Now THAT'S the definition of good customer service!
Comments (7)I didn't post on your other thread because I'm still upset about being verbally abused by a United agent in Chicago (after being shown extraordinary customer service by 100% of the Lufthansa employees we encountered on our journey). I was actually reduced to tears by the horrific and unreasonable "service" United gave me. Incompetence + bitter sarcasm = not a winning combination. However, I have received some very memorable customer service in the past several months: A few months ago, I managed to destroy the glazing on my Calphalon 8-qt oval enameled Dutch oven (chive green, in case you were curious). I braised something tomato-ey in it and filled the base with soapy water to soak, and inverted the lid in the base and filled it with soapy water. Problem is, the enamel is sprayed on (as opposed to "dipped") so the underside of the handle is uncoated, so by soaking it, water got underneath the handle and all the enamel chipped off the handle, rendering my beautiful pot significantly less so. I called Calphalon. Without hesitating, and at no cost to me, they sent me a postage paid label to ship the damaged pot to them, and sent me a beautiful new replacement at no cost to me and with a truly gracious attitude. I love Calphalon. Also, we had a knife set we bought from Cabela's a couple years ago (a little more than a year at the time I called them) and I managed to throw away or somehow lose the paring knife. I called Cabela's (from whom we buy a LOT of stuff throughout the course of the year), and they were able to establish when we bought the set by looking up a credit card transaction in one of their stores from the prior year. I had hoped to be able to buy a replacement knife from one of their returned sets. Instead, they mailed me a new paring knife at no cost, and thanked us for our business. Doing business with companies like these is an absolute pleasure....See MoreWhat kind of warranty do your custom cabinets have?
Comments (9)Resurrecting an old 9-year old question. I am a kitchen & bath designer/ dealer/ cabinet shop owner. I represent a few manufacturers lines and build here too. Here’s my $0.02 regarding warranties … especially with regard to custom shops. Cabinet warranties are … honestly … ‘feel good’ things. Don’t think of them the same as automobiles, that have many systems and moving parts … they are not. Even on cabinets that offer a “Lifetime Warranty” … it’s typically a “Limited Lifetime Warranty”. If the drawer slides fail … the warranty isn’t lifetime, but rather that offered by the drawer slide manufacturer (hinges and other accessories are the same). Other disclaimers on “Limited Lifetime Warranties” are subject to “use”. If you abuse it -- you'll have a warranty issue. Clean it with the wrong product which breaks down the finish -- you'll have a warranty issue. Hostile environment … well, you get the idea. In reality … what does go wrong? Well, plywood generally doesn’t simply delaminate … unless you purchased some poorly made imports where the plywood can and does delaminate. Well-made drawer boxes generally don’t fail either. So when your child uses a drawer box as a step stool or ladder -- that's not a warranted thing, nor is the door someone hung on or hyperextended, causing it to split on the hinge side of the door at the stile and rails. Point being … the things that do fail on kitchens will likely fail after the warranty for that item expires or for something that wasn't warrantied in the first place (again ... “abuse”). Kinda like driving your car into a brick wall or running the engine without oil and asking the dealer if the “issue” is warrantied. I think limited lifetime, under normal use, is reasonable for custom cabinetry. Being, the limited lifetime of the custom cabinetmaker … and/or the original purchaser (and not transferable). One added thought. If you do purchase from a custom cabinet shop, they might (and perhaps will) help you when your child does something beyond the design and warranty criteria of your cabinetry -- I know I have....See MoreSemi custom cabinets - for what items should I shop around
Comments (2)Rev-a-shelf inserts can often be much cheaper when purchased separately. If you're planning on any glass fronted cabs, oftentimes it's cheaper to order the cab glass ready and then get the glass from a local shop. Soft close for cabinet hinges can be retrofitted easily, but you should order the drawers with soft close because I'm pretty sure the soft close feature is integral to the drawer glide. Most importantly get several quotes on your cabs, even if you're sure of the brand. Separate distributers can have big price discrepancies....See MoreWhat is your definition of eclectic decorating?
Comments (55)I, too, think that Lascatx's definition sounds right. My living room is very eclectic, in my opinion. No, actually, in pretty much anyone's opinion (LOL)! A Contemporary adobe hacienda with exposed, painted adobe walls, brick floors, wood ceiling, beams and hand-carved corbels = Southwestern. Add in cream colored linen sofas. From there it gets a bit mixed. My two large-ish rugs are Persian. My coffee table is an antique from India. One end table is an antique from Great Britain. An antique family heirloom lamp from France. An inlaid game table from Syria along with two hand-carved antique chairs from New Mexico stand in one corner of the room. On it is my precious (to me) antique Japanese Kintaro statue (boy riding a carp). A brass deer statue from India or Thailand sits on the fireplace hearth. The box that holds wood for the fireplace is an antique ammunitions box from Oklahoma. Most of our paintings, pottery and statues are from New Mexico . . . except for a painting from India on silk with the paint made from (I swear) ground precious and semi-precious jewels (it was a gift from an Indian colleague of my husband's). Another wall has a bookcase and framed photos of DH's ancestors who ranged from Oklahoma farmers to a famous Chickasaw leader and statesman. Oh, and a handmade wooden vase holding two carved walking sticks from Africa stands next to the fireplace in one of the pics. Yes, I'd say my living room is a bit eclectic. (LOL) To most visitors, the room looks fine. But, I truly don't care. To me, to us, it looks great and that's what ultimately counts....See Moreirishcreamgirl
