jeanner: Yes, that's my top pond in the fourth pic down. Here are some pics of my water lillies in the top pond. These were taken over the weekend. The most blooms I have ever had open at one time: 9: These were taken at around 9 a.m. before all the lillies opened. These were taken around noon after they all opened. Here is one of the many pond spiders that live at the edge of my pond. I absolutely hate, hate, HATE spiders. I was shaking so bad when I took these pics some of them are blurry. Was trying to get my floating duck and ducklings unstuck with a stick when I hit the web and noticed it. Wonder how they get that web spun from one floating planter to the next without going into the water. This spider is so colorful I couldn't resist. After I took the pics I was shaking so bad I had to go ay down after I hurled. I still get the creeps looking at it. My son can't believe I did this either. What we won't do for our ponds!!!! OMG! I just looked at this picture when I got home and there are three baby birds in it! I did not see them at all when I took the picture! I just seen the egg and nest and thought I would snap a quick picture as I was at work and have to walk by it a lot. Most of the time the daddy and mom don't move sometimes they do and flop on the ground playing like they are hurt. The killdeer made a nest right on a sun someone made out of white rocks right by a busy sidewalk and road. It's a odd spot I hope the family lives! cats are always around. I made fun of the parents I guess they knew what they were doing after all, pretty good camoflauge huh?

I have a half acre, all that's left of the original 300 acre farm. I'm surrounded by 1950's raised ranches. We have 2 indoor cats, 9 of 10 koi, and a German Shepherd that thinks the cats are rabbits in the house. Poor kitties live in fear, but he's such a great dog otherwise, I just work around it. We have a few rabbits and squirrels outside, and I've seen an occasional possom and raccoon. The dog tends to keep them all at a distance. Ideally, we'd have at least 2 acres, maybe up to 10 or 20, and I'd get the dog a playmate. My daughter would love to have horses, but she really doesn't understand the work they require. Two acres would give us room for the dog to run, more room for a pool and a basketball court and gardens. Always ;-) Hunzi

There is nothing wrong with taking care of an animal that couldn't reasoably be expected to thrive if returned to his/her native environment. Knowledge and preparation are the key. I have 5 Burmese Pythons living in their own large upstairs bedroom. They all came to me as rescues. Three have been with me since 1984. They have their own heating system, plywood sheathed walls, expanded metal gratings on the outside of their windows. Cleaning their room and watering trough are onerous duties that have to be performed weekly. Feeding and electricity to keep them warm are expensive. All things considered, it is an expensive hobby that I love. They have individual personalities, much like cats. Let me add this: we have a responsibility to assure a good life to our pets if we suddenly leave the picture. I have it in my Will; my executrix and my kids all know that I have 2 different individuals lined up to come in and whisk these "special" animals away in the case of my sudden demise.
