Assembling IKEA Storjorm cabinet with light?
Comments (10)There is an issue with their wires the stress of hr flex causes them to break - I just repaired mine with a short length of wire which I then wrapped with electrical tape. It’s a really easy fix and is nothing more thtan a broken wire but shame on IKEA for not offering replacement parts. I attached a photo to show the area of the break and the repair before wrapping it for insulation. If you doninstall make make sure you leave enough slack to allow the open and close of the door. IMHO if the wire ran behind he light rather than in front it could have been made to handle the stress. In my case that white wire snapped - note before it snapped it would flicker on and off depending on door position. Complete break took a small wire and connected both ends - note if you needed I think you could take off the light and wire and resolder inside but this way it will have plenty of slack now...See MoreCost of assembly for Ikea cabinets?
Comments (27)Feeling a bit frustrated. I went to IKEA to get some ideas for my workspace. I am converting two rooms in my house for an art studio. I was willing to pay them for concept drawings and installation and was told "We can install kitchen cabinets but no installation in any other type of room. If it doesn't have a sink and stove, we can't install it for you due to liability issues." Really? I would think there are more liability issues when there is a sink and stove. Just wanted someone to install what we purchased - willing to pay for installation. Disability limits what I can physically do and installation is definitely out of the question. Have others had the same issues with installation?...See MoreNon-IKEA apron sink for IKEA cabinet? Advice and/or info please!
Comments (22)I'm just going to say this in case - the wide Domsjö is two bowl sink. It never came any other way. Sektion has standard sized drawer fronts. Buy an extra 36" wide taller drawer front just in case you need it - you can always send it back. Sektion and Akrum cabinets had different sizes of drawer fronts. Stop by the kitchen area and ask about issues with installing the Domsjö sink in a Sektion cabinet. The Domsjö should come with replacement metal bar for the front & bar edges. The front metal bar takes the place of the top bar on the front and the back. You might need to cut down the back panel to fit under the bar. We did a simple reinforcement of the cabinet by adding plywood across the back on the inside of the cabinet under the bar and then attached the official cabinet back to the ply. Given a choice, I would buy ANY other white farmhouse sink and undermount kit. Eventho it's hundreds more. In our case, the sink wasn't quite deep enough - there was a wide gap between the sink and the wall in the back that was plugged with two tons of caulk. In the end, I named the sink the Rain of Terror because it dripped water everywhere and rotted the Ikea wood counter. If you use someone else's sink in an ikea cabinet, know that you may need to cut the cabinet top back as shown in @sh's photo because a 36" wide undermount sink is 36" wide at the front or near to it. The sink maker has an undermount kit (usually) that amounts to metal bars with screws under the sink. The bars stretch across the cabinet from side to side. Then, use your "extra" drawer front and carefully cut it to fit the front....See MoreWorkspace to assemble ikea kitchen cabinets
Comments (9)The sale is on now, but our kitchen isnt getting taken apart and a wall taken down until beginning of September and we are going away for two weeks so I need to order asap so we will have a lot of boxes on our livingroom for a month or so. I also have 3 kids who probably wont be able to resist touching hahaha. I'd love to power through but I dont know if our free time will allow for that. Although the idea of assembling as needed sounds good. We hired someone to do all the big stuff we cant do (demo, electrical, and basically getting the room ready to install) and then we were going to assemble and install, so that could be possible....See MoreGauchoGordo1993
