Hm... I can't figure out where your colors are on your link. But, yes! You're right that whites don't always go together. When I had my interior painted I had to mix my own white.

Navajo white has a brown undertone. Is there other trim besides the doors that will be Navajo? Like baseboards, window frames, etc.? If not, if it's absolutely just the ceiling and doors, you can probably use any warm to yellow white for the cabinets. That is, if they don't go all the way to the ceiling. Shadow and distance should make up the difference.

Not having seen it, the toasted almond glaze is both brownish (goes with Navajo) and probably enough off of white to register as a different color in the same family, rather than a mismatch. Pearls tend to look yellowish or pinkish, either of which might work, but make sure you like the way the light reflects off it in your large space.

Can you get small cans of the paint, and paint up a scrap of drywall and a scrap of trim and take them to look at the cabinet store? Or borrow door samples to bring home? The very best way is to audition them.

The other thing you can do is adjust the paint to match the cabinets. For instance, you can take in one of your doors or drawers and get a computer match to the actual color, then stir in about one part to twelve of Hawthorne Yellow, so that the ceiling/door white will have tones of both the cabinets and the walls. Having said that, I realize that my prejudice would be not to have the cabinets and paint match exactly. Because they're different materials they're going to look different anyway.

well Diamond has the same colors as kemper and I've looked ad nauseum at those colors.

the toasted almond is very brown and it makes the cabinets look very off white. The amaretto creme is much less so (even though you didn't list that). The white is very white (look at the thread from yesterday called "help me pick an island" - she's got white kemper) and the pearl is VERY grey.

Pearl was my first choice until I got it home and looked at it with all my other things in the house which are all sort of off whitey and the pearl looked disgusting.

Can you get samples of the wood finishes to take home and look at in your own house. It's the only way to be sure. Also remember that glazes always up the price, so why use them unless you absolutely love the look.

actually its funny - at least with kemper, the white paint was more than the glaze. I have no idea why.

Oh wow thanks for all the info. That is what I was told also that the paint was more than the glaze on the Diamond cabinets. Which one did you pick Buffetgirl?

I went with amaretto creme on Northrope doors - in the Diamond Brand it would be the Sumner doors. That doesn't even come in pearl - origially we were getting Whitman which is the same as Montgomery, in pearl and the more I looked at my sample the more and more I hated it lol.

buffettgirl, your post cracks me up. I went with the Whitman as well in the beginning and then the more I looked at it, the more I hated it. I am happy with Northrop.

I have Diamond/Omega maple cabinets with the Pearl finish. I was going to go with the straight white offering and my KD discouraged me from doing that. She said the white was pretty stark and looked like a thermafoil finish, IHO.

Like you, I was concerned about clashing with other whites. My kitchen is open to the dining and living areas, which I wanted to paint a cohesive warm white shade (I chose SW "Creamy".) Add to that, my trim is white (SW "Snowbound".)

I'm really happy with the Pearl finish on my cabinets. There is a slight contrast with the walls, and they don't look dingy against the white trim, which is what I most feared. In the lighting in our home, I don't read grey in mine - it just seems to be a richer, creamier white.

Don't know if that helps with regard to your choices. It just reinforces the advice given above that you probably should get some samples in your home and check them out in your own lighting.

I am leaning towards the amaretto creme finish in the maple genevieve (Kemper Pembrook Maple). I originally picked arched cabinets to mirror the arches in our interior doors but I don't like the look of it with a glaze only the paints. Dh is unsure of the white and especially a white with glaze. Is anyone sorry they did their white cabinets? I may just call it a day and pick a stain even though I love the look of white cabinets.

I am picking up samples tomorrow, they are so small though and I am not sure what it is going to tell me in a rough framed house. At least I can try to get a read of it in the natural light. Silly me I thought once I committed to white it was done.

I have a sample pembroke door here because I really liked that one and my KD had an extra. IN the end we decided all the roping was just a little too much. So we went with the simpler northrop.

But here are two pictures of it next to my nearly white existing painted cabinets. Its hard to tell in the light...
but I took these in natural light. The pembroke picks up more glazing because of all the edges, but none of the Diamond/kemper seem to have a ton of glazing on the flat surfaces, which lets more white come through.

Buffetgirl thank you for the pictures. Dh doesn't like the roping. Actually he isn't crazy about the glaze at all, until I told him it was the cheaper option. Then he told me as he was leaving the decision is up to me but he still prefers stained arched doors. Thanks honey.

I just don't know how a glaze is going to look next to the mini travertine backsplash we already picked. I want a very subtle glaze on the doors? I want the cabinets to melt into the decor so to speak. Accent it but not be the focal point. We have so much going on in that room already since it is the main living area great room. On top of that I already picked chocolate oak doors for the u-shaped island in the other part of the kitchen to pick up the darkness of the exterior doors.

I am incpable of making this decision at the moment. Which door style and color does everyone prefer to compliment the island?

The glaze is really not very much - not like some companies I've seen where the doors are NOTICEABLY glazed. these are much more subtle and it really only shows around the edges.

Glaze question, I noticed on the Pembroke picture the glaze picking up the construction on the doors (diagonal lines out through the corners) is that as noticable on the Northrop?

it doesn't look it to me.
