It was Gazania.

Use the search button at the bottom of the site, and type in ladybug and they should show up! She's a fantastic writer!!!

bengardening, I found only my last post about my ladybug experiences titled "manbugs last meal" dated March 26. The rest are no longer there. Was there something specifically that you wanated to know?

Here's a post from Jan. 17:

Minnie, thanks for asking....there is news.
As in my previous post about our pet Lady Bug, the little sweetie continued her usual routine of greeting us nearly every morning on the windowsill above the sink. She came to the drop of water we provided and the would settle down with a
breakfast of banana. Every couple of days, she would go into hiding for 24 to 36 hours or so then reappear and pick up the routine for several days.
Several days before Christmas, she was joined on the window sill by a friend. A little smaller than our sweetie, and a little brighter in color. At first the newcomer was a little skittish, running off to higher places on the window frame when we moved our hand toward the sill to supply food and water. After a few days, fear was lost in favor of water and food, but the two of them pretty much avoided each other. We kept their dining areas on opposite sides of the sill, but they would be found on each others spot now and then. Both would disappear for a day or so, only to reappear apparently when in need.

I suspected that the little newcomer was not a Lady Bug, but in fact, a Man Bug. I knew that in nature, the male is often smaller and more brightly colored than the female.
My suspicions were correct. Last Thursday while cleaning up the dinner dishes, I witnessed my little girl bug being "assulted" by this litle thug as she was runnng across the sill in front of me. He was clinging tightly to her backside. Actually, she seemed to be enjoying it. I could almost see her giggling along with his wiggling as she dragged him along. After about 30 seconds, he released her and just like a man, flew up onto the ceiling fan, leaving her looking stunned and abandoned. The next morning neither of them came for breakfast. We haven't seen either of them since. I suppose she is off preparing a nursery, and he is off looking for another innocent lady to seduce.

I am wondering if I should go out and buy some aphid laden plants to feed her brood. I would think that I shouldn't start them off on bananas.

And here's the first one, I believe, in December

Minnie asked, so here it is.
Each of the last 3 years we have had a ladybug that hangs around in the kitchen with us through a large part of the fall/winter season. This years 'pet' is like the others. She spends most of her time around the sink and window area, but can cover the whole countertop area in an amazingly short time. Those little legs move so fast they are a blur. She seems to like to be right where I am working. Yesterday DH and I were doing some deep cleaning and decluttering around the house using the counter top for supplies and organization. Twice I moved her to a safer place, but she came right back. So in an out of the way corner I set out a tiny piece of banana. In a few minutes, she was on it and remained there till late last evening. Some of the foods she likes are yogurt, cooked squash, oranges, cranberry sauce, smoked sausage and vanilla ice cream. She will check out anything we put out and either stay on it for hours, or immediately move away from it and make a wide path around it till I remove it. She really appreciates a drop of water. By our bed time each night, she is nowhere to be seen and when we go into the kitchen in the morning she is nowhere in sight. I put a drop of water on the window sill and soon she appears and goes right to the water. She is very active the rest of the day. Keeping her out of harms way takes a watchful eye. Two years ago, the bug that had been with us for 2 months met it's demise when Dh accidently set his water glass down on it. We were devistated.
I know that some people would think we belong locked up, but this little bug keeps us entertained and she is harmless . Just don't ask me about my pet spider.

TY to all who helped me. I had tried to use the search engine but all that came up for me was about manbugs.
My DD told me they had one in the house. MY 2 DGDs who are 3 and almost 5 were really interested in it. DD looked it up on the internet and didn't like what she found, about what they eat and things like that. They let it go in the house. She said she was going to try to find another one. The one they had didn't have any spots though. I had her read this. TY again.

I found it via Google search of gazania ladybug gardenweb. Though it has dropped off of the forum, it is still out there is cyberspace.
