Ok, YIKES, this is getting crazy trying to figure out what this is! I was sure it was Jens Munk after seeing the pictures but after doing a lot of reading about it I can almost be positive it is not. Then I thought that it may be Theresa Bugnet (sp?) as suggested in another one of my posts and I can almost be sure it isn't that either. The reason that I say this is because both say they are continual bloomers and produce bright orange hips in the fall but mine does neither. It blooms once and blooms much better in the cooler summers, like the one we are having,and with any luck will give me a few more blooms in the fall. But I can assure you that it does not repeat bloom well in the fall. I don't believe that I have ever seen a single hip produced off of it either. I can tell you that it does not get blackspot and very rarely do I see any mildew on it either. It is rarely ever bothered by insects except those nasty japanese beetles love to eat the buds. But even those have not made it out in time to eat my lovely roses this year Woohooo! I am still searching to give these wonderful roses a name but they do greatly favor the flower of Jens Munk and Theresa Bugnet. Thanks again and God bless!

gorbelly Yep, they're my grandfather's plants from that other thread. Who would've thought that that sickly seedling on the brink of death would have gone on to become a thriving (regardless of its current issues) monster in the making. Maybe 'thriving' is a relative term in this case, but it's certainly come quite a long way. I've found a space outside where I can grow maybe 2. My friend doesn't know if she'll be staying where she currently lives or if she'll be moving, but she expressed a willingness to take some plants if she ends up staying. The openness of the immediate vicinity around your release point is always an important consideration, as well as whether there are nearby natural areas. I assumed you got Ladybird larvae, they won't disappear on you too quickly, but the adults are too mobile to put a lot of reliance on. As Rhizo mentions, if the adults move in on their own they'll hang around. But if dropped out of a container they're more likely to try and put distance between themselves and their confinement. And more so if the temperatures in your conservatory are above the normal for the environment they come from. It's a bit of a novel idea but you can use a vacuum cleaner to remove Whitefly. As long as you can adjust the suction power it can be done without damaging the plants. Put the dust bag in a plastic bag in the freezer before emptying it out. Well, vacuum cleaners aren't exactly natural, but same effect though.

Yup, looks like the finish pulled up stain from those areas and redistributed it on the edges. Likely cause was failure to remove previous stain/finish completely. Oil based stains will not adhere to previous stains/finishes, needing bare wood for proper adhesion. Fix is now to sand to bare wood. Since drum sanders require a lot of experience, the better DIY choice is to rent a USand machine. It takes longer than a drum sander, but is very difficult to make a sanding error. Then, restain and finish, making sure the stain and finish are compatible. Also, make sure to wipe off the extra stain before finishing, since oil based stains usually leave a film.
