Rainbow Circled the Sun

While in Cancun, my Cuz Mary took this picture on her Blackberry. The Rainbow formed a perfect circle around the Sun. I was surprised it came out as clear as it did. We could hardly look at it because the Sun was so Bright.

The Locals say it happens once a year as a reminder to them that Hurricane Season is near. But, I don't speak much Spanish. So, something might have gotten lost in the Translation.

Pretty Eerie, huh?

(Tree Form) Pink Drift vs. Rainbow Knock Out???
Q

Now I am agonizing between these two.... As a tree how would Rainbow Knock Out compare to Pink Drift? I know the flower is smaller, but I'm wondering if Pink Drift might have less fading in the sun. Also, would amount of blooms and length of bloom time be as heavy. Are the Drifts constant bloomers like Knock Outs? Thanks for any help!!! I bought the Rainbow Knock Out but I keep reading over and over how it fades in the sun. I even went to one of my local nurseries and was able to find a few there from last year and sure enough... the blooms looked really faded and unattractive. I'm guessing it's a much better rose in parital shade...

peps22, my plant was stuck on purple for at least 6-7 weeks. They then turned multi-colored over a period of 3-4 days. Since taking that picture, they've turned even more colors and are actually kind of rainbow-like now.

"Fabricating shops utilize oil for their machines and stuff and I think some can be transfered to the material (even oil on hands)." - this is possible but HIGHLY unlikely. I am a fabricator and an engineer that worked for a stone machinery manufacturer before starting my shop. Of course stone working machinery has oil and grease in somew locations. However, the basic design of those machines normally precludes any contamination of the product (stone) From comments which include references to hard water and removal by an abrasive pad it sounds to me like surface hard water deposits which are common in my service area. Several times a year we do a service call for a "stain" only to find it's merely hard water residue that is easily removed with steel wool. The other possibility I suspect due to the "rainbow" is an oil or soap stain which can normally be removed with a hydrogen peroxide poultice. my 2 cents

Well, I looked up, "Rainbow Circling the Sun" and found lots of pictures. I guess it can be seen in other places as well.

I guess that is what I saw in So. America, but it was around the moon. I didn't know what to call it, but rainbow fits. Thanks for sharing that.

Awesome!

I guess though that means there really is no end of the rainbow, so there is no pot of gold to be found!

Amazing. Twice in my life I have seen double rainbows, where they "reflect" double.

I've seen that many times, I always call it a sun halo. Not sure what the proper term for it is.

That was a neat picture!

Here is a link that might be useful: See the pot at the end of the rainbow!

Sue, I just googled "Pot at the end of the rainbow"About a year ago I got that one in an email. I laughed so hard!

There are a lot of things going around and around, but some of them are first timmers.

I think all rainbows are special.
