It's a lovely federal style mahogany desk. But I believe a reproduction....but a 100 year old reproduction. The Paine Furniture company of Boston made very nice, exacting reproductions of furniture of a hundred years earlier. They were making colonial reproductions in the late 19th century. However any example I can find of the label is a brass plate not inlaid wood. I think that your desk probably did have a top part....it likely would have cubby holes and have been about 8 inches deep and about 12 to 14 inches tall. So.... I believe what you have is and antique, antique reproduction!! Linda C

Yes, we are in the same boat with our parents. You will be able to relax more knowing that your mom cannot get out and roam the streets. In one way I feel better knowing that dad is safe but sad that he's lost his independence. It sure does not help when they tell you how bad it is in the home, my dad tells me...IF you knew what went on in here you'd get me out... I just look at him and then try to get him to talk about something else but he is not easy to get subtracted from what he wants to say, not yet anyway. That day will come along with many more of what we're going to go through with our parents. Sadly I'm doing it all alone. Dad is very mad at my son but I believe he's mad that he's not young and able like his grandson so for right now he's venting his anger toward him, plus my son is the type of person that is very carefree and what will be will be where dad was on top pf things taking care of what he could when he could and he think's my son should be the keeper of the two homes, watching guard over everything. I still am fearful that if I take dad out he'll want to go to his house and I cannot take him there cause I know he'll want to go inside and I'd never get him out without having to call the police to take him out and have them take him back to the care center. I have not told him that the doctor told me to take away his cars and right now there's no need to it will just upset him even more to hear his life being taken away from him. Dad asked why his mom and dad didn't have to go into a home like him and I told him that granny was able to take care of grandpa when he had his pacemaker and then my uncle dad's brother took care of granny. Even though my uncle didn't take good care of my granny. He left her alone all day and she wasn't able to get up out of her chair. I once called Adult protective services and they didn't see anything wrong but of course they didn't cause they don't see what is really needed to be seen when it's happening. I felt so helpless in not being able to help my granny, my uncle took over everything had granny's money in his name and the house. Most of the time dad is very calm but he does have moment's when he get's upset. I hope your day goes better then you think and everything will be ok. Barb

Bless you and yours, I know it is a stressful time for you. My DBIL woke my sister up Friday morning about 1 AM sweating and having problems breathing. At the hospital he was stablized and then had a massive coronary attack. He died about 2 AM and he was 41 years old. No high blood pressure or cholesterol. My sister's faith is strong and she is doing much better emotionally than I would have expected her too. I don't know if the sudden deaths are easier than the long illnesses. I have been thru both and both are painful. Rosa

My pain was in my back, below my shoulder blade. The second attack (that preceded the "wait for the first attack to heal so we can remove your gall bladder surgery" and forced the emergent removal of my gall bladder) was in my upper-right abdomen. I was in so much pain I was doubled-over. I was vomiting like it was my job. Apparently, gall bladder/gallstone pain can present in myriad ways. It can also mimic a heart attack. I'd go straight to the ER if you're having this type of pain. Not kidding.
