Absolute Black granite: absolutely befuddling me
Comments (9)AB...I think if you use an enhancer on honed AB the fingerprint issue goes away. As to sealing vs not sealing it, I suggest you get a sample of it unsealed and test it...if water sits on top of it and sort of beads up (i.e., isn't absorbed) then it probably does not need to be sealed. Kevin (AZStoneConsulting) has said that he's found some ABs that do need sealing...but not all do. To me, anyone who makes a blanket statement that all AB must be sealed either doesn't really know what they're talking about or are lying... (probably the former). There are a lot of people out there that think all stones have to be sealed and that's not the case. [I admit it, I was one of those who thought all granites had to be sealed...b/f I started actually learning about it. Later, I was pleasantly surprised when my KD mentioned in passing that while most of their granites are sealed, my AB would not be b/c it didn't need it...I already knew that, but it was nice to hear it from her! I did take home a sample to be sure my stone was not dyed and did the other tests while I was at it...it passed all tests with flying colors!] Here is a link that might be useful: Thread: Stone Information and Advice (& Checklists)...See MoreIf I hone my absolute black granite will it still be black?
Comments (6)If you're having problems "with ring marks and other stuff coming through", are you sure you have true AB and not a dyed/doctored stone made to look like AB? I would test it b/f you do anything else. If you hone it and it's dyed/doctored, I don't know what you'll end up with. Have you checked to see if a sealer was inappropriately applied? If so, it can cause all kinds of problems b/c it's sitting on the surface and was never absorbed like it's supposed to be. If so, you need to remove the sealer...then see how things are. True AB should be impervious to rings, etc. I think you should first test your granite b/f you do anything else. You don't want to make things worse. (I also have AB polished and have no problems with rings, etc.) Here is a link that might be useful: Thread: Stone Information and Advice (& Checklists)...See MoreDoes black absolute always show fingerprints?
Comments (3)i have AB and love it. it does show fingerprints. it has a mirror image finish. i do wipe my counters when they are dirty or right after they have been used. I never let anything sit for any amount of time. I only have the AB on my island. I don't have a problem with wiping it and then using a dry towel to keep water marks or streaks off. this may be problem for some people. i do not have young children, but i do have a very messy husband and a big football player son 17 years old. they don't cut me much slack in my kitchen. i often go in behind them cleaning up whatever they mess up....See MoreAbsolute Black - getting grey rings?! Comments (2)Stim141...I need your help. How did you locate this product, did you apply it yourself? New black honed granite and I have a ring:( Fabricator used some granite dust to fix a scratch on the install and it left a haze in an area the size of a small plate. I set a glass there and now have a ring. I think the dust is stuck in the sealer causing a haze and now a ring in that sealer. Fabricator tried a poultice with no luck....See MoreBuehl
