It sounds like we have the same problem! I got a Nokia 6133 from tmobile in March, and everything has been fine with it, until this week when I went on vacation and decided I needed a car charger. So, I ordered one off the internet, brand new Nokia charger for the 6133. After four days on vacation and my phone was about to die, I plugged it into my new car charger and I got the message "charger not supported". So, I spent the last 3 days of my vacation with no phone. Now I am home and determined to get an answer to this. I AM the authorized user on my account, so I will try and get to the bottom of this. Forget the kiosk, those guys are idiots, and only make you feel like more of one. In the meantime, did you get an answer to the problem? Oh, by the way, I plugged the phone into my home charger when I got home today, and it worked fine. It's something about the car thing I believe. Let me know if you know something I don't know. I think as the carriers have added "Gs" the biggest impact has been on data speed (smartphone use) and not so much call quality. There's no industry standard for Gs as between different systems, so one carrier's 4 G isn't necessarily faster than another's 3 G. Other than people who need smart phones for work (and many do), I'm not sure that too many people truly need a smartphone. But once you have one, you never want to be without it, that's for sure! All smartphones can be used on Wifi for data, so most people do that when home and at work to economize on data charges. As far as carriers go, I'm a longtime (like >25 years) Verizon Mobile customer but I live in an suburban area well served by towers. The only areas around me with weak signals are in the more remote hills and valleys and a few coastal areas. Unless your house is situated differently from those around you, check with neighbors to see what carriers they use and how strong their signal is. Good luck.

Now that I have more time.. My old neighbor & his lady friend had trac fones. He either had me do the minutes on both phones or went to Radio Shack because it was the only place that would do it for him. The last time I put minutes on his cell phone; it was pretty involved. He had to purchase the card then scratch it off & reading the numbers on the scratch off were a pain; then having to enter it into the phone. We have verizon; I'm not sure what type of pay as you go phones they have but they're expensive to do it that way. Last time I looked it was $30 a month plus minutes charge. I know people that do other pay as you go; Boost; virgin mobile & they are cheaper; especially if she's not going to use it much. I have never seen the one "elderly" phone in person but the pictures look good. The problem she may have is learning to use the address book or having to see the numbers to enter them in. If she can see the numbers; she may not see the screen. My 46 year old eyes are starting to have problems lol One thing to consider would be a case that she can wear around her neck; get her into the habit of having it with her in case she ever falls getting the mail or where ever because my neighbor did fall going into his house; I don't know how he managed to get up & climb 6 steps to call 911. Of course he'd just brought his trac fone into the house & put it on the table; then went outside to finish unloading his car.

This isn't a phone brand issue ... this is a battery issue. I've had a Macbook battery that did a partial melt ... my ipad battery is having issues ... my sister had a macbook battery that also charred ... so you should all probably get rid of your Apple products too! My son was also recently having battery issues with his Google phone overheating. Again, this is a battery technology issue. My husband is into remote control planes and he charges most of his batteries in special heat/explosion resistant containers. Just the nature of the technology. I'll continue to buy ipads and I'll continue to buy Samsung phones. My son will probably buy another Google phone. When you look at the total number of phones that have sold worldwide, the number of defective products is very small. I even owned the infamous Samsung Note 7, mine had no issues, but were still recalled. I've owned the Samsung Galaxy 7 without issues and will probably upgrade soon to a Note 9 or Galaxy 10, or wait for the Note 10 later this year.
