I don't think it's your chair. When my ankles swell it's usually because I'm hot. Is it hot and humid? Were you sitting long? Blood pools in the lower legs and sometimes "separates out" the water, which leaks out of the veins in your legs, causing the ankles to swell. If I were you, I'd get moving. Walk or take a bike ride. Or rest with a pillow or cushion under your feet to get the blood flowing toward your head.

I agree w/ jannie. I take a diuretic every morning, so I rarely have that. I think too much salt might also cause it, but you need to get up and move around some. Wiggle those ankles!!

Poor circulation? Try a small footstool to prop your feet on while at the computer. My ankles swell a lot but mine is due to Hypothyroidism. Still don't have the meds right. :(

try not staying seated for long periods take a walk around break about every 20-30 minutes or so even just to stand up and shake em out a little. I know stand up and do a little dance! LOL I sit in my recliner with my legs up because mine do that too.
Motrin or aleve will help reduce inflamation but be sure you eat when taking it so it does not mess with your stomach.

Ravencajun is right - you need to move around more. I had dilated cardiomyopathy and have a tendency to retain water, and my cardiologist told me that you have to keep moving to keep it away.

When your ankles do swell, you need to get them up over your head, to let gravity to its thing. (Again, from my cardiologist.) I lie on the sofa and twist myself a bit so that my legs are on the back of the sofa. Stay that way for 15-20 minutes and it helps a lot.

My ankles are so swollen by the end of the day I can barely walk. They want me to have some kind of surgery to go in and remove plaque from the arteries in my legs. No way. I wear compression socks at night, it helps a lot, but they are a PITA to get on and off.

AAA...I wear custom made socks that are somewhat like the T.E.D. hose. Mine are made by Mediven. They keep my legs and ankles from swelling. They have all kinds of them.

I have my legs and ankles measured and order them. Mine are very expensive. I don't think you would need anyting like these...but even some of the socks you can buy at a drug store to wear in the evening when you are sitting at computer will help.

My daughter has a sit down job and since she had surgery on her ankle, it swells a lot. She won't wear the socks.. So once every hour she gets up and walks around a little before sitting back down.

Mine always swell when I cruise.
I sleep with my foot elevated and that helps.

I have varicose veins and they have me wearing those custom-tailored squeezy socks, at about 40 bucks a pair.

They recommend that when I'm not moving around, e.g. at computer, that I move my legs and feet, dancing them around some. And put my feet up level with my body when I can.

People like me who are old, overweight, and fighting type 2 diabetes have a problem with swelling in the lower legs and feet while sitting at the computer - and that is not good. It helps to exercise the lower legs every 15 to 30 minutes. It doesn't have to be strenous; It needs to flex the big muscles and keep the circulation going. That's important to counter potential blood clots. Devise moves that tensions the calves and other large muscles.

The second item is your chair. You need to relieve the pressure on the backside of the legs near the front edge of the chair. A soft "water fall front edge" of the seat is a plus. If the chair height to too high, it will bring undue pressure to the backside of the legs. However, if you find it a poor position to lower your chair, and you can not lower the height of the monitor, then short legged folks may have to resort to a filler platform in front of the chair. It also helps to periodically get up from the chair. Walking around a bit is recommended if practical.

The worst swelling occurs when you fall asleep in the chair and do not move.

i drink water, have my feet elevated, and try not to sit as long as i do, lol....but darn it you get to reading posts and time flys!
