People get fatty tissue bumps too. DH had two removed from his should blade area and both tested neg. for cancer. I have one on my shoulder blade but Dr said it is ok. Been there for many years.

Thank goodness it's just fat! Okay...so now you put the sweetie pie on a diet and tell her, "No more treats!".

If Elvira is a dog, try giving her thawed/frozen cauliflower as a treat. My Tootie loves caulifliower and baby carrots, but she prefers the cauliflower.

Elvira is mini (tweenie) Dachshund and loves carrots and any veggies, fresh or frozen, so that is what she gets from now on. I guess I should do the same. LOL

Our Belle a German Shorthair Pointer who is 12yrs old, has developed quite a few of these in the last 2 yrs, some are big too. But our vet never said anything about having to lose weight, more just like they are a common occurance in dogs. I bet on a mini Dachsund they are very noticable. Poor Elvira.

My border collie has one on each of his flanks - I, too, thought it was cancer, but was relieved to hear the vet say it was fat deposits.

I had one on the inside of my arm (in the crook of it) a few years ago and had it removed. Now, if it had been on my BUTT, I wouldn't have been surprised..........

I once had an overweight Sheltie/Aussie who had lots of those fatty tumors.

The last time I had to put a dog on a diet I used the Nutro Max weight loss kibble. Never met a dog who didn't like it unlike some of the other high-end brands. My vet was so impressed he put one of his dogs on it.

You can also substitute puffed wheat for some of your dog's regular kibble. Canned green beans also make a good low-cal stretcher or "gravy" if you dog likes their kibble with "sauce".

Never follow the direction on dog food packages. My 90lbers get a very scant cup of dry in the morning and two cups of dry with a quarter of a small can wet or a half can green beans or carrots each in the evening. The are big, active and extremely healthy.

If your dog is a self feeder stop the practice. Feed only twice a day and if she picks take it away after 15 minutes and wait 'til the next scheduled feeding time. She should act like she's starving at every meal. If she's not then she's being over-fed.

Our vet told us not to give our dog carrots as they had too many calories because of the sweetness. Benji also liked raw turnip. He won't let us give him any treats. It is really hard. How I got around it was to soak some of the little bit of food he gets in warm water and stuff a kong half full, and then freeze it. When he finishes his regular dry food, he gets this and it keeps him happy for 20 minutes or so. It stops him from begging for something else. He has lost the weight that he needed to, but it hasn't been easy.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. It won't be easy because she is such a begger. She looks at you with sad brown eyes so how can you not give her a snack or two. I think all Dachshunds learn that trick early. I will check out the Nutro Max weight loss kibble.
