If you were in a southern area, I'd guess Louisiana iris!

You might post on the Iris Forum on gardenweb's garden side.

There are a lot of very knowledgeable people over there.

Could it be a Japanese Iris? This is one from my garden.

This one is from a swampy area , I dug it out and put it in my pond.

I bet it's a Louisiana.

& our north central Texas alkaline clay won't grow them.

Looks like a blue flag(Harlequin), Iris versicolor. I have the smaller version in my pond, sent by a friend outside Buffalo NY where they are wild at her native pond. They are probably native in your area as well, Clairdo. They sure are pretty!

Murraysmom's iris is a Siberian. I think Lynn is right...I. versicolor.

I looked at Clairdo's page and she is from Canada, so it wouldn't be a Louisiana or one of the species that make up Louisianas.

If it's growing wild it's more than likely a blue flag iris like you said.
