Need Advice

Bradley has high frequency hearing loss from nerve damage due to one of the chemo drugs he was given - it's quite normal and he's had hearing evaluations every 6 months since then. They always tell us he's borderline for hearing aid recommendation. He has only 2 out of 8 normal range frequencies, one that is barely out, one a little farther and then four that are way out (the high frequencies, 3000-8000). We keep putting hearing aides off b/c neither of us really want him to have them and we feel that he speaks quite well and seems to hear well enough. However, if he goes to school, they tell us he will have trouble hearing in the classroom, playing ball etc due to background noise. Apparently, hearing aids cost around 3 grand (excluded by insurance) and there is the free hearing aid program going on right now that a friend of mine told me about, but I'll have to overnight the paperwork, deadline is Wed. I want to go ahead and get them and do a trial. Larry does not want to do it. Period. He thinks he'll do fine w/o them. But I think I'm going to veto and do it anyway, but I'm really torn up about it, b/c Larry says I'm giving him a whole lot of problems by getting them (kids will make fun of him etc.)

I don't know what to do. I hate to take hearing aids and then not use them - someone else could benefit from them. I need to be there at 3 today to get ear molds made. Argh. Really upset and frustrated
