I think that would be great.....when I was b/fing Kasey I worked for someone...so the more hair I did the more money she made so to take breaks when I needed to pump if someone needed their hair done that is what I did....I wish it was easier on moms now.....I will go check it out thanks for posting this...Stacy

Thanks, I breastfed my two kids, even after I returned to work full-time. For a while, I pumped my milk in the ladies room. My co-workers were very nice.My bosses let me take extra and longer breaks, as long as I did my fair share of the work. Alisande, you are so right about it being biological and emotional. My daughters had so many advantages from being breast-fed the first year. Plus it's healthy for the mother, helping her lose weight and regain lost muscle tone. The bonding aspect was wonderful.

I breastfed my kids in the 80's and there was virtually no support. I had to pump in a bathroom stall at work on my break, no exceptions. I carried a cooler with me everyday even though I worked in the foodservice office of a University with plenty of refrigerators and freezers just outside my office. It was a little better with my third child, my co-worker was very supportive about adjusting break times to my lactating and it made such a difference to me. I believe I was able to breast feed at least two months longer just because of that. I wish mothers today and in the future the best of luck with breastfeeding. It is such a rewarding experience and I'm so glad I did it!

I remember what a pain it was for me. This is back in the early 90's and I had to pump on my break in a bathroom stall. It was horrid. I could never get comfortable and I was always nervous. I mean the bathroom was open to the public as well as employees. Ugh- but I did it. Had one bottle vanish from our employee fridge once, went out and bought a cooler that night. I kept it up for a year. That was a very long year.

I had the luxury of staying home and breastfeed/pumped milk for my girls. It was hard and I was able to be in my sweats, not business suits! I can't imagine how hard it would be to juggle working and pumping/storing etc etc. I applaud you ladies that had to do it!

I nursed my 3. I would be supportive of breaks for moms to pump, but not supportive of requiring employers to buy equipment for the moms, as the original post indicated.

You misread/misunderstood the original post. The Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009 (H.R. 2819, S. 1244), would make it possible for nursing mothers to obtain the equipment they need.

I think this will be wonderful. I just wish they had had this back in the late 60's when I was breastfeeding my little girl. I would hand pump before going to work and hand pump during lunch in the ladies room. It was awful--rush, rush. Gobbling my food down, and hiding milk in frig. So embarrassing. Employers would have laughed at you back then. That was when women were told to suck it up, or go home. I finally had to give up nursing my little baby and it broke my heart. I needed to work worse.

When I worked at Navy Federal Credit Union back in the 1990s they were undergoing a substantial expansion.

One of the additions was a new health care suite (we had 3 full time on-site nurses) were, IIRC, 4 or 5 lactation rooms.

I "signed" and I sure do hope I'm not now on email and snail mail lists. I was lucky enough to be able to nurse all three of mine for over a year and am grateful for that.

My most embrassing times was when I was doing a haircut when I should have been pumping....can you say milk let down and you could see it all over the front of my blouse.....couldn't have been a ladies hair I was cutting either but the guy was very gracious about it..but still embrassing!! Stacy

I signed it too. Although, when I saved breast milk at work (or any other time) I didn't use a pump. I found 'milking' it out by had to be much more efficient. Maybe that came from being a farm girl raised on a farm with milk cows :-)

Well shoot. Just got an email from my Congressman stating that I have to re-send my email to a different address because they get too many at the address it was sent to originally. It stated that they will only respond to email straight from residents of my district. Wonder if this is happening to all the signees?

I quit working 2 weeks after I returned with my second child because NO room or break was made or allowed for me to pump while I was working an 8-10 hour shift.

Then I couldn't even touch my child until I got in the shower and relieved some of the pain and the extreme fullness and alot of tears...

This was in 1997. In the banking industry.
