Hi, My name is Coal and I am an ll year old Daschaund.

Some of my owners friends Call me the barking pig. I can't for the life of me understand why. (crunch,crunch) Just wanted to stop in say a big HELLO to all you KT people!! I heard through the grapevine that there is a pretty little girl daschaund that is solid black just...like me!!

Hi, I am Skye..My registered name is Blue Skye. I am a registered Australian Shepherd. I was a Show Dog, but my personality was too soft and the breeders did not want me anymore and they were going to put me down. My mom and dad now found out about it and went to the owners and asked if they could buy me, PLEASE! I had to be spayed, and they could not even get papers on me. They had to pay for me too, but at least I am living...I am well loved and taken care of. I am 8 years old and I think I am a lap dog. Coal and I are bestest of buddies.(:-)

In the background if you look real hard you can see the table, chair, bench and lazy susan that our daddy made for our mommy out of some of the wood from our forrest wood. He cut the trees down dried the wood then debarked the wood, drew up the plans and made our mommy a table. We live in a rustic house so it fits right in. (:-)

Hi everyone! My name is dana and i'm addicted to painting. No seriously I am so indecisive that I seem to keep painting with all colors until I finally go back to the perfect shade of some color of green. I LOVE GREEN! So much that my LR, DR, Kitchen, and upstairs hall are all different shades of green. It has been an obsession since I designed my own bedroom at 13 and painted it bright electric green. I've toned down my greens on the wall but i wear alot of green in my clothing (esp kelly , bright green)Did I mention that my soon to be husband (when we FINALLY finish our house) last name is also...GREEN! I look forward to the day were we have the cute sign that says...welcome to the Green's..and then they step in my house and all the walls are green! I love texture..and vases and mirrors. I have too many vases and absolutely no where to put them! I also am addicted to craigslist and think if I miss checking every few hours something really great will be posted and i'll miss out! I've even driven as far as 4 hours to buy a dining room set. I used to compulsively shop for clothing. I had taken over 4 closets. Now since we're redoing our entire house...it has turned to houseware. At least now I don't feel like Carrie from Sex and City, where all my assets are wrapped up in clothing and shoes. I also have over $300 in paint on my shutters... I bought 4 different colors of grey/black for my shutters. That's 2 gallons per color because each time I just *knew* it was the color. Least to say I think I have about 4,000 cans of paint in my garage now. In 2 years I have painted my kitchen twice, my living room 3 times, my dining room 3 times, my hallway twice, master bath and bedroom just once but I do not like the color..perhaps because it is a creamy grey..and not green!

I haven't been here in forever because I can never figure out how to get here unless I get an e-mail notice of a new post... But guess what??? Number 4 nest hatched yesterday!!!! In August!!! Unheard of! 3 of 4 eggs hatched. The weather has been way better than normal for this time of year. I was sure the eggs would cook. And the 10 day forecast never gets above the 80's. So they just might have a chance! Trying as always not to get too excited!

Thanks to you both, I will go back and dig them out a bit more later this week; for right now I just put back a light blanket of dry leaves, figure a sudden change in sunlight intensity and humidity wouldn't be appreciated! Question about 'heirloom' - my initial understanding was that it was to identify cultivated strains that could be traced back - sort of purebreds of the plant world. But it seems that I see it slapped on everything lately; catalogs listing "this is from seed from our aunt Ethel's garden" and that qualifies it as some magical special desirable (and more expensive) variety. Is the term just essentially a commercial buzz word, or is there a legit definition?

You guys have some fantastic ideas!! He's been growing a spring, summer, and fall garden since I've know him......and he was only 9 or 10 then! He has garlic planted now, but annually grows tomatoes, squashes, okra, beans, potatoes, a variety of greens, purple hull peas, etc.... I like the stirrup hoe idea and found them on Amazon for under $20 so I can get him a gift card at he local nursery to finish him up. They have both plants and seeds there. I went ahead and ordered the hoe for DH too, along with some bamboo poles and netting to keep the blackbirds out of our spring plantings. You guys are great! Thanks so much for the input!!!

What beautiful dogs.Thank you for saving Skye's life.My Drake "was a throw away" also.He will live here w/me for the rest of his sweet life,and he too,is a little "fluffy'.Thats ok,he is happy and thats what matters.He never has to worry about being beaten or starved again.

Awww! So sweet! With such a long back, doesn't Coal hurt from carrying the extra weight?

We've had four Westies. Current one, Eliot, is a puppy mill dog from Westie Rescue. He was only five pounds when we got him. (Or, rather, HE got US.) Now he's nine and 17 lbs. We wuv Westies.

What beautiful babies! We have an Australian too. His name is Junior and he is BOSS in this house. It is a hoot to watch him herd all of us- he tries it with the cats but they ignore him!

Skye looks just like my sister's Aussie, Tillie (as in Matilda - Waltzing Matilda). Tillie is one neurotic dog!

Coal is all bark and no bite. He is actually very friendly. We wish we had named him Jack Daniels...cause he is such a hard Licker. (;-)

When Skye is tired of our company she tries to herd them back to the backdoor by nudging them on their backleg. If we are in the back yard she will nudge them to their car. It is like she is saying " Go home, I am tired of all this company!!" She is soo funny! Aussies are truly herding dogs!!

If you like living out in the woods (we are bordered on three sides of national forrest land-10,000 acres behind us and 2,000+ on each side.) You would love it. We are remote. One delivery guy said "They must have to deliver sunshine out here." We like it, though. Nice and quiet. You never have to worry about you dogs getting run over when you go out on walks.

I guess daschaunds like to eat. I think Coal could smell a drop of gravy through the linoleum on the hardwood floors underneath. He would probably dig through to get to that drop of gravy. Lord, that boy can eat. One time I had brought him a chicken strip from a restaurant and before I could get it unwrapped from the napkin he snatched it away from me, ran off and ate the chicken strip, napkin and all. Just in one chew -gulp gulp. He has never been starved or anything. We have had him since he was 7 weeks old. He just loves to eat. And such a begger!! He sits on his hind legs and beggs. He taught that himself.

Your doggies are so cute. Amber's Angel is a dachshund and she was adopted from the Humane Society. They have to keep a close eye on her weight, mostly they get cooked vegetables and a bit of boiled chicken or special raw food. I really love dachshunds and yours is so cute. Skye is a sweety too. That is the name of my vet's dog and she is a good show dog. She is a border collie. She is always taking her places to show. They are sure good herders. Thanks for the pictures.

Love the pictures. I have 3 dachshunds myself--all black and tan though--I have never seen the solid black ones until I say Coal and Elvira on here--love them. Skye is beautiful too. I would love a bigger dog but one of my daughters is deathly afraid of them--never been bit or anything--just very afraid.
Alex--my oldest doxie would eat until he burst if we let him--we have had him since he was 8 weeks old so I know he has never been starving either--the 2 others we have--Rascal and Baxter--couldn't care less about food most of the time--and they don't like to ride in cars at all--they are very untypical dachshunds!!

rthummer, you would hve lol'ed at one of the kids soccer games..one parent brought their aussie and thought she would break her leash trying to get to the kids, lol...she so wanted to round them up and play...
