Where do you order your checks from?

My last order was through Checkworks; I don't know why, must've had one of those coupons that you see in the coupon inserts in the Sunday newspaper. Service was fine, no printing issues or anything.

I don't write as many checks as I once did, because the majority of my bills are paid over the Internet now. Keeps me from having to buy a lot of stamps, too! And I've never ordered through the bank after the first box or two I had to get through it when I've opened a new checking account -- wayyy too expensive!

Thought I'd just do a quick Web search of other check printers, for single personal checks (meaning, not duplicates).

Pretty sure I've used Checks Unlimited in the past, but they seem to be more costly, and for fewer checks per box (125; most others are 150).

Costco is more economical, but I don't need so many (250 per box).

What service have you used?

Anybody get them through WalMart??

I have used Wal-Mart.com several times and have always had fast service and no problems.

I get mine through Walmart now that I've exhausted all the 'first time order specials' through the other check places.
Have had no problems with the Walmart checks or service.

There are lots of great places to order bulbs from... those suggested above by others are good... I like Brent & Becky's, BloomingBulb.com, JohnScheepers.com... or you could just Google fall bulbs and check out the list that search will return for you. GardenWeb's Garden Bazaar has loads of bulb places listed to check out... and then there's eBay, where you can bid on auctions of bulbs or bulb lots. Hope those suggestions are helpful to you!

Where do you order your trees from? & Japanese maples?

I don't order them from anywhere - I just visit my favorite local nursery, pick 'em out and take 'em home :-)) Seriously, unless you are looking for something very unique or uncommon, a good local garden center/retail nursery may be your best bet. You will get far larger trees and not have shipping expenses. Plus, you will be looking at trees best suited for your location, rather than something grown (and perhaps better adapted) to a climate quite distant and different from yours. And it is always an excellent idea to support your local independent garden center whenever possible. As to the coral bark maple, it is unlikely to be very happy in an area of high summer humidity, which I believe would include coastal NC. You may want to inquire on the Japanese maple forum, but many of the regular posters there report difficulty in growing this selection successfully in very humid, very hot locations or those that experience considerable winter cold. It appears to do best in the mild climate of the PNW and can even experience some problems there. D's Maples is located in NC and is a very well respected (small) mail order supplier of Japanese maples, including some rather unique and hard to find varieties. I had very good experience with Northern Grown perennials- sends bonus plant, pleasure to deal with Hallson gardens- plants I got from Chris last year doing amazingly well, sends bonus plant Naylor Creek- lots of not so common varieties, double eye at least for every plant Chuck Plemmons- hostaman- prices are great, excellent root system, ordered again, bonus plant Hosta patch- no bonus plant but few of the plants from my order were super sized- multiple eyes, had to dig really big holes to get them in. Recently I ordered from Kirby gardens and got nice plants with good root system. I ordered 3 plants, they were out of 1 so I got a bonus plant as "compensation for trouble" ;) Prices were less than many other companies on newer varieties Of course, New Hampshire hosta clearance sale was excellent deal as well and plants came in healthy and good root system. If you go to Hostasgalore website- he lists hosta sources by state and his favorite ebay sellers- I found it to be great help to search for hosta places nearby. Just placed an order to Dawn's bloomers as they had few of the hostas I've been looking for- Blue Shadows, Forest Shadows and l/s San Kao- will report. Have been eying Hillcrest hostas in IA- they have amazing 1500 varieties to choose from but am not sure if my budget for this year will take it ;)

Oops! I seem to have forgotten that I started this thread, but the responses have been very helpful. I think I will definitely to go El Camaguey and buy a tortilla press, although I don't think it has a stainless steel surface like Ann's, which would be nice. I do keep dry masa on hand, but I also keep fresh masa in the freezer - for making what I thought were empanadas, but which are probably quesadillas, at least as they are made in Mexico, and deep fried. As for flour tortillas, since I've found the whole grain tortillas in the market, I probably won't be making too many of those again, although I might want to experiment with some of the whole grain flours I have. I don't especially like tortillas made with all white flour, and corn tortillas are my favorite. When I first visited Vancouver for a long visit (1978 or so), I was shocked that I could not find fresh corn tortillas in the grocery stores (I did find frozen ones, but did not consider that acceptable). At that time, I practically lived on soft tacos (that I made myself, often with tofu), and so I had to make an adjustment. I think I bought some whole wheat crackers instead. I think I will try to find some Hispanic markets, although there aren't any in my immediate neighborhood. There are some in neighboring Mar Vista (where Scott lives), which is less than 2 miles from here. There are several places to buy fresh tamales, but they don't sell tortillas. Anyway, I think I will keep looking and also get the tortilla press. Lars

I just reorder them from whoever printed them when I got them from the bank. I don't write many checks now either.

My bank used to be free but now charges. I only order 50 at a time, that lasts a couple of years. My bills are paid by auto draft. I write one check a month except for insurance and tax time and an occasional service call.

I got 500 checks free from my bank when I opened my account 4yrs ago, and I still have 481 checks...I do not see me ordering checks any time soon, but if I do I will get them from my bank free.......LOL

checks unlimited, have used various ones but been using them for a few years now. I don't use that many checks since I do most of my payments by bank online.

i still use checks unlimited...order 2 boxes...i stil write checks for bills...know it sounds silly but just do...and i love dupe checks...

Another advantage of being a senior . . . free checks. All routine bills are paid online; I write a few as birthday and Christmas gifts, one a month here at the retirement center for maintenance. That's it I think.

I'll probably never use all the checks I was given the last time I changed banks, about 4 years ago.

I get a box of checks for free from our bank every time I am nearing the bottom of the box. There is an order form in that last packet of checks, and I just take it to the bank. Within a few days, another box of checks arrives in the mail. I pay all of our bills by check. I refuse to do online banking and allow anyone access to our account.

I write very few checks. Pay most everything through my bank online. I usually use Checks Unlimited.

I've used the Sunday paper insert places. Don't have need for a check printer anymore though. I last got them from the bank and will reorder through there if I need more, but I'm sure I won't. My last box cost about $4 for shipping and no charge for printing. Actually I got two boxes for that price since they goofed and started the checks at 1000 rather than 10000 as I ordered so I got the reprint free of course and the bank manager said to keep (and use if I want) the "error" checks. Which I did and will if I need more.

I had to take a look at the last checks written in about the last year. Two to the plumber last September. One to the guy who shoveled for me this past winter and 3 medical bills that weren't set up yet in the electronic payment.

I'll probably have checks left for my estate to use.

I LOVE Colorful Images, they give you so many choices to choose from, carbon copy or not, all different types of formats from regular books to a notebook type thing that has 3-4 checks per page.

I just found some with great graphics that I love and I change it up every once in a while. They also have matching labels, checkbook covers, stationery. etc.

Their prices are so reasonable and I have ordered from them for over 9 years now and have never had a problem with fraud.

Those problems in life!

Quite a few things are free or lower-priced in this rea, but not cheques, in mostplaces ... even credit union was charging. But I think that I got an order of cheques free from one credit union a while ago.

OJ, you slay me!

Checks are free at our credit union--probably because we're old. Some things I have taken out of our checking account and some I put on credit cards just to keep them active. Others, I pay by check.
