If you can afford to pay double for the 2 x 8's I think you should go for it. I liked the pic someone posted in your previous thread that showed the tile behind the range staying at wall cabinet height till it gets to the hood then ending at the hood bottom (I know that doesn't sound at all clear, but you probably remember the picture and know what I'm talking about...I hope).

I absolutely LOVE the floors. We came very close to using cork plank but I chickened out in the end. Glad to see you were braver than me because they look fabulous.

I would either stop the tiles at the bottom of the range hood or go all the way to the ceiling--I am not sure how it would intersect the middle of the range hood if you stopped at the top of the cabinets.

I'd agree with Cheri, if you can afford it, the 2x8s will stand out as a really unique feature. otherwise, the 3x6 subways will look gorgeous in their own simplicity. I think I might lean towards continuing the tile all the way up to the top of the cabs.

Your floors are Gorgeous! You really did a fantastic job! My vote is for the 2x8's going to the bottom of the hood.

I'm with palimpsest. I'd go all the way to the ceiling. I think that would be really striking - the way you photographed the room, with the island, the chandelier, and the range/hood all in a line, I'd like to see the tile all the way up to make a beautiful subtle statement.

Here's to cork flooring! Yours has a lovely rich look, too. I think that tile to the ceiling would be really bold and dramatic. You can't miss either way, though.

love it. i would do the 2x8s and bring them up to the BOTTOM of the hood -right when they hit. top it off with a chair rail. the hood provides a strong horizontal creating a natural end point. going up any further leaves unnatural open space. it's looking fabulous!

I have drawn out the 2x8 tiles on some long sheets of paper and "tiled". I think I am leaning towards ending at the bottom of the hood. The "tiles" look nice, as long as they don't fall down and catch on fire...

onelady, yes I did paint--not such a good job around the hood though--didn't cut in there (thought I was tiling!), the paint is BM, but the colors are from Lowe's. The color that is behind the stove,backsplash, above cabinets, and most everywhere is called Coastal Villa (6005-2A), we also used the darkest color on the swatch, Italian Leather (6005-2C) on a wall that is in the family room side opposite the stove. The colors are taupe. The dark one is very dark, my dining room is partially chocolate brown so I like that they are somewhat tied together. I think the sun in that photo really makes the color very light, it is darker--like what you see above the cabinets. Here is a crazy picture of the family room side of the project, the white fireplace is covered in black plastic, and you can see where the coastal villa was cut in, but the dark color is on that far wall... (wow--it looks so different without the carpet!)

Looks great -- I'd love to see a closer shot if you have one. Saw a cork floor in person for the first time the other day and LOVED it -- couldn't believe how smooth it was.

scootermom, it looks like it would be rough, but it is smooth. Here are 2 close up shots --only have my camera on my phone, and one picture of the back of the board. The colors look different in the two pictures, the actual color is like the big picture at the top, dark brown/reddish. The orange looking one is with spot lights on it that were used for the installation.

Oh wow, I LOVE the cork flooring! I also vote for ending at the hood, and I really like the 2x8s. But how much is double, and how's your budget doing?

Wow, thanks for the pictures! The floor looks great - I admit I've never really been a fan of the look of cork floors but I'd never seen it in planks before either; they're really nice!

I've never been a fan of cork floors either, but I swear those look like wood floors to me. Just curious, how does the price compare to wood? I'm guessing it would be quite a bit cheaper, right?

The floors are great! Must be so comfy to walk on, and it looks like wood to me. My guess is that's it's more expensive than wood, so you'll have to let us know who is right! : )

Hi everybody, first let me express my joy that the forum is back! Yipee.

The cost of the cork is quite variable. The local store I first saw it in normally sells it for $11 sq foot, but it was "on sale for $8 sq/ft", still too high. Found it online for around $6, but then when I had to order more due to the project expanding, I found it from the same dealer online for around $5 sq foot.

I know there are different cork flooring styles out there, but I really liked this one. Some cork floors have a weird feel to them--kind of squeaky feel for lack of a better term. Even with socks on they bothered me (weird I know, must be a sensory issue). But this floor is smooth and I just loved the look. When I was thinking about what to do, I didn't want tile (too hard), and then there was the issue with the matching of hardwood to the foyer. This just solves all the problems because despite that fact that it looks like wood, it looks different since the planks are about 7.5" wide.

Your floor looks great! We have considered cork floors, but are leary because of our two dogs who love to chase each other around the house. Although, they are small dogs and not too heavy, I would think they may damage a soft floor like cork.

As for the backsplash, I vote to end the tile even with the top of cabinets.

Thank you for posting those extra pics! I really love it. The stain you chose and the plank style and placement give the floor a more wood-like look...very warm and soothing. I can just imagine how it feels! Is it glued down, or floating?

scootermom--it is floating, and I feel like I'm floating on it when I walk, even with the broken foot!

shellsmom-we have 2 cockapoos. The oldest (17 yrs) is a little confused--she isn't really able to tell the difference between my floor and the bottom shelf of furniture now--found her standing on the lower part of my end table, and then deciding to lie down. Poor thing, she needs a rug or something. Regarding the strength of this stuff, my husband said that he is very surprised how tough this stuff is (in regards to cutting it during the installation).

We absolutely love it and we are starting to move some furniture back in the room. I'm putting lots of the floor protectors on the legs of different pieces of furniture.

I wanted cork floors when I did the kitchen 8 years ago, but put down tile. I hated it then and really hate it now.
