchen where the food was prepared to constantly replenish the selections. We went to Radio City Music Hall to see the Rockettes on that trip. I also vaguely remember meeting my mother's Aunt Mae, who still lived in a frame house on East 43rd St. -- where she had been since arriving from Scotland in the late 1800's. (I think the UN has buildings there now.)

Cats can most certainly be trained. I can't speak for all of them, but this is how I train my cats. Now, you are going to think I am crazy....but, I am sure you figured that out a long time ago. When a cat does something I don't want it to do, I growl, make a hissing noise and touch it firmly on the nose. I don't tap or hit them, just a firm touch with a little pressure. No one told me about this....I figured you should "talk" to them in their language. I've told other people this and I was basically laughed at, and if they tried it at all, they weren't consistent. A couple of weeks ago, on the radio, they interviewed a man who makes a living going to people's houses and training and showing them how to train their dogs. It was either $700 or $750 that he charged, but for the life of the dog, he would consult for free after the initial payment. He didn't say much about his methods, except you communicate with the dog in it's own language. When pressed a little by the interviewer, he said he growls at the dog and gives a snap of the leash. So, I feel vindicated. 8-)) When I lived in Liverpool and had a lot of cats, they all knew their individual names. I could call any of them by name and they would come to me. When I went to school to be a vet tech, we had to teach an animal a conditioned response...a trick. I taught a cat to sit up on command, which is very easy, but all the cats watching me, learned to do it too.

Marilyn, I have eaten "calf fries", kind of like eating rubber bands, but with less flavor, LOL. My girls and The Princess like their fries dunked into Frosties or shakes, or whatever ice cream concoction they are eating. Um....no. Just no. My oldest daughter used to dunk her fries in mustard and her son dunks them in honey mustard dressing. Like Jack, I want my fries homemade, I fry them twice so they are nice and crispy, and I use my own homemade Chipotle Catsup to dunk them, if I use anything. I did try malt vinegar on fries once, at a Arthur Treacher's (do they even exist any more?). I didn't care for it at all, but I don't really like vinegar, not even the balsamic stuff, which someone once convinced me to put on a strawberry. And that's a whole different thread... Annie
