La iris traded without any eyelets or fans...will it survive?
Comments (1)Missa, About the only thing you can do with a Louisiana rhizome that has had both ends cut off is to make some small cuts or slices where the grooves are on the side of the rhizome, about 3 on each side. It should grow new plants from where the cuts are. Don't know why someone would send something like this, they must have keep the fan for themselves. Randy...See MoreDo you think they will survive?
Comments (7)What you describe could be deer but I've noticed that rabbits will examine new plantings then leave the hosta alone. I reason that the rabbits notice something new in their house and want to know what it is. Absent deer tracks I wouldn't assume deer. They will come back just fine unless some other problem comes along but don't worry about this. Should not have mentioned "other problem" because you can't control everything that happens and fear won't help....See MoreCould I survive without using the can lights?
Comments (6)"At some point in the design process you must decide if history means more to you than a well functioning work space." Indeed. My first four houses had that kind of surface mount lighting. And yes, it provides even, low level of lighting which can at times be adequate. But having the cabinet tops equally lit with the floors does not help when cooking or dining. Spots in combination with under counter lighting direct more light where it counts and is a far more useful lighting design. A few of us on this forum believe that millions of home owners blindly follow the dictates found in home design magazines and install spots without thinking through the consequences. Such an attitude is elitist at best and likely leads some home renovators to make the wrong decision....See MoreEver hang a Japanese folding screen? How'd you do it?
Comments (5)Thanks Gail. Mine doesn't have a good surface to stick the command strips to--the frame is too skinny and the backing is old fabric. What little information I can find on the internet suggests that the older ones aren't supposed to be hung flat because it can cause the hinges to bend and the front to tear or something. Just enough info to make me paranoid! Sounds like yours is supported all around so it won't have that issue. I'm thinking more and more that I'd like to put it behind the piano, which puts it very close to a grubby little kid and a pointy piano lamp. Is an extra large acrylic box terrible? It's a really shallow piano and I can't put anything unprotected behind it....See Moremamalynn
