Thursday's Midwest Weather....BAD!

Sounds like it could be some wild weather coming to the midwest!

Wichita Â The National Weather Service is giving advance warning of a possible tornado outbreak in the Great Plains on Thursday with conditions similar to a deadly day in 1974 when 39 tornadoes touched down.

Computer forecasting models for Thursday resemble those on June 8, 1974, when more than three dozen tornadoes touched down in the southern Plains and killed 22 people, including six in Emporia.

"I think this event warrants more advance warning," said Robb Lawson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wichita.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric AdministrationÂs Storm Prediction Center has been warning for days of the outbreak.

I'm watching CNN and they are showing pictures of Washington DC and the storms there. I don't remember a Spring with so many devastating storms!

Here in m y part of Texas it is hot and very dry. I'm not complaining. I'd rather have this than all the storms!

The OKC stations have been saying for 2-3 days now that Thursday is "the day to watch." *sigh* We have Cowboy Church on Thursday night and we're due to leave Friday on vacation.

I hope that if it hails big enough to bust windshields, it waits until after church when I have my truck in the garage.
I hope if it tornados, that nobody is killed anywhere.

Better yet, I hope the weather gurus are wrong.

Yes, it is possible to attend the convention and not stay in motel. Just make sure to get signed up by using the info at the link. If I am not mistaken a person is able to attend the vendors and not be a paid attendee at the convention. Now dont quote me as I am just a messenger putting the info on the post by request. A group from Pella are coming to the convention. Connie and I are leaving on Thursday.We are hoping ot stop at some nurseries or garden centers along the way. So if anyone has any ideas, let me know. Bruce will be staying home to water, just kidding. He will be to busy to water, he is in charge of our chruch group that will be working on the Habitat for Humanities house, that will be my cousins home. That's exciting! Some of the others from Pella are arriving, I think on Friday. Counting the hours. Looking forward to meeting many of you. Lisa, I have seen you before, but have never gotten to meet you, maybe this time. Seems like my head is always in the hostas, and not looking around to meeting others. I will try harder this time, and not be overwhelmed with the gardens or vendors. Jamie, we will be looking for your shirt. Always fun talking with MaryAnn, she gave me alot of tips last year, on doing the cut leaf show. not doing it this year, as we are so dry, and the cutworms are bad also. Will also look for name tags of Mark and Marsha. I remember my first convention, was hard to take it all in, like I said my head was in the hostas! Always good to see Josh and his family, fun to see what they have for sale also! Last year bought Kiwi Blue Flash. Is MrHeinz going to be there also? Neat to see how is getting addicted to hostas in a short time! John, would be great if you could come, arent you ready for a hosta vacation? Again counting the hours................

Plantermunn, I know just how you feel! I watered the acre around our house, barn/garage, chicken coop, and veggie garden for almost 36 hours straight before the fires began and had to leave the house just hoping the watering would pay off if fire came our way. I did see people standing in their yards with a sprinkler or two going and a water hose in their hands trying to keep the fire away from their homes yesterday. In some cases, the fire was just a few yards away from them and their homes. I won't know until I get back out there today if they succeeded in saving their own homes. Moni, When we lived in town, I never gave grass fires and wildfires a second thought and never, once, felt threatened by them. That all changed when we moved to rural Oklahoma, though. Now, every decision I make, including which plants to plant, is made with "firescaping" in mind. It is like living in a whole different world. Kathy, Wasn't the best night for a block party, was it? Air quality still horrendously bad here this morning. Amanda, Thanks for the love you're sending out today. Mitch, I am sorry to hear about all the devastation and especially about Dibble. I met some firefighters from Dibble when they came here in March to help us with a huge wildfire in the Pike/Oswalt Rd. area and they were nice guys. (Can you believe they drove from there to here to help us that night? Every dept. in your county sent us at least one truck that night and they arrived in one big convoy--and we were so very grateful for their assistance.) I am sure today will be a better day, but for those struggling with the lose of their homes and possessions, it will be a very hard and emotional day as they begin to deal with their losses. Another panel on the dome fell in last night about 5pm. More snow, albeit nothing like last time, will be coming the next day or two. Reminds me of the winters as a kid. We've had it pretty soft for a lot of years. Last year was icy and cold with some snow but this year is cold and snowy so far. Not TOO bad ice-wise at least. I have groceries but can get out and about. I'll finish up my week's work today (Thursday) and off through the weekend. Jasdip, suggest to Teresa_mn that she try clearing out the cache and cookies in the browser. If that doesn't work, try a different browser. So many people are having trouble lately. I use Opera and nothing like these problems here. It's really the best browser out there in so many ways. Big decision to make here... should I go out and have a big old country style breakfast from a great little restaurant I like, or wait and belly-up to the hog trough later on? Decisions, decisions! Can only handle one of them in a day...

Dang, this midwest weather! I am so looking forward to my week in CA just lounging around a pool, eating lots of fresh seafood, fresh fruit and veggies and raw oysters. I guess I better keep my fingers crossed that I don't encounter an earthquake there. A friend keeps teasing me that I brought bad weather to Iowa when I moved here. I have experienced floods, ice storms, blizzards and tornado warnings in the past two and half years I have been here.

Keeping you all in my prayers ahead of time! My knees have been killing me for the last 24 hours. I could even feel them in my dreams last night. Last time they were this bad was the Fri of Mem. Day weekend when the tornado hit the Carthage, MO area. I couldn't even stand the breeze from the fan blowing on them that night.

yup, it doesn't look good here either. Mel and I are getting outta here in the morning. His wife is driving us south as far as we were going to ride. Depending on the wind we either still ride somewhat further south, or just camp at the lake by Pauls Valley.
Count me in with the people crossing their fingers, that it won't be as bad as expected.

It is just squishy here in Western Iowa - land of lakes today!

Channel 8 says the predictor models are totally unreliable with this system - so I hope it is wrong!

I am ready for sunshine and no rain.

The really loud thunder woke me up in the night and I finally got up and watched the local channels talking about all the tornadoes on the ground south and east of me. Once the thunder stopped I went back to bed. We have storms predicted for the next 7 days and my kitties will be alone.

It sounds like it's suppose to get rough here in southeastern Minnesota by late this afternoon and evening.
