I can have trouble with some English place names that are not pronounced as spelled -- like Berkeley Square is BARKley Square and Pall Mall is PELL MELL.

I remember asking directions from someone in Kentucky. I asked how to get to Versailles (vher-sigh), but there they say ver-sales.

I have always had a slight stammer, trouble with R's and W's. I cannot say "wristwatch."

Azzalea - are you thinking of euyonomous? I thought I knew what bush you were thinking of but I had to look up the spelling. I can pronounce it, just can't spell it.

My family always pronounced it Mearlyn...not Mar ril lyn. I guess being southern, I have trouble with words with 2 syllables and people still laugh at me because I say "yella" instead of yellow "yell low". Or winda...instead of "wind dough", or meer instead of "mirr or".

I couldn't think of one but it drives me nuts that my mom cannot pronounce 'library'. She says li-bary.

i cant think of anything either right now, my sil says brefixt instead of breakfast, and so do many of my friends.

My daughter, when very young, had trouble with hamburger. She called it, "hamgerber". And then there were, "patterkiller" and "flutterby".

Way too many. Roses don't all have nice easy names. Lots of them are French, German, Italian. I butcher a lot of them I am sure. I tend to rename roses that I can't pronounce well. Not to the customers, just around the nursery. My favorite right now is Bremer Stadtmusikanten. I call him Beemer Studmuffin.

Or the word Library. Is it the southern thing where we draaag our words? My husband gets on to me all the time (he is from Indiania) He says I am saying Lye-brayere. He says he has never heard of that. LOL Now I TRY to pronounce it the way he does, but he says I am not. Oh well. (;-)

The th just doesn't roll for me. I think, you need to be born here and learn the language as a child, or take speech lessons. I had neither.

I too have trouble with rural.
I had to practice in school saying:
rural...royal...roar.

Try that! It all sounds the same by the 3rd time.

Yay I'm so happy I not the only one who struggles with
rural. I have to tweak my jaw and tongue to get that word out. If I have to say "rural route" I'm really in trouble.

I'm doing another play here in our town and one of my lines is "A real railway, with a whistle and a caboose?" It took me forever to stop saying "A weel wailway, with a whistle and a caboose?"

I have a friend from Worcerter Mass. and because of him I call "that sauce" Wooster-sher sauce. Not wor-chester-shire sauce.

Oh and after reading your posts I now realize I don't say Wainwrite very well either. It comes out rainwhite.
