question about the photo uploads

I've been trying to upload a photo and it was taking forever to upload.. I finally cancelled it. I bet it's because I have dial-up. :( Could that be right?

Yes for sure, and I am sure you have to wait for the pics to load on those threads too. It is one of the unfortunate things about dial up.

yes, I do have to wait a while to view all the pics you all post..bummer about the dial-up.
Love everyone's pictures though. Most are worth the wait. LOL

Hi-- I know nothing abt. putting photos or a blog on GW, so my son took some pics of my garden and my Granddaughter worked on making me a blog... but we can't find information or instructions on how to put it w/my posts.. please can you direct me to a fact-sheet or page to tell me how to attach it to my posts...in simple step-by-step language that this tech-novice (brain-dead) gardener can understand...... I appreciate any and all help, thanks, sally

Tamara, in the previous version of the photo uploading change, we could click on the image and it would become larger. Now it remains constant. I speak for myself, and I assume others might agree, the images on this forum are used to identify possible plant disease, or just plant identity, and it would be important to have the image larger at some point. Newcomers to GWeb may have no photo album account such as Flickr or Photobucket to use, and for a single question it might not be worth creating such an account. So this option for a direct upload is great.....just how can it be fixed to view a larger image at some point? Could it be CROPPED to reduce the posted size, and a magnification of maybe 3 or 4 times once we click on it? Thanks for dealing with the photo issues. It's wonderful to be able to add photos in all the ways GW permits.

." go to tinypic.com and upload photos to that site (you don't need an account). This is the method I use. Choose the HTML tag, not the IMG. Whichever method you use, you just post the HTML tag in your message. You can post as many as you want, or think the readers can stand. " .....and that is the option I chose also. I was sidetracked over at TinyPic.com for about two hours while I played. So many ways to upload photos now, and for FREE..... I took shots today that I hope will look good enough to upload. I don't understand all that I know, but I am not confused anymore. :) Thanks everyone for your help. The picture included here is a passionflower which I planted in a huge tub with a bamboo teepee to climb. I put it in the grotto at my church. I edited it with Virtual Painter 5.

I wanted to check how this tall skinny photo would show up. I noticed that all of the other pictures seemed to be resized to the same width and that the thumbnail or preview was the same size as the photo when clicked on. I liked it better when the thumbnails were small and then you could click on it to get a large photo. Anyway, this photo is one I took this week of a bromeliad in my back yard that I've had for two years, and this is the first time it has bloomed. It has two spikes, but one is much taller and bigger than the other. I had no idea what the flowers would look like, and I was a bit disappointed at first, but now I'm getting used to it, especially since the flowers seem to last quite a long time. The purple parts haven't even opened yet, and it's had spikes for a month now. It's got wicked leaves - like a very sharp saw blade - and so it is difficult to tend, but it seems impervious to pests of any kind. Lars

Her sending it in any way is still the same it is through dial up, so email or direct posting it is all going out the same way. So that won't help.
Only other option is going somewhere else that you can use high speed Internet access.

Reduce the file size of your picture before attempting to upload. This will speed up things considerably!

It hasn't been too long ago since I was on dial-up - I remember it well! LOL!

I always reduced the size of my pics and could upload and email a few at a time without much trouble. It wasn't super duper speedy - but it was manageable.

I used the "Windows Power Toy" file size reducer when I uploaded pictures.

If I emailed pictures, I went directly to the picture (in it's folder in the Pictures file on my computer) right clicked on it and selected send to then selected mail recipient and the attach files popped up and asked me what size to re-size the pictures. I always picked the smallest option.

I am attaching a link to an earlier thread where RavenCajun talked about Windows PowerToy gadgets for resizing pictures. She has the link along with them. If I remember correctly - it is a very quick download!

I have satellite internet now - VERY fast!
